“Why would homogenisation be such a danger? Because diversity and variety constitute one of the most beautiful gifts of the Creator, and because a deep commitment to our own particularity is part of what it means to be human.” - Imam Shah Karim al-Husayni Aga Khan IV The Peterson Lecture, Annual Meeting of the International Baccalaureate (Atlanta, USA), 18 April 2008 http://www.nanowisdoms.org/nwblog/8435/

Remember that God, during your prayers, is watching for your affirmative answer to the question which He is inwardly asking you: ‘Do you believe I am able to do this?’ To which question you must from the depth of your heart reply, ‘Yes, Lord’ (Mt. 9:28). St. John of Kronstadt

Your kid shouldn’t be relieved to know you’re not home. Your kid shouldn’t have to double lock all of their stuff up because they’re scared you might go through it. Your kid shouldn’t have to think “Here comes the screaming” or brace themselves for the worse because you’re angry or stressed. Your kid shouldn’t have a genuine fear of you even being close to touching them. Your kid shouldn’t be afraid of you; your kid shouldn’t be afraid of the thought of you.
They are grateful to God. Not so us men. The birds are always singing praises to the Lord. They begin their song early, at three o'clock in the morning, and don’t stop until nine. At nine they calm down a little bit—it’s only then that they go looking for food to feed their young. Then they start singing again. Nobody tells them to sing—they just do. And what about us? We’re always frowning, always pouting; we don’t feel like singing or doing anything else. We should follow the example of the birds. They’re always joyful whereas we’re always bothered by something. What is it that bothers us? Nothing, really…. Isn’t that right?
Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica (via orthodoxthoughts)
Whoever does not evaluate what his soul has done each day is not our follower. He should ask God for an increase in his good deeds, and should repent and ask for God’s forgiveness is he has one any bad deeds.
Imam Musa al-Kazim (ع) Mishkat ul-Anwar fi Ghurar il-Akhbar h. 329 (via shiaislam)
تعلم دينك، لا ترث عليه Learn your religion, do not inherit it.
Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (via cloak-of-love)
“Those who worship God for the hope of gaining, they’re not real worshippers, they’re merchants. Those who worship God out of fear (of punishment), they’re slaves. And those who worship God to be grateful towards their creator, they are the free people, and their worship is a real one.” -Imam Hussain (a.s) Abbasi Mosque. Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Hussain (a) longed for Labbaik more than water. It’s a pity that instead of his mission, his wounds were shown to us and his thirst was considered as his biggest pain.

Why do you invite me to the courts of kings And offer to me the wine of Yazid, While I have drunk from a timeless thirst: The King of Karbala is enough for me.
