I think this panel really exemplifies why Loid has stress ulcers and Yor does not. That man has a gun. He makes the CHAK sound with it. He threatens her.
But he has zero bloodlust. These people just want their finale remade. They don't actually want to hurt anyone. Zero bloodlust? Yor doesn't even realize she's being threatened.
She can sense bloodlust, the cruise ship arc proved that. Knows shes strong enough to take out pretty much anyone who means her harm. She's not stressed because she doesn't register she's not safe. (She is. They can't hurt her and her body knows it. No need to stress.)
Meanwhile Loid is a (mostly) normal human who Would die if something went wrong. He lives on high alert at all times Because he knows one wrong move means death.
Ergo he has stress ulcers and she is living a happy moisturized life.
Calling it now, Loid's internal justification for stepping in to replace the real actor for the kiss scene is going to be, If Yor gets too flustered, I can dodge or take a hit from her. That poor man would end up in a coma.
Loid knows Yor would probably kick the guy, so he decides to disguise himself and take his place
(Or he does it out of jealously hehe)
That means Yor doesn‘t know she‘s about to kiss her hubby
But she still tries her hardest to keep calm, stay in her role and just kiss the guy
However they get interruped just before it can happen (maybe because the state security actually arrests the „terrorist“ group? Idk something like this)
Either way the kiss doesn‘t happen on set
But Yor has the revelation that she was calm enough to not kick a dude over a kiss
And that means she might be brave enough to actually give Loid that kiss
Anyway, as expected.... Yor was chosen to replace the unavailable actress.
And SHE IS SO PREEETTYYY!!!!
Anyway, love it to see that Loid and Yuri can be on the same page for several seconds here...
Before of course Yuri will go sideways and trying to complete his own goals of "making everyone knows how awesome my sister Yor is" a couple minute later 🤣🤣🤣
Also love how protective Loid is... he even deliberately recreating the scene from waaaaayyyy before.... (around chp 14-ish?)
Also..... "do not threathen my wife"..
Yessir!!! 😏😏😏
(I just hope he is genuine here 😶😶)
I mean....
He even forgot that he has to hide his professionalism in making anyone look like someone else..... if it means Yor can be off cam....👀
I hope that is NOT just "for the mission" thing.... 👀👀
He does support Yor in whatever decission she made.
And at the ending of the chapter...
Ohohohohohohooooo 🤣🤣🤣
Is it finally here??????
Will we have Jealous Loid???? 🤣🤣
Or will Yuri take place of Yor, so Yor would not have to kiss any other man?
Or will Loid jump into action and not let Yor kiss any other man???
Oh my my my..... 🤣🤣🤣 I really have no idea where Endo will go from here. 🤣🤣
Btw, that ending of the soap Opera is soooo logical that it doesn't suit any soap opera story, indeed 😏😏
Irl, of course... one would choose money. Love cannot bring you food on the table after all. But in soap operas?? All with the amnesia thingy?
Gosh... that ending really sucks 🤣🤣🤣 no wonder, rabid fans do this.
I can't believe I got faked out by the beginning of this chapter 😅 For the first few pages I was like, "Oh...they're just going about making the new ending for this movie without Loid, Yor, or Yuri being involved. Guess everyone's theories about Yor playing the actress who will get kissed won't happen..." But then the chapter ends with Yor not only getting a part, but a kiss being teased!
In all seriousness though, I like how this whole arc seems to poke fun at die-hard fans making unnecessarily huge fuses when shows/movies they like don't end the way they want (hopefully Endo isn't drawing attention to this because he intends to end SxF in an unexpected way 👀) In the real world, creators sometimes get death threats, and in this case, the fans hijack a TV station at gunpoint and force people to make a new ending.
I also like how Camilla, Martha, and Becky highlight different viewpoints from fans. Camilla sides with the majority while Becky is the opposite and found the twist ending exciting, while Martha...has her own unique opinion 😅
But back to the story at hand, Loid's way of getting out of being shown on camera was perfect! We can add "stage designer" to the list of jobs he's had in the past 😆
Yor continuing to freak out when she "accidently" shows her super strength in front of Loid...c'mon girl, he's already seen you send a guy flying with one kick and knocking out a rampaging cow - he'll be totally okay with this 😂
By the way, Bublina's name in the Japanese version is クチベッタ (kuchibetta). I'm not totally sure what it means, but I think it has to do with the fact that she can't express herself well with words: "kuchi" means "mouth" and I think "betta" means "last place/tailend."
I also loved "protective" Loid, even though the parts with Yuri were probably fake. But I would like to think the part where he tells the terrorist "stop threatening my wife" were more genuine, since there wouldn't be any other reason for him to bring attention to himself in that moment, or risk getting on their bad side.
