Summary: Akemi takes her first steps during movie night with the BakuSquad.
Warnings: hi! I mention that reader was pregnant and gave birth to Akemi in this part. It’s a very small line but I wanted to give warning incase some people get uncomfortable or dysphoric about that stuff.
(Y/n) stood in the door of Akemi’s nursery, watching as Katsuki dressed their daughter in a Dynamight onsie, and talked to her as he wrestled one of her chubby little arms into a sleeve.
“So, your uncles and aunt Mina are coming over tonight,” Katsuki told the baby. “We’re having a movie night and your dada is cooking Katsudon for us. Well, you get a nice, warm bottle of milk. You’re not quite ready for Katsudon yet.”
Akemi gurgled and kicked her little legs as Katsuki zipped the onsie up.
Katsuki scooped the baby up and gently cradled her to his chest. Akemi cooed and curled into her papa’s warmth. Katsuki’s body started an unconscious sway, a habit he’s had since Akemi’s birth. He swayed a little to the left an spotted (y/n) leant up against the doorframe.
“How long have you been standing there?” Katsuki asked.
“Long time,” (y/n) answered as he stepped into the room and made his way over to his family.
“Ah,” Katsuki nodded. “So you heard all that?”
“Oh, yeah,” (y/n) confirmed. “It was really cute. Good for her, too, talking to them like grownups can help their speech.”
Katsuki hummed and looked down to their daughter, who had fallen asleep against his shoulder, a little drool in the corner of her mouth.
“She got your ability to sleep, than god,” Katsuki murmured as the two of them stepped out of the room. “I don’t know what we would do if she didn’t.”
“Crash and burn,” (y/n) joked.
They headed down the hall and (y/n) stepped back into the kitchen to finish up dinner. Katsuki perched himself on a stool at the island, little Akemi curled up in his arms, and watched as (y/n) bustled about the kitchen.
“You’re going to love dadas cooking when you’re older,” Katsuki whispered to his Akemi. “I know that because I taught him everything he knows. And I’m a great cook.”
“I was good at cooking before you taught me,” (y/n) scoffed. “Don’t go claiming my talents are only because of you.”
“Then don’t go lying to our child,” Katsuki huffed. “You burnt water once, babe, you were terrible at cooking.”
“That was one time!” (Y/n) groaned. “And that was not my fault. You are a very distracting man, Bakugo Katsuki.”
“Oh, that’s my fault, is it?” Katsuki hummed as he rocked their baby.
“Yes, that is your fault,” (y/n) affirmed. “Have you looked in a mirror?”
“Every now and then,” Katsuki said with a playful shrug.
(Y/n) cracked a little smile and just as he turned back to his dinner prep, the doorbell went off. Akemi stirred awake with a little whine and Katsuki’s face dropped as he looked down to quickly soothe the babe.
“Idiots,” Katsuki grumbled as he got up. “I told them not to knock or ring.”
“She needs to eat soon, babe, it’s alright,” (y/n) told Katsuki softly. “Don’t go getting mad at them.”
Katsuki grumbled out a response that (y/n) didn’t catch before he headed over to the front door. He pulled it open and immediately had his baby taken out of his arms.
“Hello, baby!” Mina gasped as she cradled the baby close to her chest. “Oh, I missed you, Akemi.”
Mina pushed past Katsuki, kicked her shoes off, and headed into the house with the baby. Katsuki watched her go before he turned to the rest of his friends.
“Who rung the bell? You woke Akemi.”
Eijirou and Hanta were quick to point at Denki, who shrunk into himself when Katsuki’s sharp gaze found him.
“I’m sorry. Please don’t murder me.”
“(Y/n) said I couldn’t,” Katsuki told him as he stepped aside to let his friends in. “Akemi had to be up to feed anyways.”
“Oh, good,” Denki said as he perked up. “I get to live another day.”
“Mhm,” Katsumi hummed as his friends filed into the home. “How fortunate.”
Katsuki shut the front door, turned the lock, and followed everyone inside. All of his friends had quickly taken over the Bakugo home like some sort of infestation.
Mina was seated on the carpet with little Akemi, who was aggressively shaking a Deku themed rattle. Hanta and Denki had made themselves comfortable on the couch and Eijirou had taken up space at (y/n)’s side in the kitchen.
“She’s looking more and more like you each time I see her, Katsuki.” Mina grinned and reached down to gently squish the fat of Akemi’s leg. The baby squealed and pulled her leg away from Mina before she shoved it back in the woman’s direction.
“Don’t let (y/n) hear you say that,” Katsuki said as he joined Mina on the floor. Akemi gave her papa a huge grin and scooted over to him.
“Why?” Mina asked as Katsuki picked his baby up and kissed her chubby cheek.
“He grew and pushed Akemi out of his body,” Katsuki reminded Mina. “You think he appreciates being told that she looks like me?”
“But she does,” Hanta said as he glanced down at the baby. “She’s your mini.”
“Who’s whose mini?” (Y/n) asked as he popped his head out of the kitchen.
“No one. Hanta’s an idiot,” Katsuki said as he turned towards his husband. “Dinner ready?”
“Good, I’m starving,” Denki said with a pat to his stomach.
“Yeah, when are you not?” (Y/n) asked as he disappeared back inside the kitchen.
The group made themselves busy for five minutes until (y/n) carried in a tray filled with six bowls of Katsudon and a warm baby bottle. He set the tray down on the kotatsu and everyone reached for a bowl except Katsuki, who reached for the bottle.
“You don’t want to eat first, babe?” (Y/n) asked as he took a seat beside Katsuki.
“No, no. She can eat first,” Katsuki said as he adjusted Akemi and gently guided the bottle into her mouth. “She always eats first. I am very capable of heating up my food.”
The group fell into a quiet, comfortable lull as everyone ate, the TV acting as a white noise machine in the background. When Akemi finished her bottle, Katsuki burped her before he set her down on the floor and picked up his bowl.
As the group continued to eat, Katsuki watched his daughter, a soft smile on his face as the baby crawled around.
“Is she walking yet?” Kiri asked between a big bite of dinner.
“Not yet but she’s getting close,” (y/n) told the man as Akemi did a little back and forth wiggle on her hands and knees. “See? That’s her trying to get up…”
(Y/n) trailed off as he watched Akemi push herself up onto her feet. The baby wobbled a little and (y/n) reached out to hover a hand behind her.
Everyone in the room had gone still.
“Go on, Kemi,” (y/n) whispered. “You got it. You got it.”
Akemi looked back to her fathers, who both nodded in encouragement, before she turned back and took a few wobbly steps towards Mina.
“Good job, baby, keep going,” Mina gasped. She clapped and held her arms open and Akemi took a few more wobbly steps right into Mina’s open embrace.
“Good job!” Mina cheered. She lifted Akemi up and placed a quick kiss to the pudge of her cheek. “Good job. You did so good, Akemi.”
Mina placed Akemi back on the ground and faced her towards her parents. “Okay, go back to papa and dada. Go.”
Akemi gave a little wiggle before she walked back over to her parents. The group cheered her on as Akemi reached her papa and fell right into his arms. Katsuki scooped the baby up and kissed the side of her head.
“Good job, little firecracker,” Katsuki whispered. “Good job. Dada and I are so proud of you.”
“We sure are,” (y/n) grinned. He brushed a gentle hand over Akemi’s blonde tufts and watched as the baby melted.
I love when babies just melt into your embrace. It’s too cute.
