even though bee had performed at many festivals throughout their ten years as a group, rose still felt a fresh wave of excitement whenever they got on stage. whether it was for college festivals or k-pop oriented festivals such as the blue one resort’s, she still found getting on stage to be a fulfilling experience. she was a performer through and through. she lived for the stage, the one place where she truly felt like she could be herself. bc entertainment may have molded her into the ‘perfect idol’, they didn’t give her the love of music that flowed through her veins. that was one thing that she could say was hers and hers alone. 

being the performer that she was, she hated to give a bad show. she was known for always giving her best for every performance - live vocals, clean dancing, and great stage presence. before every show, rose could be found backstage with a mic in hand, going over the lyrics and dance moves to make sure she had them down. “loving you, you. what to do? what should i do?” she sang in front of one of the backstage mirrors, her heels clicking against the hard floor as her feet executed the dance moves. she jumped slightly when she noticed another reflection in the mirror, turning around to look the familiar face property. “duri! are you trying to get a sneak preview?” she teased.

being back in california, the place that she was born and raised for the first fourteen or so years of her life, was such a bittersweet feeling. so much things had changed, but everything was somehow still the same. as soon as they left the airport and began driving down the streets of l.a., rose was like a kid in a candy store. she pointed out all of the places she used to go to as a kid, promising her members that she would take them there if they had enough time. and if they didn’t have enough time then, she would surely find a way to have a few days long trip back to the city so they could enjoy their time there. 

they hadn’t gotten into the city until late that night, which meant their manager had sent them straight to their hotel room for the evening to rest up for the photoshoot the next day. and, of course, rose was up and at ‘em early the next morning. “come on ladies, rise and shine!” she clapped loudly when the car pulled up to the photoshoot location, trying to help hype up her members. “come on, it’s exciting, no? we’re one step closer to having another comeback.” two in the span of less than five months - that was a miracle within itself for a group that had been around for as long as they had.

as much as sophie wasn’t the baby per se of the company with both debuted idols and trainees younger than her, the girl certainly did love acting as such. it was easy when there were so many older idols, her company seniors, who were willing to treat her like a little sister, and sophie thrived under their attention. that most definitely included the older woman who sophie had been intimidated by at one point, especially with their ten years difference, but who know she saw precisely like an older sister. “ unnie, you have so many shoes, ” sophie did reckon they were comfortable enough with each other if she was allowed not only into rose’s place but also her bedroom and her closet. the girl stared at the shoes in awe. “ have you worn every single one of them? ”

like a mother taking to her children, it was quite easy for rose to develop a certain maternal bond with quite a few of her juniors, specifically those who were under bc entertainment because they were the ones that she spent the majority of her time with or saw the most frequently due to their close proximity. sophie was a member of wish, a girl group that rose had taken a liking to early on in their career. she had a soft spot for many girl groups, seeing herself in them quite a bit. her relationship with sophie was that of unnie and dongsaeng, one that she cherished. her eyebrows rose and she made a small noise of confusion in the back of her throat as she looked through her clothes on the other side of her closet. she glanced over her shoulder to look at sophie, before chuckling. “do i?” her gaze scanned the wall with shoes lining it, from the floor almost to the ceiling. “for the most part, yes. a few pairs i’m saving for the right occasion.”

hearing  about  the  place  they  were  going  to  meet  ,  it  would  be  a  pure  lie  to  say  that  she  knew  where  she  was  going.  trusting  her  manager’s  navigation  and  knowledge  of  the  city  ,  laylia  got  to  the  pre-determined  destination  with   a  slight  delay  in  time  which  she  could  only  blame  on  the  traffic.  

entering  the  cafe  ,  laylia’s  eyes  were  glued  to  the  display  and  interior  which  immediately  lifted  corners  of  her  lips.  it  wasn’t  the  work  of  art  to  impress  her  visually  but  a  bunch  of  subtle  colors  made  her  feel  cozy  ,  and  her  trance  only  finished  once  she  heard  her  name  being  called  from  across  the  room.  noticing  the  other  female  sitting  inside  already  ,  idol  rushed  towards  her  ,  spreading  her  arms  to  give  her  a  warm  hug  as  a  form  of  welcome.  

