I’m legitimately so tired of the Disney remakes. Like I can’t even muster up enough energy to be mad about it, I just truly do not care. There hasn’t been one remake I felt compelled to see in theaters, and only a few that I bothered to watch on Netflix. The result is always either no better or actively worse than the original, and if you like watching them that’s fine, but I’m sick to death of the argument that we need these endless remakes so that “a new generation can enjoy the stories”. What planet are you one where you can’t watch a movie more than once? The stories are readily available. I watched plenty of movies as a kid that came out before I was born, there’s literally nothing stopping you.

Also, it used to be when they made a remake they at least had the decency to remake 40+ year old films; now they’re remaking things that came out just a few decades ago and adding practically nothing.

I guess I really don’t see what the appeal is or why they make so much money. I mean I get nostalgia but if I feel nostalgic for an old movie I’ll just… watch that movie.

The never-ending remakes and sequels to long dormant franchises is specifically meant to play to nostalgia while getting people to add their kids to a fanbase. It’s essentially the perfect business strategy for Hollywood, because people will want to see what’s different or new and bring their family along to experience their childhood memories, then eventually they’ll bring their own kids a decade or two later.

For the most part, I consider the frequent remakes and sequels/prequels to be abysmal. Not only do many of these movies outright copy parts of the original, but the studios make every attempt to establish cinematic universes with them a la the MCU. I’d say the recent movie, THE Predator, is a perfect example of this. That movie was awful; an insult to the original.

I could go and on and on about my disdain for this non-stop wave of unoriginal garbage...

If anything I think there’s more of an argument to be made about the female cast specifically having way less diversity in design than the male cast. Like… Most of them have basically the same exact body type, whereas only a few of the men share a body type and have vastly more difference in proportions among them.

12 human female characters. Tracer is skinny, like a runner, Brigitte is muscular, Moira is tall, slim, and androgynous. We don’t know Ana’s body type. Mei is curvy. Zarya is muscular.

Huh. That’s exactly half. So no, it’s not “most”. And even then, you have to focus on their bodies types and ignore literally every thing else about their character designs.

Doing a basic character design exercise (like seriously this is one of the FIRST things you learn in this part of the industry) and looking at their silhouettes… Definitely at least half of the women clearly have only BARELY different body types. Even the similar body types among the men have a little bit more difference.

One of the first, most basic lessons anyone should be learning in character design is to avoid this. Yes, technically this does ignore several things about the designs, but my entire point was about body types to begin with, not clothing/equipment/color.

Also, you’ll notice in this image Sombra’s kind of cheating her way out of this by being in a different pose, and I don’t personally have the means to fix that, but I GUARANTEE you she’s not an exception here.

Notice how vibrant-echoes attempts to disingenuously explain how Blizzard evidently does not know anything about good female character design by asserting that the silhouettes depicted above are representative of what we would see in-game. Mind you all, not only is this absurd and a deceitful misrepresentation, but it’s fuckin’ hilarious imagining the characters of Overwatch running around in that bizarre pose in-game.

FFS, you can look at the blackened silhouettes and clearly see there’s ‘diversity’ in the designs. Also, it’s funny that vibrant-echoes decides to use Winston’s Primal Rage victory pose for his silhouette since he conveniently grows bigger. Ya know, just gotta stretch out this bullshit argument as much as possible. Oh, can’t forget that D.Va is typically in her mech, which makes her as big as any other tank.

Even if you strip away all the other manners to differentiate the cast and rely solely on the basic shapes you will still be able to discern who’s who because they all have distinct standing poses. Additionally, these characters aren’t two-dimensional beings. You will not always see them from the front.

The audacity to claim Blizzard doesn’t know good character design or is sexist is comical. All things said, get the fuck out of here with this bullshit.

Yet, on a 1991 comic book cover, she is shown in a seductive pose, wearing a G-string bikini, with her curves sharply accentuated.

Indian artist Shreya Arora was shocked when she saw the image.

“For Hulk, the visual representation focuses on his strength. For She-Hulk, all we see is an emphasis on sexuality,” says Arora, who grew up reading comic books.

If someone accused my S.O. (as an example) of assault “without evidence,” that still wouldn’t give him or me or anyone else a pass to automatically and immediately dismiss the accusations.

Let’s take an example of any other crime, just to remove the emotional nature of sexual assault out of the discussion for a moment.

Say the cops knocked on our door and said someone accused him of say, I dunno, robbing them.

Obviously I would be like “Um, I don’t think he’s out there robbing people…” BUT I also wouldn’t say “No, you must not investigate this accusation. Close the case immediately, because *I* know he would never rob someone and thus this is clearly someone lying in order to ruin his life!!”

Also, that very rarely happens?? Like, people do not usually randomly go around falsely accusing other people of serious crimes (even high profile people) - and so if my S.O. was being accused of such a thing, it would obviously be shocking and distressing and I would not *want* to believe it could possibly be true….but the logical part of me would still have to admit that such a serious accusation may indeed have validity. At the very least, I would understand needing to investigate it!

I’ve reach that point of both frustration and cynical humor with regards to anti-whiteness. Like damn, what’s up with you white people? No one gives a shit about whether or not these movies feature female leads. It’s not in any way revolutionary or even innovative. For fuck’s sake, we’ve had badass heroines that were far more complex and likeable. Are we simply going to forget about: Sarah Connor, Ellen Ripley, Beatrix Kiddo, Clarice Starling, Lara Croft, etc.? People didn’t go see these movies primarily, because they featured females lead, nor did they like these characters for merely being women. We love these characters, because they are compelling, complex, and have qualities that make a great protagonist. So, GTFO with your man-hating ass.

This whole talk about Russian interference is pretty funny. Every single government with the ability to do so will do so. The US has been doing it for a very long time. Hell, the US has toppled whole governments. But I’m in agreement with Voter ID, at least in the sense that general state ID or other proof of citizenship should be sufficient.
