Lou-Lou's dead-eyed stare flashes behind my eyes. Then I see Katniss with that same emptiness. The fire gone. The fight gone. Just a body wearing the shape of someone we love. A pale imitation. And Peeta... Peeta, who has spent every day since she disappeared reaching for someone who isn't there. He misses her in a way that hurts to look at. It sits in the hollows beneath his eyes, in the restless way he moves, in the way every scrap of news about her cuts through him before he can pretend otherwise.

I am seventeen years old. I was in the Hunger Games. Twice. I was captured. I'm supposed to be the Mockingjay. 

Or at least that's what everyone has told me about the last year of memory I've lost. They've told me a lot and nothing. Prim, Gale, the town drunk, all these strangers from a grim District that isn't home. 

The only one who seems to be giving me space is Peeta Mellark. The boy with the bread. My co-victor apparently. Among other things.

After her rescue from the Capitol, Katniss has lost a year. A very eventful year. And between the videos, and slow return of her memories, it seems that Peeta Mellark is the only person who knew what to do with her.

Continuing my little art journey by challenging myself to try a few things I never have before with this piece. Starting with drawing a comic style page which is a huge undertaking, didn't really realize til it was done that I basically made 4 drawings. I also continued the challenge by limiting my color palette. I wanted to see what would happen if I had constraints and it actually taught me so much. (The colors used were #002D41 #09849B #7ACED4 #F15E84 #F5A2C4 #F9EED8) And if that wasn't enough, I also only used the default studio pen for the whole thing (exceptions were made for the wallpaper stamp in the first panel and I used the blender on the face closeup for full disclosure). I clocked 11 procreate hours making this. I am immensely proud of myself for what I accomplished here and I'm sure it will sink in when I'm not so extremely tired of looking at it anymore lmao.

I am not a legit Gale hater by any means but there is something so indescribably funny about fics where he returns to 12, comes into Katniss’s house looking for her, and gets rocked by the sight of peeta walking out of her bedroom naked. or witnesses a toast baby wreaking havoc on the town or haymitch or something. and then it’ll be tagged #galone or some shit. need more crack fics on this wavelength.
