#every time i read a fic where kirk is like 'hands aren't really a big deal for me but i can be affected by it for spock'#i'm like whomst!!!! his private feelings leak out more through his hands than anything else including his face#because he's controlled & values his composure but is also very tense and comforts himself by touching/fiddling with/holding his OWN hands#i think it gives such a sense of both how high-strung he is in general (like uhura) and how deeply lonely and isolated he is#but also. we do see spock grab his wrist/hands on a few very tense occasions and it's a big deal and clearly desired & comforting#let them both be neurotic and freaky about their hands <3#(also the very slow hesitant fiddling in 'conscience of the king' as he listens to the watered down official version of the genocide#that he survived - whereas his anxious hand movements tend to be much more overt and pronounced in other cases - hmmm.#at any rate i do think a lot about how he's an anxious intense over-controlled person who's so often self soothing & never cries) (X)

I really just. Utterly struggle to find a heterosexual context for most of the canon Spirk stuff. Most of the time with most media I'm like yeah we're reading into that a bit. That's a weird turn of phrase that we ran with. That look could with all likelihood BE platonic but we're choosing not to see it that way.

Spirk though? "You at his side as if you've always been there and always will."

Can you IMAGINE looking at this and saying, "Haha yeah it's because Kirk is Spock's boss." Have you EVER wanted to live in your boss's pocket for he rest of your days? Or even your close friend? God forbid your BROTHER. Every pair of brothers I know who have even a genuinely loving relationship would still rather chew off their own FOOT than live together. It's the Cain instinct and it exists for found family too.

Like WHAT does that MEAN Edith? Roommates? Neighbors? At his SIDE. The line might as well have been I know you're in love with him and never ever want to leave him and you perceive him as a second beating heart and the idea of being apart is ACTIVELY agonizing to you. Spirk is so perfect because like nobody understands spock, nobody understood him - throughout his entire life. Nobody on Vulcan, definitely not his father and, God bless, not even Amanda at times. When he's growing up, he's the only half Vulcan, half human out there. He's too Vulcan for humans, he knows he's too Vulcan for even his own mother. He isn't able to tell her he loves her, give her the human affections he's aware she wants from him. He's too human for the Vulcans, his first welcoming words into the world were that he was too human from his father. He's stuck in this limbo of being too human and too Vulcan depending on who's perceiving him, and he wants to be just one full thing to someone. And then along comes kirk, a stupid googly-eyed human, who sees spock for Spock. He doesn't grant Spock's wish of seeing him as just one side (preferably his Vulcan), but he sees both those sides. Kirk absolutely adores both of them. Kirk loves Spock's logical (Vulcan) side, the side that most humans unfairly rage on, and compliments him constantly on his scientific abilities. Kirk also loves Spock's more emotional (human) side, he picks up on those little cues that most other humans miss. Kirk loves spock, not as half this and half that, but as a full person. Y'all getting this.

I really enjoyed snw at the start, but now it's like it's the spock dating show instead of Star Trek, and it's driving me nuts. Utilise your original characters, give the other characters arcs, stop with the constant annoying relationship drama 😑