This panel made me crack up 🤣 Can't wait to see the next conversation Yor has with Becky and Camilla after all this is over.
Speaking of Becky, Jules on Twitter brought up this great point! Becky, PLEASE!!!
So now that we know for sure that a kiss is on the table, the big question is: what will happen next? As of now, I see three possible scenarios:
Loid can't stand the idea of Yor being kissed by another man (Yuri might actually support him here) so he somehow gets himself to play the part of the guy who she kisses (gives himself a big makeover so he still stays anonymous)
The kiss with the other actor happens anyway
The kiss ends up not happening, either due to interference from Loid, Yuri, or Yor herself refusing due to not being emotionally ready to kiss anyone, or at least someone who isn't Loid
Of course, I think we shouldn't get too hyped about a potential kiss, but even if it doesn't happen, any scenario has potential to bring out deep-rooted emotions and realizations from Loid, Yor, and Yuri, ESPECIALLY jealousy from Loid being confronted with Yor getting kissed by another man right in front of him, on live TV. I'm sure he'll make up some "for the mission" excuse about why he can't let that happen, but I can't imagine bits of his real feelings not seeping through. Regardless, the next new chapter can't come soon enough 🥲
Ahem...this is starting to look a bit like protective, jealous Twilight 😏
Look at that adorable grumpy face 😍(and the fact that he says "a member of MY FAMILY)!!!
And of course, a good spy should always provoke the terrorists by yelling at them for threatening his wife 🤭
Now, after seeing all this, do you really think Twilight is going to let anyone else but him kiss his wife? No, he won't.
Not long ago, a friend asked me what I thought would happen in this chapter. Here's my answer:
💬 1 🔁 8 ❤️ 38 · Hiya, Whatsy! 👋
Iirc you're the one who analyze the "fake" vs "true" romantic moment of TwiYor? 🤔
So, what do you theori
Look, I'm still not sure whether we will get a Twiyor kiss, but I think it'll be pretty close AND I'm still pretty confident that we will get a fake and a real Twiyor moment (read about that here and here).
Here are some things I'm thinking about for the next chapter:
Twilight will NOT show his face on TV, which means that even if he takes the place of the actor, he'll probably be in disguise. So, there's a big chance their first kiss will be with him in disguise.
Yuri will probably be the one who insists on a random actor not kissing his beloved sister.
Twilight, knowing how nervous Yor gets with any public display of affection, will valiantly step in because there's no way in hell he'll let another man kiss his wife "for the mission" 😏
Which brings me to the big question:
Will we have a Twiyor Kiss or not?
Jury still out on that one. Everything points at a yes. The fact that Twilight will be in disguise is even a very good sign; it makes sense. Like I mentioned before in my previous analysis:
Endo has been hinting it for two whole years, Yor's mind goes there almost every time she shows up in the manga. Plus, the current arc takes place during a date, inside a studio where they're filming a romantic drama, and also, Yuri (who, ironically, is one of the biggest Twiyor moment instigators 😆) is present AND working with Twilight to keep Yor safe, Anya isn't there (most Twiyor moments happen when she's not there).
Everything is lining up for the Twiyor kiss (or near kiss) to be the big flashy Fake Twiyor moment, which only makes me even more excited for the REAL twiyor moment. If the fake moment is going to be this exciting, you know that the real twiyor moment ALWAYS surpasses the fake one so, I cannot even imagine what Endo will do.
Let's all be patient and sit tight. This arc is turning out to be pretty awesome, don't you think?
Yor is already in a disguise of sorts in order to "play the role" of the female character from Five Year Love Plan...
If Loid ends up playing the male character, and they end up kissing, it would actually make a lot of sense because he would be in costume, too, and the kiss could represent their growing affection for one another despite their inability to be their true selves around each other.
I actually think this is a perfect time and place for a Twiyor kiss given this reason! It isn't a declaration of love yet, but it is a symbol of their current standing with one another, which has clearly made significant progress since the beginning of the manga.
Twilight needs something permanent, he craves the safety he once had a child, he wants nothing more than to go back to that day and hug his mom his dad his friends. He wants to protect the things he has but for the longest time all he has had is himself and so that is the thing he is going to protect the most. He's not gonna let his guard down for a woman just met and the more he feels connected to her the more he's going to push her away because for vulnerability is a threat. Not just because he's a spy, he was in the army and he was homeless from the age of 6. He is traumatized and scared and that isn't gonna go away with a smile.
