Currently I have a dilemma.
My parents are selling their house and downsizing to a condo. I’m getting the house ready for an estate sale.
There is a lot of Stuff, including a genuinely distressing number of Beanie Babies. Most of it is going to be pretty straightforward to price and sell. My dad is ebaying some of the more valuable stuff. That’s all fine.
My dad is a podiatrist, and so was my grandfather, so we also have things like his doctor’s bag from the 1950s (cool), film negatives of medically interesting feet (gross, but in a cool way), and badly out-of-date podiatry textbooks (gross, but in a boring way).
And. well. also there’s a human femur.
It was my grandfather’s, presumably for educational purposes. I cannot legally sell it in the state of Maryland and I don’t think I’d want to even if I could. I am certainly not keeping it. Throwing it out seems a) disrespectful and b) likely to cause an accidental police investigation.
Guys, I do not know What The Fuck To Do With This Thing.
I’m not sure that I should be turning to the bone-stealing witch website for ideas but my other options are mostly subreddits full of people who are a little too excited about the idea of owning a real human femur. Help.
You’re not the only one with a problem of this nature! More people have scientifically or historically interesting Weird Things, that they don’t want to own but don’t want to throw out, either (and they really shouldn’t. The chemicals used in preserving a lot of these things are very dangerous and should be disposed of by professionals). A lot of people turn to natural science museums, in this case.
I used to work at a natural sciences museum, as a receptionist. You can see where this is going.
Of all the many, many, many phone calls I got regarding specimens that Might Be Interesting For The Collection, the one I remember best was a disfigured human fetus in a big jar in formaldehyde. He was near full gestational size, and estimated to be over a hundred years old. He was found in an attic by the granddaughter of a GP. She named him Charlie.
The first thing she tried, was to go to a cremation centre. She wanted to show him respect and have some dignity in death. They didn’t know what to do with him and said they couldn’t cremate somebody without a death certificate. She looked around for burial options, but got the same answer everywhere.
In the end, she came to me. She said that while she didn’t love the idea of Charlie on display like that, she hoped we would at least know what to do with him. Then she burst into tears at my desk.
Charlie is not on display, but our curators did find him a place within our collection where he is taken care of. I got the lady a cup of tea and museum passes for the rest of the year.

Elon Musk: 'Donald Trump is in the Epstein files'
Everyone share your favorite quotes! Mine are Elon saying Trump should be impeached and implying he’ll be dead soon, and Trump talking about Elon like a fuckboy high schooler talks about his ex girlfriend (I asked him to leave and he just went CRAZY!)

I wish I wasnt taught so insistently to be a good kid. I wish taking up space and making noise and being disagreeable weren’t things I am terrified of being. I hate that I have to overcome that same fear a hundred times every day, because I need to live in this world and speak up and act. I hate that I have been kept small in this way, this way that recruited my own brain and instincts and mannerisms. I hate that I need that hate and that anger to overcome it now.
Because I do. This world needs me to be bigger and louder, to scream and act, to stand up, because I want to see it be better, and I will never make it better by being
fucking
palatable
But god I would have so much more to give to this fight if the first blow wasn’t for myself, internally, every damn time.
This is not what womanhood is. But this is the shape of womanhood I have been given, and so many others with me.

Showed my little sister AO3 and explained a little what it is after discovering she was reading fanfics but didn’t know the Archive. Felt like I was finally fulfilling my Older Sister Duties and Bestowing Ancient Wisdoms the parents don’t want you to know
We’re both grown women btw but some things are timeless. We’re equals and age doesn’t matter anymore but there will be times where she suddenly is my Little Sister again and I am her Big Sister until we are both old and grey and there is a beauty in that

This is important. Fuck Amazon books, Apple books. Shop local.
You are loved.
Guys I’ve been playing this indie video game I found of a small studio I liked prior work of, and. it is SO GOOD. And also weirdly therapeutic in the current political climate? It is this steampunk dystopian adventure game, really beautifully made with all these art nouveau elements. You play as a woman of colour that is unwanted by the regime and therefore, your life is in danger (sound familiar?). But unlike in real life, you get to beat up the cops in here! You get to smash the fucked up system to bits! It is honestly sooooo nice to be in that world, build a resistence, and fight back in a concrete way that I have yet to find in my daily life.
And the game is obviously a labor of love. The music was composed especially for the game, and all the dialogue is voice acted, which gives it such a real touch. The artwork is amazing. The story is so layered and poignant, about propaganda, misinformation, AI and the nature of humanity, and despite all the bullshit it still manages to feel hopeful.
I haven’t felt this way about a game in a long time and didn’t expect this at all beforehand. It was cheap on steam so I got it, but it was so much better than I expected for that price and from such a small studio. Treat yourself. you will live and you will say the wrong things and make mistakes and people will love you anyways.
Isn’t this a Hamilton lyric or something
On a completely different note I have been reading some guy’s dissertation on homosexuality in ancient greece and. he has completely re-translated Plato’s Symposion to ‘do the homoerotic elements justice’. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed an academic text as much as this one. Pure, dry facts. On anal sex, art about anal sex, love between men, sex and love between men, art of sex and love between men, statistics of sex and love between men. I’ve been checking his sources and it is extremely satisfying. Literal hundreds of ancient dic pics are shown and/or referenced. The Power Of Eros, by Charles Hupperts. I warmly recommend it.
Link it OP, don’t be a coward
I legit picked it up in some secondhand shop and when I went looking for it online, it turns out it only has one print edition and that wasn't a large one, so I accidentally recommended something nobody can actually get.
I'm really sorry, but on the other hand, I recommended a super obscure academic text so this was to be expected, really. I'll email the writer though, who knows, maybe he has an epub somewhere he wants to share.
On the second day he came with a single red rose, he said "Will you give me your loss and your sorrow?"
I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed, "If I show you the roses, will you follow?"
