I've been seeing a good deal of discussion about Kris not telling Susie why Noelle left or what happened with her dad, and it's understandable why people frown on them for it. However, if you pay attention to how things play out, you'll realize it wasn't exactly done out of ill intent.

Aside from the fact that it would be SUPER OUT OF CHARACTER for them to not care about Rudy's health (seeing how they were literally praying for his welfare last Chapter), they weren't actually trying to stop her from seeing the Holidays! In fact, they were not only leading the way, but they were DOING SO WITHOUT OUR INPUT!

So why did they stop? Because Susie tried to investigate Asgore's shop. And so, because that would most likely lead to her discovering the code and compromising the plan/promise they'd been trying to fulfill before they even met her, Kris had to make the difficult decision to make the Dark World in hopes it would prevent her from ruining said plan/promise!

Remember, people! Kris doesn't do the wrong thing unless they feel it's for a really good reason, which has been a feature of literally every single important character in UTDR (i.e. Toriel using fire magic against Frisk to prevent them from leaving the ruins, Chara pressuring Asriel to aid their infamous buttercup, etc)!

But didn't Kris make the fountain after they already saw that Susie stepped back out of Flower King with some flowers? And based on the end of the chapter, Kris knows the shelter code is in Flowerys soil, there's no way Susie would have looked there. Not to mention Susie had no reason to look for a shelter code in Flower King at all, as she only learned that Asgore was the former police chief later from Flowery. Kris making the fountain is what led Susie back inside Flower King, and gave Flowery the opportunity to tell Susie about the codes location.

Like I could maybe see Kris initially panicking when they saw Susie enter Flower King, which is when they removed their soul, but after Susie left Flower King again, making a fountain in the shop is literally the least helpful thing Kris could do if their goal is for Susie to not find the shelter code.

One could also argue that Kris probably prepared the Flower King fountain in advance the night before chapter 5, as Kris turned over the TV and made a deal with Seth before making the fountain, which they maybe wouldn't have done if they were under time pressure (though I wouldn't say that's super strong evidence, Kris could have turned the TV over quite quickly, and their deal with Seth seemed very vague, just "help us out at any point during our adventure and I'll reward you", so it's still possible they could have done those things right before making the fountain).

Like, I agree with the other points you're making, that Kris has been shown to be concerned over Rudy's health and likely has something they consider to be a very good reason to work with the Knight, but the idea that Kris made the fountain to stop Susie from finding the police code just seems pretty illogical to me, unless I'm missing something BIG.

It's interesting how the Knight seems to only show up at night. They take both Undyne and Asgore at night.

The only time we meet them when it isn't night is at the start of the Dark Sanctuary but it is still kinda dark out.

This line from Seam at least makes way more sense now but I wonder why the Knight only appears at night. Maybe it's just so that no one sees them but maybe they can only exist in the dark or they are weaker in the light.

Okay look everyone I know seems to think I'm crazy for this but like I am so confident this is meaningful.

Back in Chapter 2, the SOUL changed its own color to yellow. We had several theories at the time, and it seemed to me consensus was that in DELTARUNE, the SOUL could just... do that.

But then we got 4 and 5:

Gerson clearly does... SOMETHING to the SOUL to change it into green, and:

Mew Mew does the same trick Muffet does to turn the SOUL purple.

And so... we really still don't have an explanation for why the SOUL turned yellow back in Neo.

And the strange thing that makes me confident this Is an important detail is this blink and you'll miss it moment in 5:

The SOUL does not change into Orange SOUL Mode.

It changes into YELLOW.

It BECOMES orange after unleashing the charge, but it STARTS as Yellow- and even as Orange, it maintains the same charge effect as Yellow... And this isn't a laziness thing- It seems to me that Orange originally had different visuals for the dash, and that it was specifically changed to be more reminiscent of Yellow's charging. So what gives?

I really don't know what this means, but, the fact that both times in this game the SOUL has changed color on its own, its been into yellow specifically, strikes me as important.

Here is my guess:

Somehow, Flowery was unable to change us into Orange directly, but he knew that we could do this- he baited the transformation by using the blue bullets, then when we turned yellow, used his illusion magic to modify Yellow into Orange; maybe he can't cause a change itself, but he can modify the change that does happen? Or, perhaps, Orange SOUL mode is somehow an extension/variation of yellow?

For some reason, the player has the innate power to call upon Yellow SOUL Mode specifically. I have, quite frankly, zero clue why we have this specific association and power, but... I think it is something we have.

My shot in the dark prediction is that at some point later in the game, in the main story, Yellow will show up.

Maybe the setup is that Kris is about to die from something and we bust out Yellow to save them. Yellow is the SOUL Mode with the most apparent immediate "upgrade" to it, and it seems to manifest under moments of danger. Maybe it's somehow a quirk of the DEVICE? In UT, it was the SOUL mode that was triggered via technology, seemingly...

