SINNERS 2025, dir. Ryan Coogler
I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?
Don't become a housewife.
And if you do become a housewife, take steps to protect yourself. Make sure you’re legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partner’s assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.
If your spouse fights you on any of this, then don’t quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.
also, many women/people experience controlling behaviour and domestic violence from their partner for the first time during pregnancy. don’t risk thinking “he’s just stressed, it’ll get better when the baby comes” because it won’t. neither you and your child will ever be safe with that man. get out as early and safely as you can
GLaDOS voice: "Would you like to see some artwork I generated? I've heard from other test subjects that AI-generated artwork produces an uncanny valley response in human viewers because they can't perceive it as fully real. They've told me that it looks absolutely hideous to them, that they can't imagine anything more disgusting than AI art. But, well I've been practicing and wanted your honest opinion. Feel free to let me know how ugly you find this by ranking it on a scale from 'vomit-inducing' to 'eye-bleeding'." A robotic arm lowers from the ceiling holding a hand mirror up to Chell's face
Just found out that in the book Shane says "sometimes I do, kinda" in response to Yuna saying he hates Ilya and I have never been so thankful for a dialogue tweak in my LIFE like are u kidding me #myshane would never say he hates Ilya even as a joke while introducing him to his parents are u fucking insane
“feeling like a person again” collection
This fandom is obsessed with only bringing up Shane’s race as a negative and how it’s a barrier in his life only and the struggles he’d have because of his race. I’d like to present a fun head canon instead that isn’t just misery because a lot of us are actually grateful we’re not white. I’m a South Asian American and we have big ass family friend networks. I have family friends across the US and Canada. My mom’s friends will always be down to host me, feed me, or take me out to dinner. It would be cute if Yuna had a similar network of Japense-Canadian or American friends. Shane has aunties in most major cities he travels to. They’ll try to go to games to support Yuna’s son. He’d rather ditch the bar or club with his teammates to get a nice home cooked meal. He’s also that perfect Asian cousin who you’re always compared to. Shane’s so talented, rich, disciplined, well mannered, and handsome. Their moms always go “you’ll never be as successful as Shane Hollander if you don’t practice the piano.” “Shane Hollander listens to his mom and see how rich he is.” They think they catch a break when he comes out as gay but no, “why are you dating such a loser? go find a good and successful husband like Shane Hollander did. He’s with Ilya Rozanov!”

healthcare should not have a weight limit.
like it doesn’t matter if a person is so fat they’re immobile & have infections in their skin folds & need assistance with everything from hygiene to cooking to cleaning etc. they should still get good medical care.
the fattest person you possibly imagine still deserves medical care. it also doesn’t matter why they’re fat, even if that person got fat because all they did was eat and eat without ever exercising, they still deserve medical care.
Never ever disparage Hudson Williams's acting to me. I *saw* Shane's soul leave his body when Ilya was half a second away from explaining "fuckbuddies" to his parents. Shane was on another plane of existence, watching the conversation play out from above. Hudson said fewer than five words across that entire exchange and I felt it in my BONES.
One day this kid will come to know something that causes a sensation equivalent to the separation of the earth from its axis.

i think there is something to be said about this wave of white women made media that is so surface level with an underlying racist and/or insensitive bias and that refuses to engage with criticism. i'm talking taylor swift's the life of a showgirl, emerald fennell's wuthering heights, colleen hoover, the acotar series and booktok in general, etc. whenever you dare to raise concerns about the superficiality or the questionable writing or the treatment of poc in those pieces you get shut down with a "it's not that deep" or "let women have fun". this weaponisation of misogyny to justify slop made for mass consumption, especially considering how wide spread it is becoming, scares me quite a bit. to quote princess weekes, "the girlypopification of anti-intellectualism" is truly concerning, and i do believe it is linked to the rise of far right movements worldwide. if you refuse to engage with what you are being presented with, and exclusively consume brain smoothing content "for fun" then yeah you do become more susceptible to propaganda. it is that deep.

Cats understand "naughty". In fact I think they're the only animal who understands it. Dogs know "good" and "bad" but not Naughty. Same with theft. Cats know what theft is. They know when they are thieving and you can see it on their faces. Squirrels are thieves but they don't know that. They know "take" and "have" but they don't comprehend what it is to steal. Nor do raccoons or coyotes or any species of rodent. They may participate in theft but they are ignorant of the weight of what they do, the full meaning of it. Cats know what crime is and they do it on purpose.
“I don’t put politics in my stories” is the literary equivalent of a cishet guy going “I don’t have pronouns”
"In the same way that your heart feels and your mind thinks, you, mortal beings, are the instrument by which the universe cares. If you choose to care, then the universe cares. If you don't, then it doesn't." -- Brennan Lee Mulligan, D20, Fantasy High
