the first month after kurama and hiei were given parole was basically botan bursting into kurama’s room at random times through the window as he does his algebra homework because she thought he was doing something dastardly

SHADES of cerulean could be caught from time to time. The slayer tried to not think much of it due to having never found its source. 

Fellow companion Kirara could sense it too, but also could never place its origins. How long were they being followed? Slayer reaches downward, silently, palming at a stone lying about. Launching it straight behind to perhaps shake up the entity lingering about them. 

“ You’ve refused to answer me in the past but I k n o w  you’re there. ” There is some malice to her tone, warning whomever this was to not tread lightly. She may be human, but Sango refused to let anyone think of her as JUST that. 

                    she’s     an     anomaly     in     itself     (     nobody     can     escape     death,     no     human,     youkai,     god     ),     yet     the     woman     before     her     stands     on     her     own     two     feet,   having     literally     dug     up     her     way     from     the    dirt     that     once     kept     her     corpse     on     the    ground.     Koenma     is     not     amused     in     the     slightest     (     the     spirit     world     works     very   much     on     protocol,     any     failure     to     fulfill     it     is     considered     catastrophic     in    keeping     the     balance     of     the     universe     ).

                 Botan    observes     her     from     behind     a     tree,     because   that     is     all     the     shinigami     can     do   (     death     spirits     cannot     induce     death,     they    only     follow     the     natural     order     of     the     universe     ),     and     still,     there’s     obvious     curiosity     in     cerulean     eyes,     the     way     someone    would     look     at     a     foreign     creature.     And     the     sharp     demand     of     the     human     woman     makes    Botan     jump     in     place,     and     it     gives     away     her     presence     immediately.

               “     wow,     you     have     sharp    reflexes     !     ”     probably     a     side   effect     of     being     revived;     Botan     wonders     if   the     slayer     could     also     sense     her   “     i     mean     you     no     harm     –     i     mean,    i     never     mean     anyone     harm.     obviously   –     have     you     seen     me?     i’m     very     nonthreatening.     ”

okay i think i have finally come to the conclusion that the closest i can pinpoint how botan would identify in human terms is as nb agender. while she doesn’t mind people seeing her as female, i don’t think shinigami have human views of gender at all??i don’t think they HAVE genders? they are spirits, grim reapers so to speak, and basically their manifested bodies might look human but they are not.

so i think the moment botan learns about how nonbinary people identify as, she would take it as her own while on earth and identify in those terms. and she would be so happy to have a term that comes somewhat close to how shinigami actually are when it comes to gender/gender identification, because they literally have little understanding of human societal constructions ( botan is actually one of the few shinigami that want to learn more about how humanity operates ).

also, do i think they have some form of genitalia? no, because they are spirits.

i need a detailed description of how yusuke, kuwabara and kurama introduced botan to their families/classmates/friends because you can just?? feel an eerie something about her. humans who are specifically sensitive to supernatural entities can sense something off about her, and she’s charming and bubbly and cute but you can just? feel something eerie. i can only imagine how strongly kuwabara’s sister must sense botan when she’ around skdlj

                    humans    speak     of     hell     as     if     they     actually     know     what     it     entails     (     that’s     what     Koenma     says,     he     seems     to     find     it     obnoxious     –     she     finds     it     funny     );     still,     when     it     comes     to     Yusuke,     she     knows    he’s     not     just     using     metaphors     this     time.     there’s     a     reason     why     they’ve     found     themselves     in     this     predicament     (     the    spirit     world     works     very     much     like     the    humans’     legal     system,     there   are     rules     to     abide,     and     consequences     to     those     who     break     them     )and     the     truth     of     the     matter     is,     she’s     a     creature     who     follows     protocol     before     anything     else.     On     the     inside,     Botan     is     very     much    panicking     at     the     possible     outcome     of     the   situation     –     follow     the     rules     or     face   punishment.     it’s     easy,     it’s     rutinary.    

                    But    in     the     face     of     Yusuke     huffing     in     annoyance,     she’s     decided     to     take     the     role    as     the     voice     of     reason     (     it     usually   comes     off     not     so     easily     to     her,     but   around     Yusuke,     it     seems     almost     a     second     nature     ).

                  “     okay,    let’s     just     calm     down.     I     mean,     yes,     we’ve     technically     broken     a     lot     of     laws     that     can     …     uh     …     get     us     in     a     real     predicament     –     ”     she     speaks     slowly,    yet     stumbles     over     her     own     words     (     a   key     sign     that     she’s     trying     her     best     to     convince     herself     instead     of    the     other     ),     “     but     i’m     sure     we   can     both     agree     that     i     can     appeal     to   lord     koenma’s     good     heart     to     get     us     a    free     pass     …     right?     ”     her     confidence     is     scattering     away,     crumbling     into     pieces,     and     yet     she     still     adds,     “     of     course     !     everything     will     be     all     right,     because     this     was     necessary     !   that’s     what     we’ll     tell     lord     koenma,     and     he’ll     see     it     that     way     –    so     what     if     we     broke     a     few     rules?     haha     –     nobody     got     seriously     hurt     !   ”     smile     is     wide,     forced,     it     stings    on     the     corners     of     her     lips     because     it’s     all     too     stretched     (     she’s     also        twisting     a     lock     of     teal     hair     with     all     too     much     emphasis     ),     “     so     don’t    panic,     yusuke     …     i     said     don’t     panic     !!!     ”

many times botan has been chastisized by her superiors for getting emotionally invested in the humans she ferries. and it’s interesting because it’s always humans -- there is just something about how fickle their lives are, yet how intensely they live them that fascinates botan. the concept that they cram so many experiences and feelings and anecdotes in just a few decades is something that interests her so much? for botan, there is no concept of time any longer, so the idea that humans have such short lived yet intense time on earth makes for a topic she can never stop thinking about.

i really need to do my meta about how botan views team urameshi individually because it’s so funny to me that she would beat someone over the head with a baseball bat for yusu.ke and kuwaba.ra and would BEAT KUR.AMA AND HIE.I OVER THE HEAD WITH THAT SAME BAT. at least at first, like, you cannot tell me it didn’t take a long, long time for her to learn to work with and trust the two of them after the crimes they’ve committed. especially because botan is a ‘follow the rules by the book’ type of creature, no matter how often she ends up breaking them.
