This morning I was droping my son off at his grandparents' house. Next to their house is a large open field. As I pulled into the driveway, I noticed a doe with her fawn in the field. They were staring at my car, ears and tails up and alert.
I got out of the car and walked around to get my son from his carseat. I picked up my son and turned around finding, to my suprise, the doe and fawn still there watching me, all of ten feet away. We just... looked at each other for a few moments. Then, the doe relaxed. Her tail went down, her ears twitched, and she went back to grazing.
Call me crazy, but I truly believe this was a moment of nature and humanity communicating. We saw each other with our babies, and both understood, "I am not a threat to you, you are not a threat to me." It was a beautifully peaceful thing to experience.
