Honestly, the situation in India rn is scary and it seems like the world isn’t paying much attention to it.

For someone who doesn’t know what is going on, the government has passed two bills which are basically being used to weed out all those who do not have identification papers, proving that their ancestors had been in India in 1949. This is crazy as India is a developing country and it is only in recent years that people have become aware about the importance of registration and shit, and most of our ancestors had been poor and illiterate, so they COULDN’T have had applied for registration.

BUT, interesting point is that, of the two bills passed, one favours ONLY people belonging to specific religions to apply for citizenship. Basically, it’s similar to the situation in the USA, where illegal immigrants are being deported, but with Muslims and other religious minorities. This is being done supposedly to stop the influx of illegal immigrants from neighboring countries.

India has a long history of Islamophobia and casteism, and the present government blatantly supports it. It saddens me that the country I love, hates me and my community. Right now, protests against these acts are taking place in the country, mostly initiated by college students. They are being ruthlessly silenced by the police.

This is a call for help from India. This deserves as much coverage as a presidential debate in USA or the election results in UK, both of which had been trending recently. Please let our cries for help be heard far and wide and let it have some impact.

It’s happening in Kashmir, it’s happening in Assam, and now it’s happening in the goddamn Capital. It won’t be long before they try to shut down the internet here too to keep us quiet and make sure that no one sees the brutalities that the innocent people are suffering from the hands of the very people who are supposed to protect us.

This country does not belong to Hindus. It belongs to Indians. Don’t let them tear our country and our people apart. Please stop ignoring this and do something, raise your voice.
