My favourite reason that people are using to defend the Obsidian situation is that Obsidian's current games are "bad", and that they "owe" microsoft a product that will succeed.

Hahahaha. Miserable cunts who only think of themselves. People like their current titles, love them even!

Oh, but you didn't like them? And it "underperformed" (aka didn't make FALLOUT levels of profit)??? Well, excuse the fuck out of me my lord!! Let's send some of their best and brightest to the gallows post haste! Let's put the leadership, and any else who remain, all in the stocks until they learn their lesson! Daddy microsoft demands recompense!

adding my five cents: Avowed drove a decent engagement for Gamepass (6 million players or something?), and Gamepass is a joke Microsoft was playing around for years and turning a blind eye that it didn't bring the money/subscribers they want.

Gamers aren't Netflix watchers. And 1 billion players per day, a new milestone by the oh so great and reasonable Asha, is impossible, but they still cling to their hopes and dreams, because these is what the shareholders want to hear and this what Satya wants to hear (after all, the need to return the money lost on Copilot is still there).

Let's not forget that it was also Microsoft who set the prices for Avowed and TOW2, and the prices were ALSO unreasonable and killed the direct sales for both titles.

And let's not forget that launching three games in a row dilutes the marketing budget. As a result, both titles never got the attention they deserved.

But people who never played them will tell you the games are lackluster, and the studio deserves the layoffs and the murder of their projects :)
