christopher nolan shakespeare would be like “our much ado has been about nothing”
“our twelfth night is coming to an end”
"that love's labour sure did get lost"
“that midsummer night was a dream”
"that to be wasn't"
Give me jelly beans you fuck head
honestly did hamlet and horatio even really know each other before the events of the play????? thinking….
the scene where they first meet is SO interesting. “Horatio—or I do forget myself!” does NOT sound like a friend you just left at school a month ago. that sounds like a classmate whose face you recognize. “your poor servant ever” and “sir my good friend. I’ll change that name with you” reads to me like hamlet assuring horatio he knows who he is and is very glad to have him here — don’t worry, yes I remember you from class, thank you for coming, of course we’re friends. FURTHER.
horatio didn’t come to elinore to specifically see hamlet. he came for the funeral. this reads like horatio is attending an event of state rather than attending to see his friend. “I saw him once. He was a goodly king” also has some distance in it. sure horatio probably wouldn’t have much occasion to see hamlet sr, we don’t even know if he’s from denmark. but it’s not through a memory with hamlet that he is recalling seeing the king. it’s a distanced memory with such a vague connection - “I saw him once” from a distance, in a procession. hamlet sr certainly isn’t coming with hamlet to drop him off at school.
anyway the reason that this is important to me is because horatio trekking all the way out to elsinore and becoming hamlet’s only friend (LITERALLY the only person he trusts) and then witnessing him die in his arms five acts later almost feels more wrenching than a long held friendship. this was just his classmate from school

I always loved how back in the day before cellphones, people were unreachable if they weren’t at home. You can call but I won’t be there to answer. You can leave a message but you don’t know how long it’ll be until I hear it. You don’t know if I’m home, but you will have to make the trip to come to my house and knock on the door, hoping I’ll be there. And if I’m not…you can’t reach me!! Now that everyone has a cellphone the expectation of being reachable 24/7 is so disastrous. And let’s not even get into read receipts. I think one of the worst times of my inner peace is when I had an apple watch and suddenly every text and phone call and notification was on my freaking wrist, even if my phone was giving the illusion of distance by being in my pocket or bag or charging in another room. I stopped using it in 2022 and I’d rather eat a jean jacket with no water than ever be so connected again. “oh you can just turn off notifications!” not the point.

people will say “they’re only friends” and then show me two people who would crawl through broken glass to hear the other laugh once. two people who have memorized each other’s coffee orders, fears, childhood stories, and emergency contacts. two people who would haunt each other’s houses as ghosts. be serious.
Just an FYI—the original intention of this post was to challenge the way people say only friends, as though friendship is somehow lesser than other forms of love. As if being deeply known, cherished, and chosen by another person could ever be a small thing. Normalize profound platonic love. Some of the most fulfilling, transformative, and enduring relationships we will ever have are friendships. 🫶🏼
deriding things as performative is anti third space
im sitting on a patio at my favorite cafe rn and im hand stitching them hem of a dress im working on. and i can see why someone would say im being performative by working on something like this in a public space. but frankly theres no element of that. i just want to work somewhere that isnt my apartment. i want to be in public, i wanna chat with strangers, i wanna see the world. it’s nice to hang out somewhere that isnt my home!
what i mean is when you say people are being performative you discourage them from doing shit they love in public. and thats no way to foster the world we want to see.
let’s be real the pressure to use AI as an adult is exactly what they said the pressure the do drugs as a teenager would be like but the people that told us that caved immediately for the AI and definitely did not just say no
the fact that helen of troy is a mother is soooo crazy to me bc no one ever ever ever looks at her like that. they will give her every other title except mother. what if she’s not the face that launched a thousand ships or menelaus’ wife or paris’ lover or aphrodite’s pawn or the traitor or the downfall or the most beautiful woman in the world what if she is just a girl’s mom sometimes. does anyone remember??? she has a little girl. she used to rock her to sleep
Your artstyle is like your gut microbiome in the way its everything you consume and like and it also has all your bacteria up in it. Thats probably how that works
SO TRUE
I think that part of what irks me about AI being used even for "small" stuff like meme graphics (aside from all the larger problems obviously) is like.... the time spent on it was part of the humor. "this is a silly inconsequential joke but I had to stop everything and spend 5 minutes making it" was, at least for me, part of the joke. Someone really took time out of their day to make me look at something silly they took time out of their day to make. Now it's like someone took time out of my day to make me look at something no one even made. Stop wasting my time if you aren't wasting yours too.
what they don't tell you about hadestown is that orpheus and eurydice are not the main characters. neither are persephone and hades. or hermes. or the fates. the main character is whoever in the band is playing the trombone because holy fuck
video game secret: there's clever wordplay hidden in the title of the game "nintendogs". the word "dogs" is cleverly added on to the name "nintendo" to form the word "nintendogs". this is actually a reference to the concept of "puppies"
