preface there's nothing substantial in canon that suggests this whatsoever but i like the idea of manga L resenting watari somewhat, because watari is the only person L uses informal register with and is generally fairly short with and it's legitimately a huge contrast with how L talks to literally anyone else and there's a whole multiverse of possible reasons for this (maybe it's meant to indicate closeness or unmasking or entitlement) but i think resentment is an interesting one because we do also know L cares about watari a lot (doesn't send watari to investigate yotsuba because of the danger + his reaction to watari hitting the all data deletion button) and so the idea of this simultaneous frustration and care is fun to play with, especially considering how he doesn't bring up wammy's house even once while talking about who should take over the investigation when he dies (even just to soichiro). like there's all this narrative silence on his feelings about the entire matter and watari would naturally be near the heart of that
