I had visits over so this is as far as I got today. Changed his eye color at some point and thought oh that looks nice but doesn't someone already have that eye color? And it was Eiden, so I changed it back (I was like "oh no <3")
i wanted to draw smth nice for him before i posted him but whateverrr hes going out into the world
his name is nanasei (7 stars, that i aped from kyua and yakumo's names bc i couldn't figure out rhyme or reason for how they name characters in this game lmao. kyua is 9 nights and yakumo is 8 clouds)
he's half human, half fish youkai (specifically a mandarin dragonet, i wanted to add more of this fish's design into his but the base designs of characters are not very fancy, to make the ssrs stand out more im sure, so i settled for using the colors)
his father was a full fish youkai and his mother was a human from the water territory, they were very young and very in love and made a few rash decisions that led to nanasei's birth, and his mother's death soon afterwards due to complications. his father was too grief stricken to go on, and left nanasei with his own family, trusting they would accept him as one of their own, before taking his own life
his youkai family didn't know what to do with him. he could barely swim compared to them, couldn't breathe under water, they always had to make so many accommodations and concessions for him to keep up. the adults didn't bother hiding their annoyance, and influenced by this, his older cousins relentlessly teased him for his short comings. a particular incident almost killed nanasei as his cousins were trying to force him to learn how to hold his breath longer, and he almost drowned.
his aunts and uncles always told him that they only do this because he's weak, and if he wants to survive he has to get stronger, because what if one day no one is there to protect him? he's still their family, and they'll do what they must, but it's important for him to know how to take care of himself too. his cousins will respect him more if he gets stronger and stands up for himself.
so he did, and severely injured the cousin that nearly killed him. maybe that was the last straw, or they were always looking for an excuse to get rid of him, but it was decided that nanasei didn't belong with them. still, they wouldn't leave him out on his own, he was still so young, and for better or for worse connected to his father who they loved, so they sought out his human family in the water territory and unceremoniously dumped him on their doorstep, your problem now
nanasei naively thought that things would be different this time, maybe they were right and he just didn't fit in with youkai, but if thats the case, his true place must be with humans then. but it was the same story here. his human family were afraid of him: he was weirdly strong, and acted oddly, when he got angry he was terrifying, and most of all, he killed their sister and daughter. the fear and resentment was too strong to accept him. he was commonly locked up in his room, given plenty of books and food and toys, because they were taking care of him, he just clearly couldn't control himself, and the confinement was as much for his safety as theirs, because something is wrong with him, and this is for the best
he was allowed to leave occasionally, usually to accompany them for prayer at the temple, under extremely close scrutiny to make sure he didn't cause any problems. on one of these occasions when they came back home, he got into a fight with his cousin. nothing more than normal bickering between kids, but something he said made nanasei so angry, angry at everything, and he just wanted to hurt something, anything to make him feel better. but seeing his cousin and his parents cowering from him, trying so hard to protect their son, seeing how afraid nanasei made them, he fled from the house
he wandered for a long time, ending up in the forest, half dead, where a BIIIG OLD CAT YOUKAI found him. she would go on to be basically the single good thing that happened to him in his life. she used to be a blacksmith, a long time ago, and passed that on to him, as well as everything else he might need to survive. he wanted nothing more than to stay with her, because even if she was a crotchety old lady with a short temper, she was so kind to him, but it seemed weirdly like she was rushing to make sure he had everything he needed to live on his own.
