Welcome to Day 5! Today we have Elsa from Frozen!
(Screams in fangirl 😆😆😆😆😆 Warning: I love the two Frozen movies, so this might be a long one)
Anyway, I headcannon her as greyromantic/greysexual.
So in movie one, we see Anna more concerned about true love than Elsa. Elsa was more busy fighting her internal demons. So pretty understandable that romance would be the last thing on her mind. Once she runs away, it’s very obvious that she feels a new found freedom and enjoys some solitude.
I’ve heard many people say that her song ‘Let It Go’ was an emotional connection to many queer people. Listening through that perspective, I can understand, and I like that. When I first watched the movie, it was my favorite song. I loved how confident and free it sounded. (Side note: this was before finding out I was greyro/greyace) At the time it felt like a scene of independence and a space to be you.
While there was some romance in movie one, it’s only Anna who experiences it and focuses on it. Elsa’s focus was for her family, her sister.
Notice how the ‘act of true love’ was Anna protecting Elsa. And at the end, Elsa’s love for Anna is what helped her thaw their kingdom. We see the two sisters and the others happily skating. Anna found her romantic interest and a chance for her and her sister’s relationship grow again. Elsa found no romantic interest and a chance to bond with her sister again.
Moving on to the second movie, (which is based about 3 years later), we see the group (Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven) happily going about their lives. Anna and Kristoff seem to be happily together (so much that Kristoff wishes to propose). When it comes to relationships, Elsa seems focused on her sister, Kristoff, and Olaf, as she has accepted them as family now.
(Literally had a portrait made in the castle of all five of them together, right next to their earlier family painting. If Elsa was uncomfortable with this, there would be no portrait, so she’s accepted them.)
While on her freakin awsome adventure, we again see her focus on her family, herself, and her kingdom. She meets lots of new characters. Including Honeymaren.
(Brunei, my child 🥰)
Personally, I don’t canonically ship the two. I feel like it’s too early to tell if they can be a couple. But, I like the concept for fanfics. The two seem to get along well but I’m getting early close friends vibes. Like, they might be close buddies in the next movie, I don’t know about a couple tho.
Other than Honeymaren, I don’t think Elsa was particularly close to anyone or initiating to be close to anyone, other than the 4 spirits. She was a spirit as well, so it makes sense why Brunei, The Nokk, and Gale liked her (after finding out about her magic of course.) (I’m convinced the betrayal from the past kinda gave them trust issues.)
We end movie two with Elsa enjoying her life as the Fifth Spirit. She meets up with her family for their get togethers, she watches over the Enchanted Forest, and visits the Kingdom of Arendelle.
She never seems opposed to having a partner. (Except when she was a small child, of course.) When Anna wished to marry Hans, she wasn’t opposed to marriage exactly, more of concerned that she was marring someone she just met. (Valid concern, honestly.) Reminder that she was okay with Kristoff and Anna’s marriage (after they were bf/gf for 3 yrs).
So, in conclusion, I say she may be greyro/greyace. Maybe she’ll find love, but she wanted to learn how to love herself and others first. Maybe in movie 3, we might see something. Until then, she seems happy where she’s at and in no pursuit of a partner.
My personal headcannon/hope is at least a hinted QPR with Honeymaren. (I know it’s unlikely but until the 3rd movie is finished I stand by it.)
Honeymaren and Elsa QPR headcannon
* Elsa’s regular meet ups with Honeymaren always have some sort of singing involved. It started out as lullabies and jokes but now they play around with whatever they come up with.
* Elsa visits Honeymaren the most cuz she ended up bonding with her the most. Some of the others wondered if Elsa liked Honeymaren romantically but Honeymaren dismissed the idea. (Which brought Elsa secret relief.)
* After the spirits saw Elsa’s bond with Honeymaren, they all started playing hide and seek with Honeymaren to show that they accept their bond
