and who says poetry is dead
mira has this habit of saying "i'm just gonna close my eyes for a second."
this statement has never once meant "i'm just gonna close my eyes for a second." it means she has accidentally initiated a two-hour nap.
it doesn't matter where she is. couch, floor, car ride, rumi's shoulder. if she's comfortable for more than a minute, she's gone.
after enough years together, rumi and zoey have learned to stop asking if she's asleep. they'll hear complete silence, glance over, and immediately start debating whether they should put a blanket on her now or wait until she's fully committed to unconsciousness.

I wish more people knew how progesterone works (as a psychoactive). So I'm just gonna talk a little bit about that. Consider this a little harm reduction guide to my most-used substance. I have done doses ranging from 200mg to 4800mg and everything in between.
I will be speaking as though this is a recreational psychoactive substance. So for the purposes of this post, the breast growth? That's considered a side effect.
Reblogging this post for reach would be appreciated, as this substance is extremely common with a very specific group of people (hi, dolls. ily). And even if you're not using it recreationally, it's still good to know how a drug works and what it does to you.
Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional. This is not medical advice My sources are psychonautwiki, wikipedia, and the sources linked on those pages. As well as my own experience having experimented with and abused this substance recreationally for about a year. I won't be delving into the chemistry and pharmacology of progesterone, but information on GABAergic substances is readily available. I strongly suggest you do your own research in addition to reading this post.
Progesterone (Pregn-4-ene-3,20-dione) is a steroid with depressant effects. Progesterone itself is not psychoactive. However, the body metabolizes progesterone into a handful of GABAergic molecules (allopregnanolone, pregnanolone, isopregnanolone, epipregnanolone). This means progesterone is a prodrug for these metabolites. This happens in the liver and these metabolites are the cause of the high. Progesterone is fat soluble. So eating fatty foods before will increase the potency of progesterone significantly. From my own experimentation, I have found this to be a roughly two-fold increase in potency. Because progesterone is GABAergic, it is recommended to avoid other GABAergic substances (alcohol, benzodiazepines, opiates, gabapentinoids, etc) while using progesterone. Mixing these carries a significant risk of overdose.
Common Effects of Progesterone: Sedation, loss of motor control, pain relief, anxiety suppression, disinhibition, dizziness, euphoria, increased libido, and amnesia. These effects increase with dose. I find disinhibition, amnesia, and loss of motor control to increase significantly at higher doses, when compared to the other effects. Because progesterone is also a hormone, recreationally using progesterone can have hormonal side effects, including premenstrual syndrome.
Dosage: A common, prescribed dosage of progesterone ranges from 100mg to 400mg. A common recreational dosage will range from 200mg to over 1000mg, depending on the desired strength of the experience. 200mg is considered a "common" recreational dose, 400mg is a "strong" dose, and 600mg+ is a "heavy" dose. Dosages are dependent on the person dosing, everyone's body will react differently to substances. Start at a low dose to avoid undesirable effects. You know yourself best. Keep in mind that eating before your dose means a potentiated experience, and a higher/potentiated dose always means higher risk of undesirable effects, including overdose! While severe and fatal overdoses are uncommon with progesterone, it is still important to be cognizant of the risk. Especially when using other substances. Progesterone overdose can manifest as blacking out, respiratory depression, and/or sudden and immediate loss of consciousness (I have lost consciousness while standing up on as little as 600mg of progesterone. This led to me falling over and getting a concussion).
Tolerance: Progesterone tolerance builds very quickly When using recreationally, I have found it helpful to skip a couple days between doses. This is to allow ones tolerance to get closer to baseline, to minimize potential of an overdose, and to minimize the hormonal side effects. This is recommended with similar substances, such as gabapentin/pregabalin and benzodiazepines.
Dependence, Addiction, and Withdrawals: There are few reported cases of progesterone dependence and/or addiction. However I have found that I have become dependent on progesterone to be able to sleep (though this is partially because I use it to self medicate my insomnia). And I do consider myself to be addicted to progesterone. Withdrawal symptoms (for me) include body aches, trouble sleeping, compulsions to use, irritability, and emotional dysregulation. Skipping days when using recreationally will help minimize the potential of dependence and addiction, but the risk is never zero.
Routes of Administration (RoA): The two common RoAs are orally and rectally. These will have differing intensities, primarily due to the rectal RoA bypassing the liver to a certain degree, when compared to taking it orally. This is why people often take progesterone rectally if they want to avoid or minimize the psychoactive effects. However, the hormonal bioavailability of progesterone, when taken rectally, is higher (due to less of the molecule being metabolized in the liver). So that RoA can be desirable for those reasons.
