If I could
I hate when people (read: my parents) throw the "One day off won't mess you up" shit at me. Like no, one day, out of 365, will not stunt my progress. But you know DAMN WELL that's not all you want. When you're constantly hounding me about being home more often and constantly trying to convince me that I'm overworking myself, you're just trying to get me to put you before myself. And that's not gonna happen. I'm first in my life, and I know how to make myself happy. And im gonna keep doing that shit. So back the fuck up and stop trying to keep me from my goals.
omg i just realized why mario and luigi are red and green
how i didn’t see that i’m so stupid
and why their clothes turn white when you get the power up
Woah
Some months ago, I asked a question to the social justice blog, This Is Thin Privilege, regarding my sleep apnea. That month, my doctor had advised me that I immediately needed to lose weight because it was harshly effecting my breathing and sleep apnea was something I dealt with every night. He also told me that my weight was contributing to a variety of other health problems, including my sore joints. I should note at this time I was eating large quantities of terrible food.
Then I discovered TITP, and felt some hope that my doctor was simply misinformed, and that there’s another reason for my health issues. TITP even told me that there isn’t any evidence to back up that weight is related to sleep apnea.
However, I received a lot of messages from people advising me to not listen to TITP, and to listen to my doctor. This was very hard to do, considering I wanted to hang on so much to what TITP told me.
But I did eventually go back my doctor, and he recommended a lap-band surgery because I was so big (I’m only 5'4, and I don’t even want to mention how big I was. But let’s just say I barely went out the house.) This was in February. It’s now June and I just want to say…
I feel better than ever. I’ve already lost a whopping 64 pounds already, and although I’m still big, I can run better, I can breathe better, and my already sleep apnea has disappeared. I’m also eating better (lots of vegetables) and I have more energy than I can ever remember having, and exercising more. I also feel full faster without having to eat so much.
I decided to type this post because TITP is giving potentially harmful information to its followers. If I listened to their advice, who knows what could have happened. One of the biggest things about the Body Positivity movement is that it gives hope to people like me, and instead of taking responsibility of our lives on ourselves, we’d rather place it on society instead. That’s why I find it so insulting when TITP compares their movement to racism, sexism, and homophobia. We fat people are given all the same rights as our thin counterparts. We are not facing oppression like blacks or gays have. Yeah, sometimes I have a hard time finding clothes or fitting into seats, but thats not the definition of oppression, and I cannot expect entire industries and the entire globe to bend over to my every whim just because I decided to lead my life in a certain way! Life doesn’t work that way! We have to grow up and be strong women, not stay on the computer all day and complain about the problems we face because of our personal choices!
It’s okay to feel fine about your body, but it is wrong to be body positive when you realize the body you have is contributing to your health problems, and you’re completely aware that can be changed.
I wanted to be a big believer in TITP, but going through more of that blog its entirely misleading. Doctors aren’t trying to body shame us when they want us to lose weight, they are doing their job. One of the mods of TITP doesn’t even believe there’s a such thing as healthy eating, which is really misleading! It’s even weirder than many of the problems they describe are experienced by thin people just as much as fat people.
I want everyone to be safe and think about what they are getting their selves into by following TITP. Those people are not doctors, they rely on shady studies on biased blogs as opposed to decades in medical research and science.
If I listened to TITP, I would still have sleep apnea.
Everyone should love their body. Every single body does so many wonderful and important things. But part of loving yourself and your body is keeping/making it healthy!

This is me constantly all day 25/7 but I still agree
whats it like getting 8 hours of sleep every night
vulpx this reply needs its own hall of fame imo
I don't understand why is people obsessed over the fitnessfitsme problem, what if is a low calorie intake? it's just a month! I cut my calorie intake to 700 for 50 days, less than 2 months with moderate exercise, lost all that extra weight I wanted and then continued eating a healthy balanced diet and got into more hard training. I lost the extra lbs fast so I could focus on getting leaner later in a good healthy way, there is nothing wrong with it if it's a short period of time once in a while.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT? fuck where do I start.
