fox on the run | lamb to the slaughter
Imagine Eva Stratt years after sending her favorite guy to boss around to space. Getting the logs and recordings and finding out that her guy made first contact with sapient alien life and it IMMEDIATELY started bossing him around too. Like what if you surrendered your dog and it got adopted by an alien instantly. Happened to my girl Eva Stratt
TST Advance - Tardigrade (Hypsibius dujardini)
this kinda felt like meeting a celebrity
(seen at the international symposium on tardigrada in japan, june 2025)
I'm never getting over how, in the book, Stratt's first priority after being thrown around inside her portable by a (potentially literally) world ending explosion is to yell for Grace and make sure that he's okay.
He's not the most important person on the project at that point. She only checks on the primary and secondary crews after getting a grasp on what happened. i am not normal about them.
one of the many things that get me about the scene where grace is held down and drugged is the face that Stratt makes after she says ‘yeah, he’s running’.
she kind of looks down and nods to herself, like yeah, he’s running. Of course he’s running.
She knows him too well to have believed fully that he wouldn’t run, but some selfish part of her still hoped that he would go willingly. That he wouldn’t make this harder. That she wouldn’t need to have his blood on her hands.
But that part of her died screaming along with the part of Grace that still believed she would save him. Fate made a fool of them both.
I made a stupid meme while reading the book.
I MEAN
they posted a full version lol it’s mr Stacy’s dad for me
She would, in fact, download a car
"it's just growing pains" -> "you're too young for that to hurt that bad" -> "you just need to get in better shape" -> "welcome to being old, everyone is in pain"
New bumper sticker 🕺
i want to abuse my government expense account to buy grace candy
not only is he a movie-only character, but it was supposed to be a tiny part. the actor, Lionel Boyce, was originally hired for just 1 day of filming! according to his interviews & the directors commentary, he got along so well with ryan gosling & everyone that they just kept writing scenes for him and he was on set for a month
@kcadbackwards wrote this one. what even is super monkey ball i dont know…
I just want a fic where everyone is all ‘why is Dr Grace so grumpy today? He’s normally so sweet’ and Stratt goes to inspect him for like 5 minutes before grabbing scissors, snipping the tag out of the back of his shirt carefully enough not to leave one of those itchy lines behind, and then he’s a freaking sweetheart again for the rest of the day. Like the princess and the pea. And for some reason only her people watching abilities could figure out why.
Carl probably could have figured it out too, but he can’t be glued to Grace’s side 100% of the time lol.
Big fan of the idea that, from Erid's perspective, Grace is probably kinda scary, at first.
Like his language consists of noises that are simultaneously very simple compared to the overlapping eridian notes, and weird clicking/hard sounds that no one could even begin to try to imitate. To begin with, that's a weird combination.
And there's a popular headcanon going around that Grace can pronounce certain simple words in eridian without his piano thingy, and he would sound like a pebble learning to speak. Let's make it creepy and assume eridians also have a fear of the uncanny valley.
Grace getting better with time at imitating simple words, therefore accidentally making himself sound more and more like a pebble, sounding right enough, but not quite. That shit would be creepy as fuck.
Imagine an alien that can imitate the way the children of your species sound like. At first you'd freak out! Yeah he saved your planet but. It's like a fucking mimic. Then you'd see him trip over nothing and fall face first and you'd calm down.
This is probably a stretch but I don't care. I like to imagine eridians and humans have some very similar fears, and the uncanny valley potential is just too good to ignore.
Your misbehaving boyfriend is not funny to me
Clark saying the creatures don't feel anything and then later in the same scene the woman anomaly is seen attempting to run away from the pirate, seemingly in fear. Something something devaluation of life seen as different than him.
so many misguided metaphors around violence and desire. if the open maw of a panting beast fills you with the want to be devoured, that does not make you prey. while the rabbit trembles in fear, its deepest desire is to run. evolution demands it. in fact, the desire to be eaten does not make you any small animal at all.
it makes you a fruit.
