Just like with Strahd, I gave Sergei a few subtle Ukrainian-inspired details. The surname Zarovich has always sounded very Ukrainian to me, so I wanted to reflect that in his design ☺️

re: the unhoused's need for water post I just reblogged

i don't like talking about this too much just because of the risk of being too visible but I'm part of a group that does homeless outreach, going to different encampments to pass out supplies.

i won't lie, it's been brutal as of late with ICE meaning increased police presence. this has meant the destruction of encampments during the heatwave, with the increased need for certain supplies both because of the weather and an uptick in homelessness in the area in general. i'm trying to clear making an amazon wishlist with other members, but we need

WATER. this is the number one thing, we've had people reject all the other stuff we give in the packs and just take water.

clothes for the hot day and cool nights

bug spray (the real fucking stuff, there are ticks where we are)

sunscreen

aloe vera for burns

electrolytes for hydration

high-energy snacks/treats

we also have a consistent need for:

blankets

sleeping bags

tents

shoes, any and all size

canned goods with poptops

I'd like to raise a bit of money on here, I'm happy to post receipts once we reach a certain point of what is bought. I want to get a bunch of water cases from walmart first though so that we are stocked up on water throughout the rest of the brutal summer and can give multiple out at a time. so the initial goal is 40, but I'd ideally like to keep the push for donations going until the end of july

We still need more electrolyte packs though. They come in packs of 12, and with the funds, I was able to snag two boxes. We'll see during outreach day what the actual demand for them is, but I predict it will be high.

What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?

It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.

My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
