My little brother. My Ignatius. Right from the start he was different. You see, Ignatius had a gift. As a child he saw things, colours in numbers and in music. So the number one was a sky blue. Two, scarlet. And music was a myriad of colours, ripples in the air that only he could see. But for the kids at school and the nuns, and everyone else, it was a gift that had to be beaten out of him. I tried to protect Ignatius as best I could, but by 13, my parents decided a Catholic boarding school was the answer to fixing my brother's problem. After that I saw him less and less. I remember the day he graduated. I didn't recognize him. He told my proudly that he had been cured of his affliction... by God. And he didn't want to be reminded of his shameful past, especially not by me.

#i have to admit that even though i watched this show a year ago. I'm still digesting this scene.#i don't quite understand the series of events. what is to be taken literally #and is there other metaphor involved?#does he have synethesia? if so. is this something that would be discouraged and demonized like that in the world where the show takes place?#of course there's the general theme of being different. and the church being a tool of conformity and obfuscation #but when i first saw this scene i was still like. synesthesia?? really???? they did all this because of that...?#maybe different ways of looking at the world *are* demonized to that degree in some places and times. maybe I'm asking the wrong questions..#lambs of god

#see. what strikes me in this scene is Lestat's brother mocking Gabriella's serious illness #but then panicking when Lestat points the gun at his wife. and then says “she's with child” as if that's the primary reason not to kill her #not because that's his wife he cares about #but because she is the carrier of another person (a son?)#it's all very “not giving a shit about women for their own sake”#that's what I read into it anyway #tvl #iwtv s3
