I never thought i'd make a comparison like this but it's crazy how s3 really reminds me of the marvel shows. Like not just the pacing being uneven and the story being at the same time rushed and boring but also the tonal inbalance with the need to undercut serious and emotional moments with forced humor or something entertaining or easy and nice, the fear of sincerity and insecurity that the audience wouldn't be appeased if you let the moment linger. The bar scene after Lestat's panic attack having almost casual tone and the weird music in the background. Louis essentially going 'so that just happened' in the park after the seance scene. So many lines like 'serving cunt has its consequences' feeling like they were written in the hopes of becoming a meme. The last scene of e6 even being loustat vs. devil's minion like some superhero team up. What happened to my show

I keep saying this but i can't get over that they destroyed their show because they were obsessed with adapting tvl. And then they didn't adapt tvl. And that they assassinated all the other characters and dynamics to prop up Lestat. And then they assassinated Lestat's character and his central relationships too. Like this is a supposed Lestat season that fails at characterizing Lestat and telling his story. They did all that for literally nothing

Anyway here is my take:

I think trying to make a movie out of The Odyssey (not the story of Odysseus, but The Odyssey as in the poem) is a bit of a doomed endeavour as the structure of The Odyssey simply does not jive with the structure of the Hollywood movie

I think you COULD make a good movie out of the odyssey but would need to engage w the fact that it's a work which veers back and forth between fantasy and realism; that it's a story told out of chronogical order; and also that it is a Trickster Hero story first and foremost. It is perhaps best done as a comedy but with the occasional shocking swerve into graphic violence.
