Hermione in Ginmione fanfics be like:
The Wands We Wield: The Untold Histories of Hermione and Ginny by Moira Inkwood . 18 chapters, 62k+ words and ongoing.
it be like this
Harry Potter ships/duos (both romantic & platonic) as textposts + one golden trio
“Edelgard is a Facist and conquers Fodlan only for installing her own authoritarian regime”
I think the real irony here is that Crimson Flower is the only route where you don’t establish an authoritarian regime.
Edelgard dismantles the authority of the church, revokes noble privilege, and enacts reforms such as public schooling to ensure the common people have the capability to elevate themselves (this last bit being Ferdinand’s idea but she was still the one to implement the policies across Fodlan). Then she steps down and does not pass any of her imperial authority to her children, making way for a civilian government to rule.
Meanwhile every other route involves Byleth becoming the Immortal God-King of Fodlan. That ain’t fascism either but it sure is authoritarianism.
LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
I love how Crests and the allegory implied therein completely upends a lot of the tropes Fire Emblem has established for itself over the years. The series, as much as I love it, has a tendency to just kind of take hereditary monarchy/nobility for granted and most of the main characters have always had a Lion King-esque “you’re-the-rightful-king-because-genes” self-evident quality to their ”divine right” — they get to be monarch because their great-great-great grandparent helped kill the Big Evil a millennia ago. Pretty reactionary when you get down to it. 3H takes the “founding mythology” that justifies the nobility and twists it: the class system was actually founded on vile bloodshed (and covered up with propagandistic lies by Rhea and the Church) and it continues to create massive inequities into the present day. There’s widespread corruption and we can clearly see the injustices committed in the name of the Church and as a byproduct of “Crestism”.
And Edelgard justifiably wants to overthrow all that.
I get the impression that IS took influences from Marx, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Martin Luther when they wrote Edelgard’s characterization. I don’t think you’re meant to support every action she takes (particularly in Dimitri’s route, but then again I don’t count the weird monster caricature they turned her into at the end because that seems like too big a departure from her character), but she’s still by far one of the most interesting characters in all of Fire Emblem, and definitely my favorite lord so far. I love that she actually goes there and wants to build a new social system founded on more egalitarian principles. (Whether that system is liberal capitalism or a proto-socialism, I think you could make a solid case for either one depending on how you interpret her political rhetoric and her opposition to Crests and feudal inequality.) She definitely has a vanguardist approach and it’s clear that she takes her principles very seriously, since, as @arachnofiend noted above, she steps down when counter-revolution subsides and was never interested in power for the sake of power. (But she’s sure as fuck gonna expropriate the nobility on her way out, as seen in her glorious ending mural.)
(And PS: I’ve seen people actually argue that it doesn’t make sense for Byleth to side with Edelgard, other than for contrived OOC reasons on the former’s end. To that I say: uh….what?? Byleth sees the Church’s grip on power and how they react to dissent; s/he is repeatedly told by Jeralt to not trust Rhea and the Church; s/he talks with Edelgard and others to get a full picture of Crestism; s/he knows that Edelgard only sides with TWSITD for strategic reasons (and that she’ll combat them with everything she’s got after the war is over); it definitely wouldn’t be unreasonable for a commoner like Byleth to see the merit in Edelgard’s political ideals; etc. Oh and here’s a pretty obvious one: Rhea was largely only using Byleth as a means to reincarnate her goddess mother. S/he doesn’t owe Rhea/the Church anything; and I think it’s super interesting that it’s only in the Crimson Flower ending that Byleth’s heart is fully “restored” to its mortal self, as it was before Rhea interfered and turned her/him into a largely emotionless shell. There’s just so many good things about the CF route and Edelgard’s character and I think it’s a real shame that they don’t get as much love as they deserve.)
Honestly this is the worst part about it. You will all literally cheerlead imperialist conquest of peaceful nations by an ‘enlightened despot’ so she can force her views and her will on the ‘less enlightened’ people.
This is exactly what every imperialist and colonizing force in history does. It states it has the best system, that it has a moral system, that it is more enlightened, that it is more fair and then it uses that as justification to launch unprovoked wars of aggression in which it dismantles all autonomy of the other states and then forces their will, by martial force on them.