“  ah  ,  it’s  been  a  while  !  “  laylia  replied  ,  taking  off  her  face  mask.  “  no  problem  ,  love.  it’s  all  my  pleasure  !  “  she  reassured  the  other  ,  sitting  down  across  the  little  table  that  rose  have  chosen  prior  her  arrival.  “  what’s  the  plan  ?  how  are  you  doing  ?  I  need  all  the  details.  “ 

rose knew that she was on a time crunch. even though it was one of the days that she didn’t have any prior engagements or schedules, there wasn’t a lot of time for her to spend there at the gaming cafe. her manager had dropped her off and told her that he would be back in the next few hours. like always, she just bowed her head respectfully and agreed to the conditions. she was used to being told what to do and following orders after all. it had become second nature to her. 

when the decision to spend the day, or more accurately a few hours, at the gaming cafe was one that was spur of the moment. she wasn’t sure who to invite with her on her little expedition, but when she came across laylia’s contact information in her phone, she knew that she had to reach out to her. even though they knew each other well enough to have each other’s phone numbers, they still weren’t extremely close, and rose took this as her opportunity to change that. 

“it’s been way too long.” she reached out to give her arm a friendly squeeze and rub, the smile never leaving her lips. “the plan honestly is just to enjoy as much time as i’ve been given here. my manager’s supposed to be coming to pick me up at five,” she glanced at her phone, which signaled that it was just a little after noon. “i’ve been good! just finished up promotions for 2bee, and now we’re working on our next full group comeback. what about you?”

Jiah releases first solo album “Dear Me″

BEE’s Jiah has dropped her first full-length solo album! Jiah released a collaboration with Decipher’s Taejin in May, but she’s now made her official solo debut, becoming the first member of BEE to do so since their debut ten years ago.

Jiah’s debut solo album, Dear Me, sits comfortably within a selection of R&B-tinged tracks and ballads that highlight Jiah’s sweet vocals across twelve different tracks for a defining but diverse first offering from the lead vocalist’s first solo effort. The album includes features from Unity’s Jaewon on “Easy” and Knight’s Taeyong on “So It Ends?”. A number of popular idols appear in the writing credits of the album as well: Fuse’s Suji as the lyricist for “Rose” and “Skyline” as well as the composer for the latter, Silhouette’s Youngjoo as the composer of “Doobling (Knock Sir)”, “So It Ends?” and “True Lies”, Unity’s Jaewon as a partial lyricist on “Easy” with Knight’s Taeyong who also served as one of the composers and producers on the song and also has various credits on “So It Ends?”, “The Light” and “Starlight”.

The album’s promoted single is “Rose”, which also happens to be the first track on the album. “Rose” is a soulful song warning a lover to stay away to avoid the thorns of Jiah’s deceptively beautiful love. The song will be promoted solo for three weeks on music shows, and b-side track “Easy” will be staged solo for the first week of music show promotions.

rose only started training to be a rapper a little bit before bee’s debut compared to the grand scale of her time as a trainee. it was back in late 2009, around september or october, when be began her rap trainee. the funny thing is, they never planned on having her become a rapper. one of the rap trainers overheard her playing around and rapping a few western songs with other trainees. it was something that she did quite often, especially with other english speakers. the trainer thought that she sounded pretty good and decided that they wanted her to have a few lessons. it was something that rose was excited about doing. all of her training up until that point had been vocal and dance centered, more so the former because of the strength of her voice. after five years of doing the same things, it was fun to switch it up and try something new. now don’t get her wrong, she’s not a great rapper by any means. in fact, she never considered herself to be a rapper and never wanted to be considered one. but she likes the little sing-song raps she’s gotten to do throughout bee’s career, something she’s grateful to her rap training for.