What you can Expect: I will be talking from personal experience here. Your experiences will be different. 200mg: A typical therapeutic dose for feminizing hormone replacement therapy. I take this nightly. The effects are light, but I notice myself being more social and less anxious. I have not blacked out when using this dose. 400mg: This is my typical social dose. It allows me to be social and not anxious while still allowing me to feel confident to use other substances during these experiences. The pain relief is very noticeable at this dose and I am able to sleep very easily when not in a social setting. I find that this is where blacking out becomes a possibility for me, especially if I have eaten well. 600mg: This is where I start to avoid using other substances. Euphoria, disinhibition, and increased libido are very strong here. Blacking out is common for me at this dose 800mg: Blacking out happens quickly and I will almost certainly lose consciousness at this dose. This is not a dose I use socially for these reasons. At this dose, my tolerance the next day is extremely high and I do not get desirable effects unless I use 800mg+. The chance for blacking out remains the same even though the desirable effects are weak. 1200mg: I black out and lose consciousness within about 30 minutes of the come-up. I have used this dose to fall asleep when I am struggling with more severe insomnia. 4800mg: Full disclosure, this was a suicide attempt. However progesterone isn't great for that. I found myself conscious well into the peak of the experience, likely due to my extremely distressed state. I, surprisingly, did not black out. I believe this is because progesterone's metabolites may have a bioavailability inversely proportional to the dose (similar to gabapentin) in addition to my emotional state. Do not quote me on this, I could not find a source to back this up.
All in all, progesterone is a fun recreational substance with significant and very impactful downsides. I cannot recommend using it recreationally. However, if you choose to explore this substance in a recreational way, I hope this post helps you make a more informed decision. And please take it upon yourself to do additional research into this substance before you use.
Remember, there is no safe drug use. Only safer drug use

@ prev re: rectal administration (boofing): this is also because progesterone has reduced bioavailability when taken rectally. less of the drug is metabolized in the liver, so less of it is metabolizes into the psychoactive compounds. so you will feel resuced psychoactive effects
im also gonna use this opportunity to elaborate on the differences between rectal and oral administration, so heres something i sent to a friend who asked for additional information on this:
once again i will be speaking as though this is purely a recreational substance. eg, speaking about how to best take it as a recreational substance. so hormonal bioavailability is a side effect, though i will still touch on it
oral:
- assuming an empty stomach and an unpunctured capsule, it will take roughly 30-60 minutes for the drug to start entering your bloodstream. eating can increase the time it takes for the drug to enter your bloodstream by up to 4 hours
rectal/boofing:
- proper technique:
- - for best results, evacuate your bowels (either via bowel movement or douching). some people recommend poking a hole in the capsule (i have not tried this as the oral bioavailability is higher regardless) this helps the drug escape from the capsule faster and will, in turn, allow the drug to ender the bloodstream sooner. insert the capsule about 2-6cm past the anus (the specific depth depends on your individual biology). this is in an area called the "anal columns". these structures are mucous membranes and have a lot of bloodflow. if you push it in too far you will start to enter the intestines, at which point the bioavailability, absorbtion rate, and effects will be more similar to the oral RoA
- this RoA will allow the drug to enter your blood stream much quicker than when taken orally. potentially minutes instead of an hour. after the capsule dissolves, more of the drug is immediately entering the bloodstream, and less of it is metabolized through the liver. this means it will have reduced potency of psychoactive effects. however it will have a higher hormonal bioavailability. this will manifest as reduced psychoactive effects

Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
When we bought our car, I told Sean to let me handle it. I walked in and said "We have X for a down payment and cannot pay more than Y in monthly payments." My Y number had some leeway, but I didn't mention that.
First thing the sales guy did after I laid down the rules was turn to Sean and go, "What's your number?" And Sean said. "Oh, no, you negotiate with Gayle."
So, strike one for the sales guy. Could not divide and conquer us by implying THE MAN would not surprised at what I laid down.
Sales guy then had to confer with his manager and left us at his desk for several minutes. I have a vague recollection (this was 16 years ago) of Sean and I amusing ourselves doing bits about the other people there to look at cars. I am sure we did not give off the stressed or nervous energy they were hoping for.
Guy comes back. His first offer is fifty dollars a month more than I told him we could pay. I looked at him and said "I gave you our upper limit."
"Well, but what's another 50 bucks a month?"
"Something I can't afford."
He didn't know what to do with my open and unashamed admittal that I had a budget because my money was finite.
He went back to talk to the manager again.