Yor needs relief. She needs someone or something to take the burden away from her. She is weak and volatile because what she needs the most is something- anything to take that pressure off of her even if just for a minute. and so when this beautiful kind man appears in her and offers her the peace of mind she lost all those years ago she can't help it but fall in love because that's the kind of girl she is. She doesn't just appreciate what he does for her she loves it and she is willing to do anything to keep it and no matter how hard he tries to push her away she refuses. It becomes an obsession, a insatiable craving, conflating security with love because for her those two things were always the same.
They both come to a clash when Twilight becomes just as delusional as she is. Both caught up in a lie, following the predefined script. They both forget it's all fake and it's great until they remember. Twilight instinctively tries to put distance between them and Yor can't handle that kind of rejection. It almost drives her insane she needs to protect and keep the little safety she has left in her life, she won't allow anyone or anything to get in her way.
I don't know what the fuck I am talking about this actually went somewhere completely different lmao. This was supposed to be about why they worked but half way through I diagnosed Yor with bpd and got lost in the sauce whoops.
My original point is that Twiyor works best when they're delusional. It's like getting high with you best friend, there's a risk but it's worth taking because they are there. They provide each other security, different types of security but security none the less.
Everything we know about Project Apple (and, by extension, Anya's past) thus far
thought i'd compile all of that now while endo's on break Just In Case the next chapter happens to start anya's backstory (i don't Think it will but endo likes surprising us LSDFKLFS)
important disclaimer that project apple and the organization in charge of anya's experiments have not been confirmed to be related! there's evidence that they have things in common, in particular employees, but that's our only real connection between the two thus far. still! worth looking into
more under the cut!
so, starting very strongly with the very first mention of anything related to the project: anya's introduction in chapter 1
despite her being a main character, we know very little about her past at the moment, and this little blurb at the beginning makes up a very big portion of what we know.
things to note here:
as an experiment, her name was "Test Subject 007". important to note that the notation differs between her and bond: she was Test Subject 007, bond was Subject 8, no zeroes in there;
she had been made thus by accident, the phrasing itself implying quite heavily that she was just a normal child before said accident (but this is the translation! i don't know japanese so i can't cross-reference with the raws to clarify if the phrasing changes anything, but the fanbook uses the word "gained" to describe her powers too);
because her mind-reading is an unintended consequence, that means the scientists were presumably not, at least initially, trying to achieve cognitive enhancements in humans, and were instead trying to achieve something else, whatever that might've been;
she escaped from the facility and then moved from institution to institution, looking for a family.
so, crucially, through this little introduction we learn that there is an organization, government-funded or otherwise, that is or was conducting human experiments for unknown purposes. we also learn that whatever family anya had prior to being involved in the experiments is more than likely unreachable, at least as far as she knows, and so she has settled for finding a new family to take care of her instead.
in terms of the facility itself, here we see they clearly drilled it into her that she can't ever reveal her secret (and the darn plush is there too -- in the anime it's even more emphasized, as you can see in the gif i made)
through her reminiscing though, we get our very first look at the scientists that were in charge of her! they're in the gif above but here they are in the manga too. it's so interesting that the anime actually shows their eyes behind the glasses though, fascinating choice.
the insistence on world peace is important, as it explains her own personal obsession with it and shows that it's not just because of twilight's own focus on preserving the peace. i also don't think twilight ever really talks about "world peace," only about "preserving the current peace between westalis and ostania" -- anya seems to be the only one talking about WORLD peace (even in the very first scene where either of them mention it in proximity to each other in ch 1, loid says "understanding the other party is the first step towards peace" and anya's interpretation is "understanding me makes world peace?") but take this with a grain of salt because i might be wrong! going through every single mention of peace in the story just to fact check this one little trivia fact is a bit much i think so i'm not doing it JSDFKLSD
but yes
remember mr hair strand and baldy, we'll see them again. not her though, ig she wasn't in charge of bond
now, fast-forwarding to chapter 19, we finally get a name and a premise for the experiments:
"but oana," you might say, "this is talking about animals only! how do we know it's the same project as anya's, which involved human experimentation?"
i don't think it is, is the thing! i think it's related to the experiments anya was a part of, which is evidenced by the same scientists being featured in project apple too, but there's more going on that we don't know about. there wouldn't be such adamancy on keeping the two separate in every official mention of them if they were just the same thing, imo!
back to the evidence, we learn that the project, conducted and funded by the previous ostanian regime (meaning donovan's related to it one way or another, since he was prime minister), was marked by franticness and desperation -- a prime place for accidents like anya's telepathy and bond's future vision.
we also learn that the project was sacked by the new administration and that the former test subjects ended up on the black market.
