i watched the big brother videos so you don't have to (because you really shouldn't)!

with jackass the podcast now being a thing, these videos are being talked about and i finally watched them all (started this back in april), and i really have to say that you DON'T NEED TO WATCH THESE. i absolutely hated shit, boob, and crap. number two was pretty good though, so if you decide to watch any of these, just watch that one!

i will say, the skating within these videos is actually pretty cool. i like skate videos, particularly baker and toy machine, but while those focus more on street skating, big brother has more park skating and vert tricks.

almost everything else within the videos fucking sucks though. it's definitely reminiscent of jackass, considering it came before and was made by basically the same people, but big brother is much raunchier and just plain gross (and not in a funny way).

in shit, boob, and crap, when the dudes aren't skating or filming someone skating, the videos are just filled with pervy drunken antics. baiting women to take their clothes off, pissing and shitting everywhere, harassing drag queens and other people on the street, weird photoshoots, humping each other/potentially sexually assaulting each other, and just general edginess.

i'm not saying any of this to incriminate anyone, i just found a lot of it incredibly weird and gross. i summed up my feelings on the whole series in one of my letterboxd reviews, but i'll tell it here. big brother genuinely feels like jackass's older brother who is sometimes kinda cool, maybe listens to cool music and is really good at skating, but he also only sticks around at home to perv on his younger brother's friends and supply them with drugs and alcohol.

so, i wouldn't recommend watching these videos. johnny knoxville does appear in the last three, but you can find all of his bits from the videos elsewhere (the full self defense test, him getting hit by a car, etc.). these also feature chris pontius, wee-man, steve-o, jeff termaine of course, and some other jackass crew guys, but they were usually the ones being gross and weird, or their parts weren't that cool (sorry wee-man).

also, bam margera is in like one second of crap, but if you want to see more of his skating that isn't in cky, you should check out toy machine - jump off a building. it shows him skating when he's younger (late teens?) and dico's in it as well. it also has elissa steamer, who is an amazing queer woman skater <3

did anyone else know that ryan had his own show on mtv called homewrecker? it ran for one season, eight episodes, and you can find it on the internet archive :)) it's made to look like a home renovation show, but he wrecks the rooms instead (and does pranks and stuff).
