Porlyusica’s echoed in Natsu’s mind as he sat at Lucy’s bedside, quietly twiddling his thumbs as he thought long and hard on what he was about to do. He only had one shot at this -quite literally- and if he lingered any longer he’d lose it. And it was something he wanted to do -really, really wanted to… All that was left to do was come to terms with the consequences.

He took a deep, staggered breath, trying to get his words together. Not that it matter- Lucy wouldn’t hear them anyway, nor would anyone else, but he felt that they still needed to be said. He steeled himself and finally dared to let his gaze fall on her, swallowing harshly when it caught her lifeless expression.

“Yo Lucy,” he croaked out, his words thick as he forced them out. “It’s me, Natsu…you probably wouldn’t like that I’m in your bed again, but here I am…”

The back of his hand skimmed her soft cheek- how cold she was immediately jumped out at him, the stark contrast of their temperatures serving as a reminder of the insurmountable distance now between them. 

He was alive, and she…wasn’t.