acting in a drama is something that rose has always wanted to do. music is her first love, but there’s always been a part of her that wanted to be on the small screen - and one day, the big screen. she actually has gotten love calls from production companies about having cameos in their dramas. she’s even gotten love calls from production companies about co-starring or even starring in a drama, especially around the time that bee were extremely popular with the public. the last time she got an offer to act was in back in april after a successful promotional cycle for ‘i like that’. and as always, bc entertainment denied the offer for her. in fact, she didn’t even know she got an offer for it until weeks later when it randomly came up in conversation with her manager. she wants to start off small, with just a cameo appearance or a supporting role in a drama, before slowly making her way up to leading roles. she knows that it’ll be a little bit more difficult for her with the stigma of being an idol turned actor, and the fact that she’s not in her teens or twenties anymore doesn’t help either. rose is determined to make it happen one day though - she just has to push back against bc a little bit to make it happen.

the little gaming cafe wasn’t crowded, which was just what rose was looking for. she didn’t want a lot of attention drawn to her, which she knew would happen if both she and laylia went to a more crowded place. with as well known as they both were, she was certain that if they showed up in the same place, they would just be asking to be mobbed or bum-rushed by a bunch of overexcited fans. which was exactly why she chose a cafe that was a little ways away. definitely not one of the more popular ones. rose had also made the conscious decision for them to arrive their separately to lessen the chances of them being noticed. she was sitting inside, patiently waiting for the younger woman when the front door opened. her head popped up, and she immediately smiled when she spotted her friend. “laylia! over here,” she lifted her hand and waved it back and forth to grab her attention. rose removed her sunglasses, standing up so she could walk towards her. “i’m so happy you could come. you have no idea how much this means to me. i honestly could’ve come here alone, but where’s the fun in that?”

there was a lot to do around the hotel, san had to give them that. he didn’t vibe with everything but he did vibe with enough at least. like today, he was enjoying his time in the pool. he hadn’t been in there long but long enough to see a few people come and go. all the while he lounged around, until someone joined him in the pool and actually stayed for a bit. 

“how about a contest?” san said as he came up from the water, shaking his hair lightly. “how can long their breath under water the longest,” it wasn’t the most original but it was fun. “what do you think? down for it?” he was pretty sure he had it covered but mostly, san just wanted to have a little fun. 

poised with a book in hand and sunglasses setting low on the bridge of her nose, the leader of bee peered over at san when he came up from underneath the water, a look of amusement splashed across her face. she hadn’t gotten in the water the entire time she had been at poolside, which made her choice of dressing in a bathing suit moot, but she was enjoying watching other people enjoy their time frolicking about in the water with one another. 

“a contest?” her eyebrows rose, curiosity piquing just a little bit. “are you sure you want to challenge me to that?” she asked in jest, closing her book and setting it off to the side, her sunglasses quickly following suit. “they don’t call me iron lungs for nothing.” if rose was known for anything in the idol world, it was her impressive high notes, which took quite a lot of breath support and power. “you’re on.”

she probably put more effort into this than she needed too. still, it wasn’t often that jiyoo took a jewelry class. ( in fact, she never took a class like this. )  for her project, she wanted to make a matching set. a simple necklace and a pair of earrings. “hey, check this out.” jiyoo turned towards the person next to her and held out the necklace in her hands. 

“what do you think?” it was very simple and you could tell she didn’t know what she was doing but jiyoo was proud. “i’m going to try and make a pair of earring’s to match it.” would she ever wear it? she wasn’t sure. “so, what are you creating?” it wasn’t polite to just talk about herself. ( even if she could. ) 

with furrowed eyebrows, rose stared intently at the bracelet she was attempting to make; the first of four bracelets she would be trying to make, to be exact. she wanted to make something for herself and her group members. something that they all shared and was one of a kind that would be special to all of them. she was positive that the end result wouldn’t be amazing, but it was the thought that counts, right? 