Congratu-fucking-lations if after deciding to starve yourself for only 50 days you went back to “healthy balanced diet” (which more likely you didn’t if you think starving is not that bad), but guess what? 500 calories is the start of 400 calories, of 200 calories, of only an apple, of “tic-tacs” have too many calories, of eating disorders, and finally of death, again, good for you special snowflake for not dying, fade stupid diets like this get people into eating disorders so dangerous and so deadly, like ugh.. you can’t even imagine how stupid is this mentality. (not the eating disorder which is actually a sickness but the part where you think spreading this is healthy in ANY way)
Just a month will most likely not be just a month. Will be “goal weight” after goal weight after goal weight.
“I just wanna be happy with my body so I’ll take a shortcut and then just go back to eat normally” and let me tell you this is how magazines sell, this is what every other fade diet is, a short cut that most likely won’t change your life forever, because after one month of restricting you’ll go back, and without learning anything from health because this diets are not about health you will gain weight back, which is no the worst thing in the world, because weigh gain is not actually bad, the problem is you will hate yourself because you gained back and next time the diet you choose is gonna be more extreme and less and less healthy. It’s a vicious cycle and ignorant people spreading shit like this, shit like that “1 month meal plan” are only reinforcing this stupid cycle and making more people miserable.
THIS YES THANK YOU.
Not to mention, even if someone really does it only for a month, they're still putting their body at risk for injury if they're training, and are more than likely gonna feel terrible and not perform/focus well at work, school, training, or whatever else they do with their life.
What even is the point this is so stupid
You have been brainwashed into thinking that meat is: 1) necessary 2) nutritious 3) affordable
It’s not any of those things.
It delicious.
Ah yes, the rotting, bacteria-laden corpse of a once living being is delicious.
You eat it raw, unseasoned, correct?
I eat it how I please. Medium rare. Seasoned. Incorrect.
Let me guess you hug cows.
You’re goddamn right I do.
Reblogging for the slaying.
Honestly though, meat is nutritious. And arguably affordable. If you're a vegan, you literally can't get b12, among a couple other necessary nutrients, without supplementation. The reason this problem doesn't show in vegans is because B12 is stored for years in the body, and most people don't remain strictly vegan for 10+years.
I'm not against veganism, but saying it's how we're designed to live isn't accurate. Do Americans eat too much meat? Absolutely! Honestly, they eat too much of everything. But veganism is made out to be this super healthy diet, when that's not necessarily true. Honestly, anyone who eats a vegetable once in a while is gonna be healthier than the average American.
I personally opt for humanely raised and slaughtered meat. Basically, I treat animals how I want to be treated. Eventually, I'll raise my own. Because it is disgusting how cruelly animals produced for meat are treated in most cases. But you're not going to guilt me into a vegan lifestyle, because I have nothing to feel guilty for.
Motor Control vs. Weakness
A “weak” muscle might actually just be a motor control issue. Sometimes, people have minimal activation of a certain muscle. This can be because of lifestyle habits (i.e. sitting all day), a traumatic injury (think: ACL tear), or just poor movement patterns developed over time.
Let’s say someone breaks their humerus (arm) while skiing. It is likely that, for a significant period of time, this person will have little to no activation of most of the muscles in and around that area. From the forearm muscles to the biceps, triceps, etc., there is minimal input to the brain. Now, once that person heals fully, removes the cast, and begins physical therapy, there is, not only atrophy, but also poor awareness of that limb. Muscles that have not supported weight for a while, are now being asked to function like nothing ever happened. While you can build back the strength to the level of pre-injury, reattaining motor control can be different, and perhaps more challenging. Certain muscles in a sequence may not fire properly, despite your attempts to strengthen them, because the brain doesn’t get enough input from those areas.
So remember, what you might perceive to be muscular weakness, can actually be insufficient motor control.
In these instances, massage and manual therapy can be especially helpful to “wake up” a muscle, so to speak. Try using a lacrosse ball on areas you want to specifically activate before your workouts, and see how that influences your movement patterns. Additionally, you can always “think” about engaging, building somatic intelligence.
Maybe my glutes aren’t actually weak..
It’s possible! People who sit for hours on end would normally have poor motor control of the glutes.
Do you have any tips for people who have poor control of the glutes? Some days mine will fire, but a lot of days they won't, and it seems what I do to try to stimulate it (lacrosse ball, glute-specific excercises during warmup) doesn't help on those days.
