Me, eating Apple slices with my rats in the dark: were a lot alike you and i. We eat we sleep we live trapped in our comfort zones never doing anything more than the usual. Your cage is physical you have an excuse but me? What stops me from getting up and leaving all that I know? Nothing but social obligation. But you seem satisfied in your space, to climb your walls and rest and shit and eat. Perhaps there is wisdom in that.

i’ve said it before i’ll say it again there’s a difference between lady gaga singing born this way in 2011 and taylor swift singing “shade never made anyone less gay” (whatever the fuck that means) to profit off of it in 2019
The difference is that Lady Gaga is bisexual and Taylor Swift is straight
Honestly, even if Taylor came out as gay or bi tomorrow, “You Need To Calm Down” would still be tacky because of tone an content.
Born This Way was, unequivocally, “You are beautiful for being YOU in a world that often tells you you’re not” while “You Need To Calm Down” is basically “Me, and The Gays™, have haters”.
Gaga was singing about celebrating herself with Born This Way. Taylor Swift comes off as comparing homophobia as equivocable the beef she had with Katy Perry.
I feel a better comparison from the early 10s is Same Love by Macklemore. While yeah, the song is clumsy and hokey, at least “I received a lot of misdirected homophobia growing up and I can only imagine how much worse it is for gay folks” is more tasteful than “homophobia is just like when critics say my songs aren’t good or I get snake emoji replies on Twitter.”
Even if she has the best intentions, the final product comes off as, well, tone deaf and a little exploitative.
Why is this cat judging me so hard she and I are both perfect

Let’s say your matrilineal line is fairly consistent and everyone has their daughter at 25. So four women in your matrilineal line are born every hundred years. In a thousand years, that’s only 40 women. Like the math is so simple and yet ? You don’t think about it. So in 2000 years, 80 women. So basically, 0 AD started roughly about 80 mothers ago. That’s it.
I’m……… i’m a little drunk n cannot deal with this right now
Yep
The advent of agriculture around 9500BC was about 450 mothers ago
you can’t just say shit like that without a warning
Many, many mothers ago, when the world was new….
Many of the notes here are saying “But women used to have kids earlier”
Okay. So, assume every woman had her daughter at 20 instead.
That’s five mothers in a century.
Fifty mothers in a thousand years.
One hundred mothers in two thousand years.
That is five hundred and seventy five mothers since the dawn of agriculture.
Less than six hundred women, between you and the dawn of civilization.
You are never so far from your ancestors as you think.
Okay but “x mothers ago” is the best damn dating system, and I’m gonna use it SOMEWHERE.

Just a reminder that Vincent van Gogh did not eat yellow paint to make himself feel happy, he ate paint, and drank different chemicals because he was suicidal and this is why he was not allowed in his studio while having breakdowns. He also did not paint starry night and his other great works because he was depressed, he painted most of them while he was in recovery and demonstrated his hopefulness and love of the world through this. Most of his great works were painted from his room at a hospital. Van Gogh’s depression should not be glorified. His hope and effort toward a better life, as well as his recovery from depression should be glorified.
If I may add, he did not cut off his own ear, he went into a manic depressive state and got into a fight with a friend who cut off part of his ear by accident. It’s unsure if he actually did commit suicide (he was shot in the stomach, and he was seen getting into a fight with some boys earlier that day), but nonetheless, he lived a sad and painful life, not one to admire. He only sold one piece when he was alive, his mother destroyed every painting of his that she had and constantly reminded him he couldn’t replace his older brother Vincent, a baby who died a year before our Vincent came to the world. He admitted himself into asylums on multiple occasions. He traded paintings people considered garbage just for a sandwich or a single beer, paintings that are now worth millions were once traded for a goddamn sandwich. He was disrespected, called weird and insane. He would have had painted 6-7 paintings a week when he was feeling good before going into depressive states and not painting for weeks or even months. He worked hard, trying to get better. His pain shouldn’t be glorified, but his recovery, his desire to keep going should.

So, there’s a lot of discourse about whether people should donate to Notre Dame fundraisers or not.
Personally, I would never tell anyone what to, or not to, give money to, but I wanted to put out some facts which might help people make their decision.
The biggest one is The Catholic Church does not own Notre Dame.
You heard that right.
Notre Dame does not, in any way, legally “belong” to the church. Like many French medieval churches, Notre Dame belongs to the people of France. Who graciously permit the Catholic church to use it as a place of worship.
The financial responsibility for repairing and restoring the church thus falls to the government of France. Not the church. The state. The building was not insured, which is fairly common for government-owned buildings. The Federal government tends to self-insure a lot too. Also, no insurer will cover it.
The construction companies working on the restoration may be found responsible, but their liability insurance will be a drop in the water.
So.
If not enough money is donated, then the balance of the cost will come out of the French treasury.
The tl;dr - the people actually on hook for repairing Notre Dame, ultimately, are the French taxpayers. If you donate to help repair Notre Dame, you’re really donating to arts and culture and history funding in France in general.
Make your decision based off of that. The fact is, the church will be rebuilt regardless of how much money comes in in donations, but other parts of the French arts budget may suffer as a result.
Choose based off of your personal priorities. And don’t let anyone on the internet guilt trip you one way or the other.
However if you do decide to donate, please, please send your money to the Friends of Notre Dame. This is the organization that pays for most of Notre Dame’s repair budget. They are registered as a 501c3 in the United States.
Do not donate to random GoFundMes. Some of them will be scams.
If you would rather donate to the black congregations in Louisiana, who admittedly probably do need the money more, this GoFundMe appears to be legitimate and is hosted by a religious non-profit. They’re about 60% from their goal.