It took two more rounds of "I told you what I can afford" before he finally came back 20 bucks under what I'd stated as my max.
The trick to resisting high-stress sales tactics is doing the math at home, knowing exactly what you can afford, and then walking into the room and stating that number minus 15%. Then refusing to budge from that number. Never, ever, meet then where they want. Always meet them where you want. Because at the end of the day, you can walk away and go somewhere else and say "I told the people at Z what my terms were, and they refused to work with me. Here are my terms. Meet them, and you make a sale today."
Trans Women Face More Injuries Than Cis Ones (It's Not Even Close)
A new study found that injury rates among transgender women are significantly higher than injuries among cisgender women, based on radiologi
❝Transgender women in the study group suffered 8x times as many head injuries as the controls, 36x as many facial injuries, and 5x times as many chest injuries.❞
So much for "protecting women".
For all those wondering why the title doesn't say this, it's because the study doesn't say this either.
While the cause of the injuries may be obvious, it's not technically known, and science speaks for what is known.
Some (a minority) of the trans women injured reported that it was violence, and some (a smaller minority) reported that it was intimate partner violence, but most did not report anything and the stats are just from the fact that they needed treatment and so went through the radiology department with their injuries.
Getting a lot of reblogs saying "undescribed" and "no image ID" etc, so please be aware that I did add alt text shortly after posting (it was a pain to copy on my phone so I did it on my desktop), but by then, it had already been reblogged by a couple of big blogs, so this alt-texted version is languishing, please do reblog it!
"Women are warm and nurturing and they have powerful intuitions!" is benevolent sexism. Benevolent sexism upholds misogyny by praising women for things women are "supposed" to be good at and romanticizing roles women are "supposed" to play under a patriarchal system.
Also, like, benevolent sexist stereotypes are definitely used to make those who don't fit them feel like failures as women (especially queer women/trans women/woc/neurodivergent women/etc).
And on the flip side, they're also used to deny women who are skilled at those things credit for their accomplishments. It's easy for people to dismiss an excellent childcare worker when her "~magical gender intuition makes her naturally good at it~".

In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:
Taylor Farms Earthbound Farms Little Salad Bar (Aldi) Marketside (Walmart) Kroger House Brand Target private label greens Costco salads and greens etc Trader Joe's chopped salad kits and fresh produce Fast food: McDonalds, Taco Bell, (Yum! Brands), Chipotle, Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, Olive Garden, Top Golf, Red Lobster, Burger King, etc.
This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.
We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.
"haha these alpha trad men really just have dom/sub kinks!" i know misogyny isn't real to a lot of you guys but did you know that some people just actually do genuinely think women are inferior creatures
like if you actually threw one of these trad men into the dom/sub community, he would just be a danger to a female sub because the problem isn't really with him wanting to dominate but with the the fact that he has internalized the idea that women as a whole are not deserving of respect as equals and exist to be dominated
Venezuela Earthquake Relief
I'm making this single post to link several resources and posts so it'll be easier to get.
I'm also updating every now and then with new links.
Comprehensive post with ways you can help internationally
This is a link to a post that has several donation links and links to information sources regarding the current state of the disaster.
Dona Yummy
It's a relief fund set up by Yummy, a venezuelan food delivery and taxi app. Them and other allied companies are matching 20-25% of your donation; it accepts international cards, ACH, cryptocurrency and PIX for brazilians.
You can also download the food delivery app since it isn't region locked and order food, medicine and hygiene products from the available supermarkets and farmacies in the app and deliver it to the address of your choice.
Update June 29 2026: Vicente Zavarce, founder of Yummy has posted a tweet stating how the funds are being managed. The tweet is in spanish.
Here is also proof of the funds being used for tents for the refugee camp at Parque del Este.
For more updates on how those funds are being used and other ways Yummy is helping outt during this disaster, check out Vicente Zarvace's twitter and Yummy's socials.
Update July 02 2026: After reaching over a million dollars, the donation link of Dona Yummy now has a transparency section, there you can see in real time how your donations are being used.
Dona Seguro
A webpage created by the venezuelan journalist Ernesto Fuenmayor and vouched by Estefanía León, comedian from a well known venezuelan podcast El Cuartico.
This webpage has several reputable and verified charities for international donations with proof that your donations are reaching the intended communities. This will help to ease your uncertainty of whether your donation is actually helping or not.
Why you shouldn't donate to the venezuelan Red Cross
As it is, the venezuelan red cross has been in the hands of the regime for several years and the donations made to them won't reach us at all.
It was seized by the regime on 2023 and has been under the control of the Rodríguez siblings since.
