do you ever think about how vulnerable specialized labor under capitalism has left us?
do you know where to get folate, calcium, iron, iodine etc without buying pills or mass-produced fortified foods? do you know how to process out anti-nutrients in edible substances (like corn, cassava, etc)? do you know how to save and store seeds from various types of edible plants? do you know how to preserve meat without a freezer or salt? how to remove bittern from sea salt? how to find water in a drought and how to purify it? how to treat dehydration?
what happens when it's your money or your life? when militaries target supply chains during war?
I think this post is more indicative or the urban-rural divide. As a person living among farmers, my answer to most of these questions is either 'yes' or 'not yet, but I know at least 3 people I could ask who could teach me'.
Capitalism is making these skills scarcer among farmers, with sterilized seeds and massive monocrop farms etc. but a lot of farmers didn't suddenly forget all their skills over night and just because the market for stuff like home-dried, preserved or fermented foods got smaller doesn't mean people with access to abundant harvests stopped doing it and passing on their skills.
I would have other problems though, like 'how do I get a refill on my medication?' and 'how do I get prescription glasses once I run out of my supply of contact lenses?' and 'how do I get dental care?'. Stuff that requires specialized labor. And a lot of that specialized labor happens to be concentrated in cities because if you have a specialized skill that a lot of people need only once per year, it helps to be in a central location where lots of people are.
We need each other. That relationship isn't unique to capitalism. Wherever there have been cities, there has been interdependence between people who had specialized skills not related to food production and people who have food production and processing skills. What capitalism does is obscure that relationship.
We do not all need to be completely self-sufficient and able to pull ourselves through the apocalypse by ourselves. Having every skill we need to survive in our own toolbox is an impossible fantasy. We need to recognize our interdependence and our need for community and we need to break out of the alienation created by capitalism.
