For Michigan, you don’t need a Real ID (until 2020, but that seems to be only for traveling by plane domestically so doesn’t actually apply here), but you need a state ID or driver’s license to vote. There’s a link below (I’m on mobile, can’t do anything fancy), on some resources on how to get an ID such as what you need, where you can go, how to become an organ donor (might as well do that while you’re at it), etc.:

Once you have that, below is a link for a printable PDF to mail in to vote. In Michigan, I think you have to mail it in. But, if you don’t have a printer, go to your local library. You can print documents out for a few cents. Also note that you have to do this by 30 days before the election. But if you get it in early, you can take advantage of primary elections and peace of mind that it is done.

Then you can check out the link below this to look at local ballots, verify your voter status, and even request an absentee ballot if you will be at college or just can’t get to the polls on election day because of work or other things.

I’m going to encourage others to put their state’s links and information, but it was super simple to Google for these things (just make sure you go to your state’s sos or dmv .GOV website). You will have to go to an office if this is the first time you are registering for an ID (and depending on your state, the payment will vary. When I last got an ID, it was $25 I think.), but in Michigan you do not have to pay to register to vote (unless you count printing and stamps).
I’m focusing on Michigan today because, A. Our governor is a douchebag and did fuck all with the Flint Water Crisis, so we need to vote someone in who will actually do something about that. B. We were a notoriously blue state until this last election when all of our electoral votes went to the Evil Orange Man. All eighteen. Even if you voted for Hillary Clinton, your vote technically went to him in the grand scheme of things. The electoral college is by far the worst system for voting as it does not reflect the population as a whole (remember how Clinton won the popular vote?). Until it is abolished, it will be super important to get out their and register. So if you register now, you will be able to vote in 2020. And C. Do it because white republicans don’t want us to vote, and you not getting registered and taking the time to let your voice be heard is exactly what Trump and Snyder and every other bigot wants. No more should we allow this to happen.
If you are able to, please register to vote. If you need help in this process, ask for it! Whether you need help filling out forms or help paying to get an ID, please get it! This is too important!
