a thing about me is i basically never notice a wig or other kind of hairpiece in tv/movies. it has to be party city territory for me to even twig it. people will complain about characters' wigs looking bad and i will nod along but there is like a 90% chance i did not notice for a second while watching. i consider this mostly a blessing.
for real tho it feels exhausting that ive seen this whole "woman should be allowed to abstain from X beauty standard" -> "i perform X beauty standard, am i evil? do you think im evil? please forgive me i came up with a dozen excuses đ„ș" since like 2015 (and i know its been going on longer than that) like girl thats not the poiiiiint
look me in the eyes. repeat after me. "i face societal pressure to perform this beauty standard. i should not face that pressure. i conform to this standard. i am rewarded for performing to this standard. i need to respect women who do not perform this standard. this is not about whether or not i am a sinner for wearing makeup."
I do tend to be suspicious of art that really lauds and worships the idea of being an artist. Like yes, art is cool, I think it's valuable, there's a reason I make it. But let's not get overly self congratulatory here
I think it's okay to love what you do, and even celebrate that. But there's a line that gets crossed sometimes where the art goes... "unlike all of those stupid people, who just dont get it." And it's like... hey... who are you making this for, exactly?
Where is that post that's like "art is a natural human behavior just like birds make nests and spiders spin webs, and focusing on being 'good at it' is missing the point"

i didnât like that they were making a decision that, had brennan decided to actually pursue it, would have tanked the relationship with maya almost completely. it would have. they were shown a lot of mercy on that front but it made my stomach churn.
and oh my god maybe iâm just sick of it. itâs a joke it doesnât matter i know i know i knowwww but i am just SICK of it and I GET TO BE SICK OF IT.
If I was Maya and HJ said that youth v. experience thing, I would walk out too because what experience does HJ have in working against racial capitalism and colonialism. I know that wasn't her last straw but that's actually so condescending. And tone issue? how many times do you think Maya has heard that as a racially marginalized person?đ„č
She's worried about not being able to protect her loved ones from these powerful vampires in town and the other ones that will come to their aid like let's remember the power dynamics here. They invested $3.5 million from a worth of $800 millionđ§. ALSO, as an Indigenous person of colonized Turtle Island, they kind of get to be as angry as they want to. She's literally experiencing ANOTHER faction of wealthy people take up land in Purpee.
The assumptions they made about the coterie, particularly about their relationships with each other and imvolvement in Purpee was wrong. It is a reminder and lesson to better ask questions rather than assuming and acting on those assumptions. And honestly, trusting what folks are telling you. You don't have to believe it but if you have nothing but assumptions, take it as truth rather than question in the moment. Her glyph work on LaVonte was deceitful and actively sought to cause a split in the coterie and HJ and LaVonte's relationship. Like just have a conversation with the person you have a problem with instead of showing them what they most desire IN THE SPECIFIC MOMENT they receive itđ It really should have just been a one-on-one with LaVonte from the start. I understand her wanting to speak with people she felt more aligned and comfortable with but you can't learn about or have a healthy relationship with someone without connecting with them directly.
Some of HJ's dialogue options in their conversation was just not it. He was really in his Old White Man bag there like Maya even said she didn't trust him specificallyđ« . They weren't listening at several points cause HJ or Bat Child told her about the Camarilla and she still questioned why they were here. It was just a mess. Thank goodness Bat Child was theređ
I like that LaVonte spoke with her directly and was honest with her about them wanting to run shit but to do it together. It was an honest conversation and we only have one episode left but I think it sets ground for them and LaVonte to have a good working relationship (at least until they establish the colesium). I think Maya telling him about the mage attack on the credit union was a show of that working relationship.
When you've been burned as much as, and in the ways Maya has been, it can feel and be more safe for them to rely on what they have: their mage abilities. It is a challenge to trust strangers, especially when they are Worthy & Wingstreet Industriesđ. But people are complex and sometimes, learning about that complexity can change things for the better, can get busses, a fire department, and an ER working again.
All in all, I love what this season is saying directly or indirectly about relationships and organizingâš
So I was scrolling and saw this image in an article about the European heat wave,
And was like, uh, are you missing something there, buddy? Like all that red in northern Africa? Because that's a lot of red.
And I was going to give them the benefit of doubt, since I don't know much about the climate in Northern Africa, aside from Morroco and Egypt, which seem like really hot places, so you know, maybe it's normal there?
But nope, that's not the case:
