Mutua Madrid Open Predictions
Welcome to the new and hopefully improved Roger Federer Experience page!
Time for some down and dirty predictions for the Mutua Madrid Open!
First semifinalist in the top half:
Novak Djokovic - Djokovic has had a tough couple of weeks, losing to Nadal, and more importantly, the loss of his Grandfather, but I think he'll turn things around, and do what he does so well: win. Djokovic to the semis!
Second semifinalist in the top half:
Roger Federer - Federer will be partaking in his first clay tournament of the year after sitting out Monte Carlo to rest after his long hard court season. He's primed to continue his winning ways (Champion in Dubai, Rotterdam, and Indian Wells) and will be trying to take over the #2 position from Nadal before Roland Garros (which will be tough). Federer will be playing on the new blue clay everyone is talking about. Federer into the Semis!
First semifinalist in the bottom half:
Juan Martin del Potro - Andy Murray is out with an injury o Jo-Willy Tsonga is the #4 seed. The Frenchman has never won a clay tournament, and Delpo is primed to go deep. He's looking to continue his winning ways after winning Estoril.
Second semifinalist in the bottom half:
Rafael Nadal - It's clay. Do you expect Rafa to lose on clay ever? NO. But this is blue clay, the same blue clay which Nadal and Djokovic have complained about since stepping foot on it. If the blue gets into Rafa's head, it could cause him to lose focus and drop a set here or there and maybe a match.
Federer d. Djokovic - As well as Djokovic has been this year, he hasn't been as good as last year. And, if you remember, the last time these two faced on clay, at Roland Garros, Federer handed the Serb his first loss of the season in the semis. Maybe some revenge factors will be in play here, but both men want a good tune up to Roland Garros.
del Potro d. Nadal - Delpo has gotten to the point where he is as good as when he broke onto the scene in 2009. He can beat Nadal. Nadal has played fantastic clay tennis per usual, but it's Delpo's time to shine on the blue clay.
Federer d. del Potro - Since Delpo beat Federer in the 2009 US Open Final, Fed's had his number. He's beaten Delpo 4 times this year without dropping a set. Federer is having a fantastic year, and has only lost 3 times, once to Nadal, Isner, and Roddick. Delpo has done just as well, racking up 27 wins with 6 losses (4 to Federer). Federer wins his first clay court tournament of the season, and marches one tournament closer to Roland Garros
Federer Wins the Championship 6-3 6-4