I don't know. I really don't know, but I think this relation somehow matters. This moment matters. I think it matters that the SOUL can somehow turn into Yellow specifically and only yellow. Or maybe I'm just crazy... everyone seems to think I've lost it!!!!

From a game design perspective, having the soul yellow at first serves as a really effective tutorial: The player sees the blue bullets and yellow soul, tries charging up a "Big Shot", the soul turns orange and dashes forward instead, and BAM - the player understands orange soul mode.

Of course, this doesn't work on players that haven't fought Spamton Neo, but maybe Toby figured that most players would have fought him, or that this scene wouldn't be too confusing if you haven't.

I don't want to argue against the idea that the yellow soul appearance might have lore implications, but I just wanted to point out that the it has game design reasons, but of course, just because something has game design reasons doesn't mean it can't also have lore implications, especially in a game like Deltarune.

There's so many tags/comments just really trying to hedge like "you can watch and like anime, even anime with teenage characters, just don't be 'weird' about it!" or "this character is actually in her twenties!!" and like. I understand that impulse, I've certainly done that in the past. Trying to appease the pitchfork wielding mob by being like "I'm one of those GOOD anime watchers" but, here's the thing:

Even if someone is into lolicon/shotacon it does not mean they are a dangerous person or undeserving of support. it does not mean everything they do needs extreme scrutiny. I think I've technically expressed this take before, but putting this out there in preparation for Ch 5: I think one of the bigger contributing factors towards Toriel and Asgore's divorce was Asgore putting too much pressure/responsibility on Kris to serve as a witness for the Dessapearance when the memory of it was still raw. Kris and Asgore's current dynamic (or I guess lack thereof) is informed by Asgore over-compensating and giving Kris too much space and Kris feeling responsible for their father's situation

A Gearbuilding Observation

Here's something I've only come to notice because of my obsession with the numbers and stats of this game. There's something hiding in plain sight.

Consider the following four facts:

In the Weird Route we cannot get any of the puppet/cat armors. The Frayed Bowtie cannot be bought because we never get Spamton's Store, we do not get the Dealmaker, the Mannequin is unavailable for purchase.

In the Weird Route, barring glitches, you are forced into getting Puppetscarf; You cannot get Dealmaker.

Noelle refuses to wear the Shadow Mantle for unclear vaguepost reasons.

Noelle refuses to use the GoldWidow (+5DF +1 MG +1 AT) for extremely arbitrary reasons.

What this actually means is that, on the weird route, you cannot use any of the particularly strong DF/MG items on Noelle.

Specifically, there are three +5 DF armors in the game so far, but…

You don't have the Dealmaker +5 DF +5 MG, You can't use the GoldWidow +5 DF +1MG (on Noelle), You can use the TennaTie… but that nerfs Noelle's magic.

You also cannot use the Shadow Mantle on her (which will be +5 by chapter 5). You also cannot get Puppet/Cat armor, including the Frayed Bowtie, which would be good on her if the element interaction came up.

By Chapter 5 we should expect to get standard +5 DF armor that we can buy if the patterns continue... but the fact that so far both of the +5 DF armors that also boost MG are "banned" on Noelle, be it universally or by circumstance on the weird route, scares me.

If you actually think about trying to build for Noelle for, say, a really tricky weird route fight… you cannot MG/DF max.

You have to choose.

With the gear that exists right now the best you could do for MG maxxing on weird is MysticBand / Jevilstail, which is only +2 DF overall for +6 MG. (As an aside- for comparison, Dealmaker provides +5 DF +5 MG as one item. Yeah the Dealmaker is fucking broken...)

And if you wanted a DF build your best bet is probably going to be like… Two copies of the chapter 5/6 stock armor... but those presumably won't boost MG. Maybe ch5-6 has like a +4DF +1 MG armor somewhere we can use, but like…

TLDR: With how things are right now, unless we get some insane new stuff in 5-6, On the Weird Route, You won't be able to truly maximize Noelle's MG without making her extremely frail in the process.

It is possible we get more DF/MG armor in 5-6 to compensate but I kind of think that the Mysticband and Dealmaker will likely remain the king of MG boosting and I don't think we're gonna get significantly better options than, say, the RoyalPin for maximizing both. I truly do think you're gonna have to choose.

And that's scary, because that implies there's a fight later in the game with Noelle on the Weird Route that it would actually matter what your gear is.

I mean, in theory I know that Excel is based on the structure of earlier accounting technology that's been around for hundreds of years -- what do we think we did to track commerce before computers? -- but it still kind of blows my mind to, for example, look at my ancestor's journal from a whaling voyage in 1770 and see spreadsheets in the back.