(this makes it very important, imo, to learn when anya escaped the facility vs. when the project was sacked. it's clearly no longer in function, but while we've heard nothing from them thus far, i'm willing to bet the shady dealings around the desmond group are NOT related to the war, as W.I.S.E. has been led to believe, but rather to reignite project apple. that is speculation however so i'm going to refrain from theorising much on why the desmond group is focused on acquiring pharmaceutical companies!!)
ok speculation tangent over, back on track
so, that's already a decent amount of info! but moving to chapter 22, when bond is finally home, and we finally see some familiar faces
behold! baldy and mr hair strand!
and 2 other guys we don't know but will see again in another bond flashback!
that's 2 out of the 3 scientists we've seen thus far from anya's own time as subject 007, confirming that there IS a connection between anya and bond's experiments, regardless of whatever the project anya was a part of might've been named.
this is also the chapter in which we learn that bond himself was subject 8 (or, if we take it from the fanbook, subject #8. still, diff notation from anya!)
in chapter 31, we learn an interesting tiny piece of trivia. we don't get any further info on it, but it IS mentioned as something that is known by W.I.S.E.:
ostania is rumoured to have done human experimentation! and W.I.S.E., and by extension loid, are aware of that.
do i know how them knowing may be important later? not really!
the next droplet of info we get is in chapter 40. we see that project apple had collaborators that are still functioning unhindered.
of course, born industries is only rumoured to have been involved with project apple, but regardless of whether or not they actually were, the rumour itself implies that the project likely pulled scientists from various other companies' R&D departments.
(this makes the desmond group's acquisition of glooman pharmaceuticals shadier, but anyway)
as a side note, twilight is emoting so much at just his wrong assumption that bond is seeking revenge against the scientists. imagine how he's going to react when he finds out about anya JKSDFKLFSD
and now aaaaall the way in chapter 58, we see the bald guy who anya also knows, the two scientists from bond's previous flashback, and one whole new guy!
and thus ends our current knowledge of it all!
the only other thing worth discussing is anya's knowledge of classical language
but plenty people have already discussed these scenes, especially recently, so here are some links: 1 | 2 | 3
the only thing i can add is that i'm fairly certain that classical language is a lot more likely to be latin than old english, because it's a very common language to learn in school (in europe at least, and ostania is based on east germany so it makes sense to me. i learned mandatory latin in school for a few good years too, even if i wasn't that good at it lol) and because one of the most common modern usages of latin are in medicine and science, it would make sense that she'd be better at it due to exposure.
a possibility is also that the scientists would think in latin to conceal their thoughts from her, and that's how she ended up learning so much. she's not fluent in latin, she's just well acquainted and that cicumstance would explain the how.
BUT THAT'S SPECULATIONNN
also i don't think "ANIA" is an acronym, nor do i think anya's been misspelling her own name out of lack of knowledge. "ania" is a polish diminutive of anna and an alternate transcription of Аня, so i think it's far more likely that anya isn't ostanian or westalian than it is that her name comes from an acronym.
now,
TL;DR!
what we know about project apple (and the "mysterious organization"):
project apple was funded and conducted by what appears to have been donovan's regime and, from what W.I.S.E. knows, aimed to create highly intelligent animals for military purposes;
W.I.S.E. is aware that ostania is at the very least rumoured to have dabbled in human experimentation;
the project is presumably no longer on-going, though it is likely there are efforts behind the scenes to revive it;
it is rumoured but not confirmed that project apple had collaborating companies that are still functioning perfectly fine;
the same scientists who were in charge of bond were also in charge of anya, signalling that there is a very significant connection between project apple and the "mysterious organization;"
based on what they were telling anya, they were/are very focused on "world peace";
their experimentation methods include but likely aren't limited to electrocution.
and what we (vaguely) know about anya that relates to this:
she is at the youngest, 4 years old, and at the oldest, 5 nearing 6. we don't know her real age, all we know is she definitely lied about being 6;
she is very fixated on specifically world peace while twilight is focused on peace between ostania and westalis. the scientists are the very first we see talking about this, so it's likely their fault;
she is unreasonably well acquainted with classical language;
she has escaped the facility at LEAST 1 year ago;
and, one tidbit from the fanbook (page 29): "Anya has been reading minds for as long as she can remember," implying that her memory of a life before the lab is muddy at best and absent at worst.
that's all we know that i know of!!
if you got this far, thank you for reading :D hope any of this was interesting or sparked any theories >:] have a good day!
I gotta say one of my favorite things about Spy x Family is that the show makes it abundantly clear numerous times that Yor is the most OP out of everyone by a long shot. Also it's hilarious that despite how obvious her strength is, no one ever questions it that far, they're just like hm i guess i shouldn't get on her bad side uwu