her head snapped up at the sound of jiyoo’s voice, and she smiled warmly at her. “that’s so cute! can i see it?” she asked, holding out her hand to take the necklace from her. rose inspected it closely, nodding her head in approval. “are you sure you weren’t a jeweler in a past life or something?” she teased, wriggling her eyebrows at the younger girl. “i’m just making a few bracelets for me and my members.”

gardening was not an activity joohwan had engaged in before visiting his grandmother. the woman had kept a small garden behind her house, which she tended to, religiously, every morning and evening. she had invited hwan to join her, had shown him some of her tricks when he had voiced his interest – after all, at one point, joohwan had seriously considered a career in environmental science. whereas he was working towards a degree in chemistry, slowly but surely knowing that it’d take him a few years more than usual to get it, he knew it was far fetched to imagine a future where he could properly focus on that career. it didn’t bother him as hwan had long accepted that some things should definitely remain as a hobby and gardening could be one of his if he pulled through with his plan of buying a house in the near future.

he hadn’t originally wanted to attend the classes, not feeling in the mood to interact with other people, but his curiosity beat whatever antisocial thoughts that were flooding his head that day. not wanting to keep an awkward silence between him and the person standing by his side, joohwan attempted a small smile – people responded better when you didn’t look so threatening, didn’t they? “ erm, do you enjoy gardening, usually? ” what a dumb question, of course the person did otherwise they wouldn’t be attending the class.

as maternal as rose seemed to be, and actually was, she lacked a lot of the qualities that most maternal figures had. one of the biggest qualities she lacked? a green thumb. she had never been good when it came to flowers and plants - any kind of gardening, really. it never interested her growing up, so she never participated in it. growing up, she was too busy doing odd jobs and taking care of her younger sister to actually develop an interest in things like that. it also could be mentioned that she just didn’t like being outdoors. digging in dirt and possibly dealing with bugs and other insects? that wasn’t particularly high on her list of things she was dying to do. even after moving to south korea and living with her grandmother, who was an avid gardener, she still couldn’t see the appeal to all of it. alas, she found herself signing up for a gardening class. rose wasn’t really sure why she did - maybe the boredom was finally getting to her? she had never been given the opportunity to just do as she pleased, and she was overwhelmed with all of the possible options. 

she had been busy pulling her hair back and up into a ponytail when she caught sight of joohwan’s smile, one that she immediately returned back to him. “ah,” she chuckled, a little embarrassed by the question. “actually, can you keep a secret?” she leaned in a little closer to him, glancing around conspicuously. “i hate gardening,” she faked whispered, before pulling back. she let out a laugh, shaking her head. “i thought that maybe taking this class would change my mind about it.”

upon arriving at the resort, cherry was determined not to engage in any type of physical activity. it was, after all, the only actual break she’d be given in a while, considering that lucid was currently rehearsing for their tour, and god only knew what they were supposed to do after that. she just wanted to relax which was, she believed, the whole purpose of this retreat. however, cherry soon found herself getting far too bored of the relaxing. there was only so many low demand activities she could engage in before she was bored out of her mind – too used to a busier schedule, one that accounted for at least three comebacks a year, cherry didn’t know how to relax. so off to the fitness center she went, wearing the only exercising clothes she had packed in her bag, and hoping to at least be able to distract herself for a bit. upon arriving, she found she wasn’t the only person who had had that idea. “ how sad is it that with a bunch of things to do around the resort we decided the best option was to run on a treadmill? ”

like clockwork, rose found herself wandering over to the fitness center. after years of being assigned a strict dietary regime and given a daily workout plan, it had become something akin to second nature for rose to find a way to squeeze in a workout in her day. usually it was in the morning, when the gym was empty. now that she and a surplus amount of idols were inhabiting the resort for the next three days, she tried to go as early as possible. unfortunately for her plans, she ended up sleeping in pretty late and arrived there during the latter part of the morning. fortunately for her, the fitness center was mostly empty, save for a handful of other idols. she was in the midst of stretching when cherry appeared. “honestly, i’m just so used to working out on a daily basis that it feels weird when i don’t,” rose admitted, a little embarrassed.
