Basics: 

Much of the discussion here will be rooted in enthusiasm for filmmaking (and other artforms) in general. Criticism of a film is not condemnation of everyone and everything involved in its execution, and appreciation of a film is not a blanket endorsement of everyone and everything involved in its execution. Let's try to explore these things in good faith, yeah? 

The blog runners are based out of the northwestern United States, and we’re pro-BLM, anti-TERF, anti-SWERF, abolitionist, and otherwise pro-human rights. This is not a full summary of our worldviews, and other issues will be addressed if/when necessary.

"Frog dissection" -- posts (original or reblogged) in which I explain the bit in the comments or tags. (In reference to E.B. White's quote: "Explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog; you understand it better, but the frog dies in the process." Personally, I don't think that's unilaterally accurate, especially in asynchronous interactive contexts like tumblr, but it makes for good shorthand.)

"Frog surgery" -- posts in which someone else has explained the bit in a way that's clear but also adds to the joke (I suspect these will be rare)

"Key gripe" -- posts featuring a very petty complaint/critique about a movie or series

health isn't a virtue.

people still go around acting like they've done something good in order to be able bodied and healthy. that they worked for it, that it's due to their moral fibre or good upbringing or self control. they genuinely, on some level, believe that they are a good person solely based on the strength of their physical abilities. they will resist the fact that it is largely down to chance that they were able to maintain such health. whatever they think they've built from scratch, the building blocks were already handed to them. not because they're more worthy of it, just by luck. and they really think they're worth more based on that sheer luck. i've met disabled people worth a hundred of the healthiest ableds alive.

This is one of those things that people struggle to fully accept even after they've absorbed the idea that disability and illness aren't the result of flawed character. A person can fully understand and advocate for the fact that bad luck/factors beyond a person's control are the reason someone isn't able-bodied and healthy, and that person will still think that they're in control of their health and ability.

This is not to say that people shouldn't do what they can to take care of themselves (and I think it reflects a very bad-faith reading of this concept to assume that). The point is that we have to accept and fully internalize the idea that no one is fully in control of the factors that affect their physical well-being, and the number of factors that anyone can influence is not connected to their character.
