â i guess so. if you can find a part oâ the deck quiet enough you can hear the ocean. the oceans AMAZING, donât you think? we know more about space than the ocean - space!! â
â i think the oceanâs been my favorite thing about this trip. itâs been a while since iâve gotten to see it. wait, really ?? i didnât know that. â
âdepends on who you ask.â the musing comes softly, absently as though his mind is elsewhere ; heâs been lost in thought since the power went out and left the cruise at a standstill. âeveryone else seems to hate that it stopped the party but i donât really mind â- itâs calming somehow, donât you think?
â i donât think iâve ever really thought of the dark as calming, to be honest. itâs not scary, but itâs not calming, either ---- itâs somewhere in between, for me. â
âas long as you arenât afraid of the dark, i suppose. sure would be nice to have a little light though â youâd think with this boat being in the water all the time it could spare a few candles.â
â maybe they think the moonâs adequate lighting ---- which itâs not. there should definitely be candles. â
â well, thereâs some really negative thinking there. why think itâs not ? â
â because weâre on a ship in the middle of the sea, full of celebrities and possibly crazy fans. thereâs plenty of reason to think that it wouldnât be planned. â
â i keep waiting for the lights to come back just to realize someoneâs missing so we can have a mystery party ! â
â how would we know it was planned ? â
â are you kidding? totally! back when i was a kid, we used to play hide and seek in the neighborhood when the sun went down. it sounds childish, but you can always put twists on it. itâs also way scarier in the dark. â
â not gonna lie, hide and seek sounds pretty fun right now. itâs been years since iâve played. what twist would you put on it ? â
â i mean ---- the dark can be fun, too. right ? â
even though lachlan was interested he kept that blank expression he normally wore when talking to people. â twenty-tree minutes is a bit of a wait, did she at least have a good excuse for while she was ??â he asked promptly after. â where did you meet her at ??â
â some lame excuse, like traffic or something. i was too mad to really pay attention. â she just remembered looking like a fool waiting for her. â i met her on a dating app called âplenty of fishâ, i believe. â
â definitely sounds pretty rough,â charotte said, whisking the phone charger off the table and handing it over to june. she sat behind her computer, typing vigorously. thereâs still some extra hot water in the kettle, do you want anything? â
â it was. i think iâm gonna delete her number. â she plugs in her phone, starting to scroll through her contacts. â nah, iâm not really in a tea drinking mood. thanks, though. â

you would think, between being raised as one of hollywoodâs most known celebrities, that oliver fellows of all people would be used to seeing other celebrities and not fanboying over them â and to a degree, he is, heâs stood next to hollywoodâs biggest stars without breaking a sweat â but thereâs something about meeting someone you personally really just idolize that sends a boy into a frenzy. for oliver, one of those people was june kato; producer of avalon, former actress, tv host, literal triple threat if there ever was one. heâs been admiring her for years, and although serious drama types arenât really what heâs known for liking, you can bet your ass that hes never missed an episode of avalon and even wanted to audition for it; but in the end, he chickened out.Â
he wouldnât give up fellas after dark for the world, but chickening out of that is easily one of his biggest regrets.
when he meets her for the first time face to face, heâs in a rush; through his mind buzzes all of the things he has to get done before rehearsal at full speed but once their paths meet, his mind goes completely blank and he stops in front of her. nothing. nada. zilch. his face shows it, too, eyes wide and lips parted, all that escapes is a string of uhâs and he feels his heart beat race in his chest â he knew they were working in the same studio and had intended to slyly introduce himself, but this sort of ruins that, doesnât it. in some effort to save face, he adjusts his hair and straightens up, but his expression is a mix between excited and completely shell shocked. you can do this. be cool. âuh⊠hey! oliver, name is?â thatâs not right. abort, abort. âmy name is oliver.â
her mindâs in a million other places, and so it takes a moment to recognize him, to focus in on the person in front of her. his reaction to her is nothing new -- and sheâs sure he gets the same reaction from his fans -- but it still doesnât cease to baffle her a little. and with her move from in front of the camera to behind it, sheâs half-surprised anybody recognizes her anymore. oliver clearly does, though, and it makes her smile, temporarily forgetting just who he was involved with.Â
â yeah ---- oliver fellows, i know you. well, of you, anyway. iâm june, but you seem to have recognized me already. i love your show, by the way. â
â the one time i want to actually be nosy i get nothing.â lachlan shook his head. that was few and far between for him to actively want to know something of anyone. he reached over to grab the charger before holding it out for them to take.Â
â honestly, thatâs just bait. iâm definitely gonna complain about it. â she took the charger and plugged it into her phone, waiting for the screen to light up before speaking again. â for starters, she was 23 minutes late, and showing up late is something iâve never liked, but i let it slide. and as the date went on, i felt more and more like just an experiment to her. it just really skeeved me out. â
after a much needed vacation with his boyfriend, grayson eventually found himself at home, bored - the boyâs least favorite pastime. in order to combat this, he decided to push himself out there & go out for a coffee with himself. little did he expect to recognize the person in front of him in the coffee line. maybe he could slyly put himself in front of the other if he sparked a convo? it was worth a shot. tapping the strangerâs shoulder, he eventually stood next to them. âhey! what a coincidence.â he smirked a lilttle cheekily & softly.
her eye roll was almost instantaneous, and her annoyance was clear. it was just her luck that sheâd run into him here, of all places. â what, youâre gonna harass me in public now ? i donât have the time, iâve got a table read today. â
âthat sounds considerably worse than just âa bad dateâ but iâm going to let you have this because if the story is really as bad as iâm imagining the guilt is going to make me want to offer you some of my cheesecake and thatâs a commitment that iâm not really ready for.âÂ
â i totally understand that. but you should tell me where you got the cheesecake so i can get some ---- are those cherries on top ? i love cherries. â
â suit yourself. just know that next time i go on a bad date youâll hear none of it. â seriously, how does your battery die so quick ? â
â câmon, ce, thatâs not fair. your dates are always juicier than mine, i live for them. i breathe for them. it dies because iâm on it all the time. i should look into those new phones with the replaceable batteries, maybe thatâll help. â