she was dying and was hiding it from him- how? man idk probably cursed or something but she has to die sorry- and wanted to make sure he didn't have to scrounge and steal and live in misery when that happened- he could be self sufficient and have a good life, that's all she wanted, for him to be safe and happy
when she passed, he didn't take it well, and instead of using the skills she taught him to go on and live how she hoped he would, he just didn't care anymore. he did whatever was easiest to survive, working a bunch of odd, dangerous jobs so he could get food for another day, but living was quickly proving to be too much for him. he just drifted from place to place, burning bridges anytime someone pissed him off, til he ended up working for some sketchy people from saia
this part is a little vague lol im thinking its a group trying to kidnap eiden/the grand sorcerer like how they tried to kill huey back in the day. they do kidnap eiden! and when that weird thing happens when eiden meets a clan member nanasei is ah, this motherfucker. this must be the source of the evil inside me that makes it so i cant live a normal life, maybe if i kill him i can be happy
he never actually killed anyone before tho so hes dwelling on it for days, and since he's in charge of watching eiden in his cell to make sure he can't escape, eiden gets plenty of time to yap at him, it's really annoying and he's probably just doing it to lower his guard anyway. nanasei picked up the hobby of making little figures and statues out of scrap, something mindless to pass the time between working and sleeping. they're whatever, but there's one of his granny he's been working on for a while. there's a big scuffle between nanasei's bosses and some third group who also wants eiden? everyone wants eiden lol, but a lot of fighting breaks out, eiden gets the chance to escape but goes back into the compound he was being held in because nanasei dropped his statue, and almost dies bc of it, idiot. thats probably the second....? nicest thing anyone ever did for him though and he has to obsess over it immediately
this part is even more hazy lol eventually eiden is rescued, i have no idea when the mandatory sex scene would happen, maybe they both get displaced in the kerfuffle and nanasei gets injured, idk, ill figure that out later this is long enough lol
random stuff:
so all the clan members have something fucked up about them from eiden lol, some shared trauma or hang up, and i wanted to take eiden's thing of never having a real home, no one ever wanting him, acting out, etc. like they aren't good enough for anyone to stick around, to pick them over anyone else
his granny gave him a whistle for him to use anytime they're apart and he wants her to come rushing to his side. he blew on it every day for a while after her death. he still keeps it on him but he doesn't use it anymore
i wanted to make sure that both his youkai and human caretakers fucked up with him- i dont think youkai are uniquely evil or anything, just have different standards of morality. ultimately both sides kinda hated him for being the "cause" of their loved ones deaths, and they didn't know how to nor care to figure out how to properly raise someone who didn't neatly fit in with what they were used to
His ongoing story is basically about him having to reckon with past mistakes during his time in the seedy underbelly of the world (he burned a lot of bridges with dangerous people lol), learning to actually uh live as a person and trust others, finding a way to make peace with himself. He also very pointedly does not want to rely on the good will of eiden and aster, no matter how much eiden claims he can stay at the mansion as long as he wants, nanasei doesn't feel comfortable with that and wants to make sure he always has a back up plan. he finally honors his granny's wish and starts a Proper way of living by becoming a smith, he makes small weapons, jewelry, and statues on commission. he wants to one day build a big house for himself, but no rooms no doors on the inside
he can swim way better than any human, but so slow compared to youkai. he can hold his breath underwater too, but doesn't do that anymore, it makes him panic
his gemstone is a garnet and in his lower lip
he's very intelligent and well-read but has zero and i mean 0 z e r o emotional or social know how he don't know anything about living in a society. incredibly awkward, it makes doing commissions awful. his foot always ends up in his mouth, he says things without thinking, no delicacy what so ever, but he also will say things straight from the heart bc of that too
im just gonna copy and paste this blurb i wrote at some point lol "sulky baby who doesn't want anyone to help him with anything he HAS THIS, he tries to keep calm and emotionless to not give anything away but he's so emotional it cracks easily especially if he gets mad, puts his foot in his mouth a lot he never was well socialized everyone he's interacted with were either family who bullied him or ignored him or older people pushing him around or bullying him or ignoring him….hm. So he just assumes the worst of everyone at all times takes things the wrong way….but since he's so rarely shown kindness he does pay it back tenfold. He's in a self perpetuating cycle of being convinced there's something wrong with him and bc of that everyone is out to get him so he has to be the one to push first before they Get Him. Extreme hyper vigilance, stressed out to hell and back- he has to do something with his hands to gain some sort of calm which is why he took up making those scrap statues as well as having a way to pass the time. Just generally has a hard time staying still. He has baby tastes- he doesn't like vegetables or spicy or bitter foods or meat he lives off noodles and rice and fruit. Doesn't work through conflict he has a problem with someone he blows it up spectacularly and leaves."

Really liked to be held and just get physically as close as possible, generally turns sweet and timid and pliant during, his relationship with eiden is generally kind of like a reliable older person indulging a moody shy younger person lol…trying to get him out of his shell showing him that not everyone is out to hurt him, also it's very wet he's a fish it's gotta be wet, lots of bodily fluids tears drool snot pee sweat…also like "things that would normally be embarrassing or uncomfortable but can be done with someone you trust" is another theme…showing your vulnerable side…overstimulation…hmm also just getting him to feel things at first sex is like a way to get out of his head he has racing thoughts always worried about this or that and its hard to stop it"
one time when he went to church he got hurt and olivine saw him and gave comforted him and patched him up and nanasei never got to see him again bc he ran away from home shortly after. hes remembered it always and is shocked to say the least seeing him again lol hes sure he doesn't remember him, just some random dumbass kid of dozens olivine has known for sure, but he never forgot that kindness