This is honestly the most terrifying part of it. It’s literally just the strong-man and dictatorial logic of ‘I know better so everyone do as I say or I kill you,’ and rather than questioning it it’s just uncritically regurgitated as absolutely justified and good.
By this logic in state in the world which believes itself to have a better, more moral, system of government is given a carte blanche right to invade, conquer, and dominate all other states and force them to bow to it’s will.
This includes things like Edelgard literally appointing Count Bergliez, an Adrestian, to rule the Alliance, invading the Alliance even when Claude is literally trying to avoid going to war with her. Even in routes where Faerghus doesn’t shelter the Church she still invades them and has the entire Blaiddyd Line executed. Even when Houses Gautier and Fraldarius are fighting for nothing but their independence she STILL is invading then. Her own ending mural literally has her TRAMPLING on the flags of the other nations.
The sheer arrogance and callousness of claiming ‘I know better, I will conquer you, submit or die,’ just makes me want to cry. This is exactly why imperialism and colonialism can flourish as they did and do, because this belief that if you think you know better you’re entitled to massacre, murder and conquer anyone who want submit to you is just uncritically absorbed and accepted.
Gah. It’s telling that the only significant character who’s people have suffered an ethnic cleansing in the game, Dedue, is staunchly against Edelgard and never sides with her. Edelgard also allows Nobles like Count Bergliez to completely maintain their authority and she even EXPANDS their rule by just unilaterally, without any consult or input from ANYONE in Leicester appointing them to rule it.
I honestly get sick for how much cheerleading for Imperialism and Colonialism some Edelgard fans do. I really, really do.
are you trying to miss the point?
Soooo, let’s unpack this.
I could say that pince here is cheerleading for Theocratic rule, Absolute Monarchy, and the brutal oppression of the lower classes and clutch my pearls about how oh so awful it is. But that would be dishonestly twisting their words and making some pretty heavy accusations about supporting some real life nastiness over a video game. So let’s not do that.
When it comes to cries of imperialism and colonialism… I think it’s disingenuous to compare war between major powers to brutal policies of cultural oppression and genocide against nations which did not have the same military resources for the profit and benefit of the Imperial nation. Technically, in terms of acquiring territory, yes, but those words have certain connotations, and that’s what I’m talking about here. Agree with the war or not, Edelgard’s not doing this. She’s not trying to stamp out Faerghan culture. She’s not trying to exploit Leicester and make its citizens an underclass for the benefit of Adrestians. In fact she is quite trying to do the opposite. She is trying to remove a class system where status is determined by birth; she’s not imposing a new one.
The whole “she’s just saying do as I say or I’ll kill you” doesn’t hold water when there are points in the game which she actively tries to minimize civillian casualties (her primary targets are the governments and militaries, not the people), and also ignores the fact that she has support from common folk and even nobles who have been hurt by the crest system. That’s not even getting to the fact that in CF, the Leicester Alliance is divided about who to support. It’s not like everyone in Fodlan are all folks who just love the church so darn much until evil Edelgard forces them not to.
Also… what autonomy of the other states? The King of Faerghus is not an elected position. The Archbishop of Seiros is not an elected position. The Leicester Alliance is an oligarchy, but that’s still a far cry from any sort of system where the overwhelming majority of people in ANY of these nations get a say in how their government is selected or how their countries are run. Like, no one’s claiming Edelgard is bringing democracy to Fodlan, but, let’s be real, all of the governments of Fodlan are authoritarian. You try to bring up her not consulting the people about appointing Count Bergliez to run Leicester, but somehow overlook that literally all the other endings operate the same way - Byleth, an outsider in all of the nations, is appointed to a position of supreme authority over the people in them.
Of course, you could mean the autonomy of the governments to decide what’s best for their people. In which case, you have to grapple with the whole “some ruler deciding they get to force their will because they know best” thing, if you’re being consistent.
Lastly, there’s… not really a route where there’s the church is a non-factor. In AM the church remains in power and Byleth is made the archbishop. In SS the church rules over everything with Byleth as its head. Hell, even in VW the Leicester Alliance allies with the Church.
No one’s saying Edelgard is perfect, but… yeah. Her problems ain’t for the reasons here.
This isn’t really fair or accurate to their point though, and seems to really play loose with the idea of history by just reducing it to a ‘well we can’t say anything everyone’s fine’ position. It’s a long response so I’m going to put it under a ‘read more’.

