Started reading Between Tides and Thunder.
So many people recommended this book so I decided to give it a shot.
I’m only two chapters in admittedly, but I’m having a hard time with just the writing style and the way that this story is being presented.
The writing feels choppy and stilted, and everything is being told to us exposition wise by the main character instead of being bought up naturally through conversation with other characters. I don’t feel like I’m being immersed in the world, I feel like I’m just being told a story and running through the details.
Furthermore, the FMC seems to have the perfect and most upright thoughts about common folk and the way the kingdom treats them, as if she was raised in a culture completely separate from the one she was raised under. Maybe this becomes relevant later on, but it feels like she doesn’t belong in her own kingdom in anyway, and while I can understand that might be the point, it’s so jarring to see that none of her privilege as a royal or culture within Tundrayn has stuck with her at all.
I’m gonna try to keep through it but for now, it’s very meh.
So...I may have just added Found Family to my Knight x Jester WIP outline: a bunch of carnival folk including a mute, masked performer who speaks only in bell jingles.
I am not upset at all.
if the theory of amarantha and tamlin having been mates were true it honestly would just lead to portraying tamlin as an even stronger person in terms of moral conviction and self control than all others while also elevating his love for feyre to insane levels
like this guy was so opposed to his mate's political stances and treatment of lucien that he outright rejected her, then fell in love with someone else so deeply that he killed his own mate over hurting her
none of the other guys can compare: lucien betrays his friendship with tamlin over a still hopeless mating bond with elain, rhysand treats feyre as a tool and sex object before he notices the bond and only respects her as a person after, cassian thinks nesta is a repulsive and awful person but lacks the strength of conviction or ability to resist his cock's desires to leave her over it
but not tamlin, he will forge his life according to his own wants and beliefs in spite of whatever the dumb cauldron wants him to do
You Have To Kiss Evil Woman. She Can't Spell Mwahahahaha Without Mwah. Do Your Part And Kiss Evil Woman Today.

The liberated Rungjani blood (souls?) being used to paint murals of rebel orcs in a liberated theater by a young Rungjani artist is sick as fuck actually.
I swear by all that is holy, I will repair the damage done to the fey and Celtic myth as a whole with my bare hands (my keyboard)
I just got my first Amazon review, it’s 5 Stars! :D
Calypso I hate you but I love you but I hate you but I love you but I hate you but i love you but I hate you but I love you but I hate you
Odysseus and Calypso
I know we all know the classic depiction of Odysseus and Calypso, but I’ve been thinking many thoughts about it.
~
What if Calypso’s only reference for marriage was Zeus and Hera, and so she figured Zeus’ dalliances outside of the marriage was just part of it?
What if Odysseus taught her adultery was not the correct way, and she realized her mistake?
What if Odysseus contemplated leaping from the cliffs of Ogygia, but stopped when he realized that both of them were trapped, and seeing him end his own life would scar her?
What if Calypso did everything in her power to help Odysseus enjoy his time there?
What if they cooked pineapple, built sandcastles, had foot races, fished, told stories, explored parts of the island?
What if they were friends, and when Odysseus was given the chance to go home, Calypso didn’t protest?
If she let her only friend, who struggled so hard and only wanted to see his family?
Because his happiness mattered more than not being alone?
What if she pushed the raft out to see as much as she could, and held her tears in until Odysseus was out of sight, and out of ear shot?
FINALLY, the first draft of “Apolyocalypse” my six-person polycule romance set in a fantasy world zombie apocalypse, is completed!
It’s actually name is The Darkness Has Teeth, but I love the name Apolyocalypse for joke reasons
Maya Davinos: Julien, I want you to get married and have a child ASAP, and convince Aranessa to remarry too.
Julien: I think the fuck not, Mother.

Some inspirations for my MMC in my Romantasy book, “Where Myth Fades to Legend” ;)
I know a lot of people say that fey are played out, but if I may ask…would you be interested if we changed things around a bit?
🍀 Courts named after Flowers
🍀 Fey with actual animalistic/elemental traits
🍀 Fey that talk about what it means to love someone with a shorter lifespan, and what that means culturally for them
🍀 Fey who don’t produce sexually, but through a magical ritual
🍀 Fey that do NOT call themselves male and female, for THEY are born of nature
🍀 Fey that aren’t JUST Hot Elves
All this, is in my book ;)
So my book is out yall 🥹

BLURB:
One taken. One wounded. One left behind.
In the years since their uncle left them, Mira, Gale, and Lily Harwin have done all they could to carve out a life for themselves. But when their village becomes the battleground for two factions of warring fey, Lily is stolen away, and Mira is struck with a mortal wound. The only way to survive is no to be taken to the fey’s Court of Helenium, leaving Gale behind.
Awakening in the care of Kerian, a benevolent fey lord who appears utterly devoted to the protection of all humankind, Mira must recover and learn the ways of his homeland, as well as the nature of the war that threatens to bury him and the whole of his Court. Someone has managed to pierce the wards he has protected for over two centuries, and he is keen to find out who and why.
As such, Mira and Kerian are bonded in purpose: she must find her sister and the other villagers, and Kerian is honor-bound to aid and protect her along the way. Despite the bloody, oppressive history between their respective peoples, the connection between them grows into something deeper than a mere alliance, bonding over the harsh responsibilities their respective lives have thrust upon them.
All three Harwin sisters must deal with the politics, magic, and challenges of this new world, fighting with guile, brute strength, and everything else they have until they’re back together, safe in each other's arms.
Where Myth Fades to Legend is an epic fantasy with heavy romantic subplots, inspired by celtic and slavic mythology, and the first book in the Burdens of Legacy series.