It is a very corrupt institution, if you want to donate do so at the other charities venezuelans have vouched for.
I am unaware of how other international Red Cross charities are operated, but it's preferable if you donate with the other charities that venezuelans have vouched for.
Update July 01 2026: Here's a brief video by venezuelan lawyer and historian AlexTVzla explaining how the regime took over the venezuelan Red Cross.
Donating to your local donation centers
You can also continue to donate non-perishable food, medicine, medical supplies, baby and kids products, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, clothes and personal hygiene products to your local venezuelan donation sites since those who lost everything will be in refugee camps for the forseeable future that will follow this disaster.
Internet for rescuers and earthquake victims in Venezuela
Conexión Segura Y Libre is an NGO who specializes in anti-censorship tips and free speech in Venezuela. They have shared a gofundme campaign to raise funds to continue to deploy emergency satellite internet points with generators and phone-charging stations in the hardest-hit areas to help survivors, volunteers and rescue teams stay connected.
FundaProcura
FundaProcura is a venezuelan NGO that specializes in reduced mobility assistance. They have deployed an emergency program to provide wheelchairs and mobility equipment to those who have been affected by the double earthquake, whether it is to replace damaged mobility aids or to provide them to those who recieved life-altering injuries. They have made an emergency gofundme for the disaster and they also have in their own website ways to donate.
Other ways you can help
If you're an artist, a group of venezuelan artists are working on making coloring books for the children that survived the earthquake and are staying at the refugee sites. You can contact ch1naweee on twitter throughout the week if you're interested in this project.
I get in theory why people complain about het ships or whatever, I get wanting to watch queer media I really do, but I guess where y’all lose me is like. I saw some asshole on a post about Sinners complaining it was “hetslop”—this person was specifically doing so while also claiming Remmick was a queer character and thus they were justified in caring more about him than the Black protagonists. which is a whole other disgusting can of worms that has been well addressed by others at this point. but even in the absence of that part of the argument, like, no, i actually don’t think that a hunger for queer stories is an especially good excuse to deride and dismiss a piece of landmark Black filmmaking, especially as a non-Black person. I have a post that’s been going around encouraging folks to engage with more Native stories and characters, and I had someone come onto that post saying in the tags that they’d need these stories to be queer in order to care. and I just think that, you know, sucks! like obviously as a queer Native I also want to see more of those stories too. but idk how else to put it other than to say that Black people and people of color shouldn’t have to be like you in order for you to care about our narratives and experiences. and I think some of y’all are using this disdain for heterosexuality as a cover for your unexamined racial biases. it’s not okay to be racist to people just because those people happen to be straight, and you continue to be white before you are queer.
on an even more basic level than that, also, I simply just think some of y’all NEED to learn how to interact with media and storytelling without ships and fandom in mind. like if not being able to write fic about two men kissing is genuinely going to be a dealbreaker for you I think that’s actually something you need to work on within yourself because at that point I think you’re no longer really interacting with art and themes and narrative so much as just kind of playing with toys. which is, like, fine I guess. have fun. but it wouldn’t kill you to disengage from that from time to time. especially if would allow you to actually appreciate rich and deeply moving cultural stories from communities of color that you desperately need to learn how to see as human
The problem with studying the deep ocean is that humans need light to look at things, the depths of the ocean are extremely dark, and what lives there is accustomed to spending most of its time in that darkness. So when we go down there with submersibles and turn on Big Lights to see, we invariably and dramatically alter what's going on, in the same way that it's generally difficult to observe the natural behaviors of terrestrial animals if you whip out a megaphone and shout HEY GUYS WHAT ARE YOU DOING at them first.
A humble snubnose eelpout on its way to the whale fall buffet when some nearby humans give it a quick, unintrusive study:
I put this in the comments but feel it needs a reblog- Check out some of Dr Edith Widder’s work on light in the deep sea! Among other things, she used the bioluminescence of stoplight fish to deduce wavelengths which most deep sea animals can’t perceive and used that to create light filters to be able to film with minimal disturbance! And that’s how we got 25 minutes of giant squid footage!!!!
Growing up, older folks would always get confused when I expressed familiarity with media from their childhoods and would act incredulous when I attempted to explain the concept of reruns. They'd be like "How do you, a child of this fallen era, know of Looney Tunes" and I'd be like "Because it has never not been playing on television" and this would seem to be brand new information to them

(goverment voice) we need to protect the children from pornography so our plan is to remove their eyes so they would never see something so traumatic. if you are against removing children's eyes you are basically a pedophile
