the eventual and inevitable fall of twitter marks a change in the advertising industry, and tumblr is unclaimed territory. if we want tumblr to remain the social media bastion it has become, it needs to remain as unappealing to corporations as possible. do not engage. in a marketing strategist's eyes, any kind of attention is good attention. don't "silence, brand" them. don't kungpowpenis them. don't send them hate anons. don't hate-follow them. corporate tumblrs are not a single entity and they will not be harassed off this site. we only have a shot at repelling them because of tumblr's lack of an algorithm. so turn off recommended posts on your dashboard, put it chronological order, and install an adblocker. if you don't seek out these blazed posts and actively ignore them when they happen upon you, the corporations will starve. in this case, the best kind of protest is a silent one

There's something nastily classist about the treatment of Jason's childhood in canon in comparison to Tim's.

the fact that Jason's loving and dearly missed parents were retconned into abusive and unsympathetic because he grew up in poverty VS. the fact that Tim's parents were established as distant and uninterested to serve the plot from the beginning (and that his father serves as a minor antagonist in his Robin run) is ignored or hand-waived because they had money

it's like.

Wealth and poverty are not sliding scale indicators as to whether or not you're a good person and it feels insane to have to point that out.

(This is a criticism of canon, not fanon. Fanon attachment to Jason having a rough(er) childhood likely stems from a place that isn't thinking poor people are inherently evil)

Catherine Todd was not Jason's birth mother, and given the state of things probably never officially adopted him, but raised him as her own despite how little money they had, and they loved each other dearly and tried to take care of each other until they couldn't anymore.

Depending on the backstory you use, Catherine either died of an illness that they could not afford treatment for or a drug overdose.

Willis Todd turned to henching because he needed the money to support his family and ended up going to jail for it and was killed in prison while the whoever hired him got off scott free.

Catherine died due to the inaccessibility of medical care and Willis was killed by a justice system that punishes poor criminals and allows the rich to thrive.

This stuff is a major motivator in Jason's Robin days and a BIGGER one in his Red Hood days. who the fuck do they think he's trying to "even the playing field" for? people like his parents, who were failed by the system.

The retcon that Willis hit his wife and his son changes the narrative of him from a struggling father compromising his morals to help his family to just. a bad man who was a criminal because he was bad. end of story.

And Catherine's (relatively new) overdose is used by canon to dismiss her as a bad parent on NO basis, or sometimes ooc Jason shakes his fist at the sky and says "Aargh! Curse you, drugs!" as though his problem is with the vague idea of doing drugs and not the dangerous environment of exploited and addicted people with no options manipulated and taken advantage of by powerful and wealthy men the law will never touch.