And she's certainly not going to deny that she's in a relationship with Hermione just to make a few bigots feel better about themselves. Or, Ginny accidentally outs Hermione to the whole Wizarding World. Fake dating shenanigans ensue.

Ginny's never minded sharing a bed with Hermione when she stays over, well, if you don't count that she has a—frankly, massive—crush on her... And she's still got a couple days before the World Cup, and ... She has no idea how she's going to manage. And thats not even getting started on the cuddling.

New Ginny x Hermione Slice of Life, Canon Compliant Slow burn Romance Fic
If you want a story that’s written like the original series, like truly it feels like reading harry potter not a fanfic, ongoing and slow burn and in compliance with canon and well researched I suggest:
The Wands We Wield: The Untold Histories of Hermione and Ginny
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14426869/
it’s ongoing and only 15k words so far but is active and is brand new!!
and the cover art is cute!!
Also fun fact: read the author of this fic’s profile???? it’s crazy. They made up a whole Wizarding Works Lesbian Historian of Magic and Sapphic Relationships kind of OC. I have a feeling that this whole account will be all Sapphic uncovers and historical tales from the wizarding world and i think that’s really cool! I’ll copy paste the bio:
“Moira Inkwood Historian, Archivist, and Discoverer of Hidden Sapphic Lore in the Wizarding World Moira Inkwood is a celebrated wizarding historian, best known for uncovering the hidden and underdocumented stories of sapphic witches throughout magical history. With her sharp intellect, Moira has become a revolutionary voice in magical academia. A Gryffindor alumnus of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, she has dedicated her life to rewriting the often exclusionary narrative of wizarding history. Early Life and Inspiration Born in 1975 to a Muggle mother and a half-blood father, Moira grew up immersed in both the magical and non-magical worlds. Her fascination with history began at Hogwarts, where she stumbled upon a cryptic note tucked inside a dusty library book, hinting at the existence of a secret correspondence between two witches during the time of the Goblin Rebellions. The note’s delicate phrasing and veiled romantic undertones sparked her curiosity and planted the seed for her future studies. As an openly lesbian witch in a world still steeped in tradition, Moira felt a personal connection to the untold stories she suspected lay hidden in the Hogwarts archives and beyond. Her determination to uncover these narratives only grew as she realized how little space was given to queer voices in wizarding history. Career and Discoveries After graduating with honors in History of Magic under the mentorship of Professor Cuthbert Binns, Moira pursued further studies at the Wizarding University of Edinburgh. Her groundbreaking thesis, Whispered Spells and Hidden Hearts: The Forgotten Lives of Sapphic Witches in Magical History, challenged long-held biases in the field of magical historiography and cemented her reputation as a daring scholar. Among her most notable discoveries are: •The Midnight Coven: A secret society of witches during the 16th century who not only pioneered groundbreaking spells but also created safe spaces for same-sex relationships in an era of widespread persecution. •The Letters of Ethelinda Greengrass and Morgaine Travers: A cache of love letters hidden in the Hogwarts Restricted Section, detailing a decades-long romance between two witches from rival pure-blood families. •The Sapphic Spellwork Codex: An ancient grimoire written by witch lovers Helena Ravenshade and Lysandra Bloom, featuring enchantments that symbolized their bond, including a protection charm that later inspired modern-day Fidelius Charms. Moira’s work has redefined how the wizarding world views its past, shining a light on the courage and resilience of witches who dared to love against the odds. Advocacy and Legacy As a professor at Hogwarts, Moira established The Lavender Quill, an initiative to encourage young witches and wizards to explore and document marginalized histories. She has also worked tirelessly to expand the curriculum of History of Magic, incorporating queer narratives and diverse magical traditions. Her bestselling book, "Sapphic Sorcery: The Hidden Histories of Queer Witches", is now a staple in wizarding households and has inspired a generation of witches to reclaim their heritage. Personal Life Moira shares her home near Hogsmeade with her partner, Rowena Hartwell, a curse-breaker for Gringotts, and their mischievous Kneazle, Ivy. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring enchanted ruins, collecting rare historical artifacts, and hosting informal gatherings for queer witches in the magical community. Moira Inkwood’s work stands as a testament to the power of love, magic, and determination, reminding the wizarding world that its history is far richer and more inclusive than previously imagined. Her legacy ensures that the voices of sapphic witches will never be forgotten again.”
