Back on my “what if Carry On was a movie” bullshit
I think it would probably work better as a TV show. But if it were made nowadays, I feel like that just contributes to the mass consumption of TV slop* that has become so prevalent in society these days
*I am not calling TV shows slop, more so the watching culture and binging habits, and the fact that the entire structure of a series has changed in recent years, and that everything has been hastened to the point of losing all personality, ESPECIALLY when it comes to adaptations
All I want to do is take my favorite book and put every ounce of love and reverence I have for it and put it on a screen as a tribute to the original but the last thing I want to do is to participate in the enslopification of audio-visual media
Pros of CO being a movie:
One complete product that can be watched in one sitting
Theatre release? Maybe? (I know this is already wishful thinking by itself but humor me)
I feel like it’s just such a Thing to make a movie out of adaptations
It’s easier to get into movies I find. No coping out after an episode or saying “I’ll watch the rest later”.
There’s probably more but my mind went blank the minute I started typing
Cons of CO being a movie
It’s a rather dense book, and very likely things will be omitted or moved around in order to make things flow better
(On that note, when I did try my hand at writing a script for class, I shuffled a few events around. I believe the dragon attack came before the truce, for example. It worked better for pushing the traditional 3 act structure)
Movies that are direct-to-streaming in the event of no theatrical run can fly so far under the radar that they disappear. Even theatrical flops make headlines for BEING theatrical flops
It would be harder to secure the budget required for all the effects in the story (like magic) (movies generally have bigger budgets)
Pros of CO being a series
Ability to really explore the story, granted more time
Less rearranging of story beats, and instead just trying to fit things into an episodic structure
TV shows are in right now. Want something made? Pitch it as a show.
Weekly episode drops keep the hype up for extended time
Probably easier to showcase switching character perspectives and characters that aren’t present physically (Lucy) instead of relying on other ways of getting similar info across
Cons of CO being a series
Inherently smaller budget means more constraints on effects
Genre shows have been shafted for the past decade, meaning any studio would likely only want to pay for 6ish or so episodes MAXIMUM, likely less
The way studios decide what shows to renew is usually based on initial watch figures after the first episode or two, so if it’s not immediately a hit it’ll succumb to the “canceled after one season” epidemic
There are so many arguments for each really, these are just some. Also I’m throwing this into the void because really, I’m just one guy begging the film and tv overlords to give a queer book from a decade ago a chance
Also it’s worth noting that usually 23-episode shows are for episodic television, and that serialized shows (like CO would be) usually have fewer episodes by default, but I could campaign for like 13 episodes (which is what shows like Breaking Bad, Ozark and Mad Men had (which, granted, are completely totally different, but they’re the first things I think of when it comes to serialized narratives (as opposed to things like the early seasons of Supernatural, which were 23ish episodes but episodic (where each episode followed a formula))))
Edit: for reference, I’m imagining live action because I love live action fantasy. If it’s done well.
I got my degree in screenwriting and god damnit I’m going to use it
all these fellas out here looksmaxxing but they need to be booksmaxxing.
New ‘Keeping Children Safe In Education 2026’ (KCISE) guidance sets out in detail the limits now placed on schools on supporting Trans+ chil
It has taken a "trans exclusionary" approach and received widespread condemnation from the LGBTQIA+ community
Both the newly released KCSIE guidance and the RSE guidance (released last year) are coming into effect in September 2026. If you're a trans kid in England, I'd advise you to read this so you know your own rights going forward.
If anyone wants I can provide a summary later but I'm too exhausted right now. I just. This fucking country.
Because I ALWAYS assign colors to my mutuals in my head and want to know if other folks do this too I have a game:

A lot of the time people will say like "oh I'd never make fun of a disabled person" but then they do and they don't even realize that that's what they're doing. Like
People will say they wouldn't make fun of a schizophrenic or psychotic person but then make "jokes" about people being insane and delusional.
People will say they wouldn't make fun of epileptic people but then get mad about having to add flash warnings.
People will say they wouldn't make fun of an autistic person but then berate people for missing social cues.
People will say they wouldn't make fun of visually impaired people but then call people lazy for not reading things themself or making spelling mistakes.
People will say they wouldn't make fun of an intellectually disabled person but then mock people who can't do "basic" things.
I think it in part comes from the belief that the people you know couldn't possibly be disabled, that if you met a disabled person you'd be able to tell immediately. And, no. That's not how it works. If you want to be an ally to disabled people, you don't make fun of the things we do. Even if you're not making fun of someone who's disabled, you're telling the other disabled people you know that you're not safe for us to be around.
is this gonna get me fired you think

You like my little boi? 🤩
YES VERY MUCH I WANNA SQUISH HIMMM
what i really like about Simon is how he feels like a metaphor for being "gifted" and neurodivergent. (In my experience)
He's the greatest mage, hes the chosen one. He can't seem to cast a spell half the time. But also spells just happen without words sometimes.
He's got a natural affinity for magick, but he always feels behind in how the magickal world works
He tries his best and still fails in what should be easy.
He literally explodes with magick when upset. His feelings being too much for his mind and body and exploding outward.
his mentor expects the world. He has no idea how to achive that expectation.
Is this intentional? Idk, but his going off is like. THE description of how my autistic meltdowns feel.
I relate to him so much genuinely. I’m not neurodivergent to my knowledge but I relate to his anger and emotion disregulation so much. And going from being seen as accomplished to not knowing who you are at all. And his struggle with his wings and body image in awtwb. I love him so much.

your aroace friend you try to ignore: did you know there's a 6 hour cut of project hail mary
being a writer is fun
Since Rocky and Grace have access to a ton of video games on the Hail Mary, I figured eventually they'd play Just Dance during their trip to Erid
