An early trailblazer in the fight against HIV/AIDS and a staunch and outspoken LGBTQ+ ally, Elizabeth committed her time and energy to the cause when her friend and co-star Rock Hudson was diagnosed with AIDS prior to his passing in 1985. Elizabeth went on to become a co-founder (alongside Dr. Mathilde Krim) of the first AIDS research center amfAR, and later founded her separate Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in 1991 with the specific focus of providing nutritious meals (as well as medical and financial assistance) to people living with HIV and AIDS. She also lobbied the U.S. congress to contribute more money for AIDS research and education, devoting the last twenty-six years of her life to the cause. After Elizabeth passed away in 2011 at the age of 79, a large portion of the $156,800,000 raised at the Christieās auction of her legendary jewelry collection was bequeathed to her charity in order to continue providing the services and assistance she believed were important in perpetuity. Still actively raising funds today, Elizabethās grandson Quinn Tivey is now an officer and co-trustee of her foundation. Reflecting on his grandmotherās humanitarianism and advocacy, he recently stated: āThe fight against HIV/AIDS was such a vital part of her legacy, and although the fight is far from over, Iām honored to see the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation continue her work, educating legislators, raising awareness for the public, disproving myths and decreasing fear and stigma. Grandma stood up for what she believed in, living boldly and courageously. She would never buckle under pressure, and she certainly would not support the status quo if the status quo didnāt feel right.ā
Still my favorite strip on the internet.

happy pride month to this post specifically
people will really come into kink spaces and say you can't forcefem women like there wasn't a feature length movie about an elderly gay man forcefemming a woman as part of scheme to thwart an elaborate assassination attempt before the killer even determined their target
What... What movie is this.
ain't no way in hell this post even breaks 500
i was trying so hard to remember the nonexistent assassination subplot in My Fair Lady
āHaha remember when murder-hornets were gonna be a thing? What a nothingburger.ā
Yes, because the Washington state government activated like a sleeper-cell and ruthlessly, systematically hunted them down and annihilated them.
āY2K came to nothing amirite?ā
Yes because an army of software engineers working around the clock, losing sleep, and busting ass till the last minute prevented it from happening.
āRemember the hole in the ozone layer?ā
You mean the one that was fixed through rigorous world wide government action?
One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those āitās gonna be an apocalypseā disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.
The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.
And I still think thatās going to happen. I donāt know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope wonāt help bring it about.
And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.

leo dicaprio was nominated five times in twenty two years
amy adams was nominated five times in eight years.Ā
it took her less than half the time it took him to get the same number of nominations.
her performances are poignant, subtle, always beautifully delivered.Ā
the fact she wasnāt even nominated for arrival is an absolute atrocity.
this is the hill on which i die.

Just learned that Caster Semenya lost her legal battle and Iām so fucking sad. this is such a huge loss for intersex people in sports and sets a real fucking dangerous precedent that essentially excludes all intersex people from participating in sports unless they go through (unconsensual) HRT. the blatent racism and intersexism that the court is showing is fucking despicable and Iām so fucking upset.Ā
iām also really fucking suspicious that the ONLY people talking about intersexism in the context of this legal descision are intersex people. even when this is BLATENTLY and obviously intersexist like, perisex people refuse to recognize it. and thatās fucking disappointing. i know there isnāt much awareness or solidairty with us, but still. itās not a big ask to ask yāall to do the bare minimum of explicitly calling intersexism out for what it is.Ā perisex people fucking do better.Ā
Itās also important to mention that what Caster Semenya is facing isnāt intersexism alone, but anti-blackness, and more specifically misogynoir. Black women are consistently punished for not lining up with white standards of womanhood.
[image ID: two tweets from user Wagatwe Wanjuki. The first is in response to a tweet that reads: āPretty much every elite athlete on earth was born with a body that does shit differently than ānormal people.ā Caster Semenya is being penalized for how her body works just because of trans panic. Nobody ever asked Michael Phelps to get a lung removed to make it fairer!ā
Wagatwe replies: āNot just because of trans panic. This is also about Black womanhood and Africanness and how we are never āwomanā enough.ā
Her second tweet reads: āTransphobia, racism, & colonialism are all at play. Itās not lost on me that itās a court in a white country deciding what a Black woman must do to her body. state-sanctioned medical āinterventionsā against BW based on perceived deviance from ātrueā white womanhood arenāt new.ā
End image ID.]
Stop calling it transphobia and trans panic. Itās intersexism. Caster Semenya is Intersex. These issues overlap greatly but are not the exact same. You WILL look at the rhetoric people use to discuss intersex lives and you WILL critically examine how transgender discussion does not include intersex people. Start putting in the work. Stop calling it JUST transphobia.
And as disclaimer: everything in the tweets is correct EXCEPT for calling it transphobia and trans panic.
ID: A tweet from ayodele olofintuade (@aeolofintuade). It quotes a tweet from Ejura Salihu (@EjuraSalihu), which says āCanāt they just create separate sport categories for trans people? Itās the only fair option.ā olofintuade responds āSemanya is not Trans. Sheās intersex and identifies as female. This battle is about misogynoir and race.ā
hannibal lecter did all of that because he is a gemini.
iām not talking about the crimes by the way i mean the thousand dollar plaid suits

I mean, this screenshot alone is funnier than most of them manage to be.
This looks funny but the BBC just got a new right wing Director General who has announced his plans to scrap the satirical comedy shows Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You and "Nish Kumar" (Kumar's show is actually called The Mash Report but interesting that the brown guy was called out by name don't you think?)
The reason for this scrapping? These shows are "too left wing and critical of the government".
It doesn't matter that Have I Got News For You was hosted by the Prime Minister FOUR TIMES and that those appearances are widely credited with Johnsons popularity. It doesn't matter that the Conservative party has been in power for a decade so of course the jokes are going to be mostly about them, and that when Labour were in power the jokes were about them. Because that's how political satire works. It doesn't matter that during the last election there were probably 10 Corbyn jokes to every Johnson joke and it doesn't matter that the government shutting down THREE SEPARATE COMEDY SHOWS or even threatening to do so simply because they make fun of the government is literally fucking censorship.
Because apparently nothing fucking matters anymore.
Keep in mind, Amazon workers rely on food stamps while Amazon posts record profits.
When corporations like Amazon and Walmart donāt pay their workers enough to live, and those workers are then forced to rely on government subsidies like food stamps to survive, you the taxpayer are essentially paying their wage ON BEHALF of that corporation.
That should make you very, very angry at the corporation thatās screwing both you AND the worker whose tab youāre forced to pick up.
