A story of a boy, Davide, that is a huge fan of a F1 driver - on the article the driver’s name is not mentioned, they just call him “champion” - spent the day outside the F1 paddock because he hadn’t a pass to get in.

It describes the hopes and frustrations of any F1 fan that can’t get close enough to their idols, I believe, although in the shoes of a child it becomes more powerful. And just because everything in F1 has to be so exclusive. Anyone who ever watched a Nascar race probably envies the connection with fans they have there.

There’s a twist in the story though. The driver heard about the fan waiting for him and sent a note with an hotel address and there they got to meet each other.

Despite the fact that the name of the driver is not mentioned, there are clues that is Fernando. And the beautiful side of him he doesn’t feel the need to share. And I love that.

Local newspaper in Asturias: the story of a guy who worked for years in a mine and became one of the best goalkeepers of the local soccer team.

He says Alonso usually goes to the matches in the “League of companies” championship he plays nowadays to play with them. Ángel says Fernando is very good in the field, that he has talent with sports.

The picture on the article shows Ángel with a bike that Fernando gave him as a birthday gift. It’s a Colnago worth around 5.000 euros. “It’s a beautiful detail that just shows the kind of person he is” says Ángel.

About the food he says now he’s having more opportunities to try and highlighted how different it is from the rest of the food around the world, nothing more specific.

Thanks for explaning! It’s great to hear his appreciation of other cultures. I think the admiration is mutual. Despite the difficulties so far, I believe the Japanese fans love him even more this year with his performance both on and off the track. My friend in Japan told me that the TV commentators have spoken very highly of Fernando. Also read on the Autosport forum about a Honda documentary where the engineers, when talking amongst themselves, spoke about how they want to win with Alonso, and one even said Fernando appeared in his dreams :). Let’s hope their perseverance will pay off. Just to share (and pls forgive my rather long post, cos I tend to babble on and on when I talk about Fernando :) ) My “sushi question” was because of an interview Fernando did back in ‘08 with Renault. It was a birthday feature interview with some personal questions asked. If you have not seen it, here is a link https://youtube.com/watch?v=BWI6pFEQeKI. Think its worth a watch. It’s mostly fun questions but some of them allow some glimpses into Fernando’s personality, which I like very much. Besides, he looked absolutely adorable with his chubby cheeks and winsome smile :) Anyway, one of the questions was what would he never eat, and his answer was sushi! Was a bit surprised by his answer (he looked rather serious when saying that), and I was thinking Fernando, you don’t know what you are missing! I guess he may be referring to sushi with raw fish on top, but whatever it was, I was quite amused and this has stuck with me through the years. So I’m glad he has now more opportunities to try the amazing Japanese food! Maybe I will get to see him in a sushi restaurant one of these days! :)
