Gemstones & their meanings: 40 stones for magick and meditation
Looking for stones for your magickal toolkit? Hereâs a crash course in 40 of the most commonly available crystals and gemstones. Working with crystals can improve your personal energy, amp up your spellwork, and help you create the life you desire. This handy guide will help choose the right crystals for you, whatever your goals might be. After youâve read these crystal meanings, I encourage you to spend some time gazing at and handling your crystals. Crystals are a hands-on, eyes-on, heart-on hobby. One of the best ways to study them is to visit with them. It sounds kooky, I knowâbut many stones will tell you all about themselves if you take the time to listen. Collecting crystals is a blissful and transformative experience. Here at Grove and Grotto, our own crystal work has undeniably changed our lives for the better. But we never recommend crystal magick as a substitute for medical care. If youâre seriously ill or distressed, get qualified help before rock shopping, mmmmkay? Here they are, in alphabetical order, 40 magickal stones and their metaphysical uses:
AmazoniteÂ
Sea-green Amazonite carries all sorts of positive meanings: Serenity, creativity, and brave self-expression. It is one of the best talismans for artists and performers. It clears self-doubt and inspires love of beauty. Amazonite is found in a pale celadon hue (see picture) in Brazil, China, and Africa. The bright turquoise variety is a new discovery and comes from Madagascar.Â
Amethyst
One of the most magickal stones on Earth, Amethyst is a favorite of witches, healers, shamans and seers. Purple is a color that is seldom found in nature, and Amethyst has an exquisite vibration to match its rare hue. Amethyst is great for meditation and for managing the emotions. It calms anxiety and balances fear and excess. Amethyst gently stimulates dreams and visions, inspiring you to become your highest self. There are countless colors and shapes of Amethyst, each with slightly different properties.
Angelite
A lovely stone with a lovely name, Angelite is formed by the compression of Celestite over millions of years. (Yes, it is actually condensed heaven!) Angelite is soothing and uplifting. It is a popular choice among Angelic healers, channelers, and lightworkers. Angelite can assist in making contact with ancient guides and smoothing the way toward higher states of awareness. Donât get Angelite wetâit didnât wait all these millennia just to turn into calcite in your jacuzzi, thanks.

The Stanford prison experiment tapes were so stupid when I watched them in AP psych and so stupid when I watch this film about them. Literally they couldâve all sat and played cards and got $15 a day to tell ghost stories all day and be best friends. But masculinity and whiteness and power created this violent irrationality that positioned young ass men to be met with brutality and trauma and disrespect even when it was obviously taken too far. and it makes no sense. If someone put me in a room with Black girls and said I would get paid $90 a day (thatâs the equivalent apparently) to be a prison guard, do you know how fast Iâd be sitting with them and learning about them and exchanging Instagrams and like.. sleeping.. like what the fuck was the point of any of thatâŠ
My psych teacher introduced us to this study and literally before she showed us was like âdonât ever confuse a study based on one type of person (white men/boys) to be an example of an Everyman situation. There is strong evidence that if this was recreated with diversity, or even just with girls, that the results would have been drastically different. This is an example of bias and sexism in the medical research community.â
âOther, more subtle factors also shaped the experiment. Itâs often said that the study participants were ordinary guysâand they were, indeed, determined to be ânormalâ and healthy by a battery of tests. But they were also a self-selected group who responded to a newspaper advertisement seeking volunteers for âa psychological study of prison life.â In a 2007 study, the psychologists Thomas Carnahan and Sam McFarland asked whether that wording itself may have stacked the odds. They recreated the original ad, and then ran a separate ad omitting the phrase âprison life.â They found that the people who responded to the two ads scored differently on a set of psychological tests. Those who thought that they would be participating in a prison study had significantly higher levels of aggressiveness, authoritarianism, Machiavellianism, narcissism, and social dominance, and they scored lower on measures of empathy and altruism.â http://www.newyorker.com/science/maria-konnikova/the-real-lesson-of-the-stanford-prison-experiment
The thing about this study is that whether or not itâs generalizable to the public is debatable at best.
But itâs certainly generalizable to the population of people who tend to be drawn to prison system and law enforcement jobs because thatâs exactly the demographics that tend to show up in those positions.
Basically the only thing these tests âProvedâ is that anyone who WANTS to have a job working in a prison should immediately be disqualified from ever being allowed to work in a prison

How To Get A Job Fast As Hell
 @owenabbottâÂ
Apply to a  job, wait (1) day, then call.  Give them your first and last name. Tell them you submitted an application and that youâre very motivated to find [Enter field name] work. Let the conversation lead you wherever it takes. Be very polite. Sayâ thank you for your time, Iâll be looking forward to hearing back from you.â Rinse, repeat. This is to force them to be looking out for your application.Â
When you get to the interview, shake their hand firmly,  tell them your first and last name. Â
Describe your experiences  as â two years transcription and data entryâ if you have a desk job interview and â [however many years]  costumer service, retail and stockâ for your retail jobs. Â
Donât use job â buzz wordsâ I stg they hear them all day. Say  things like, â Iâm detail oriented and am very good at taking instruction.â  â I would like to work for a company with integrity and I feel that [ company name] would be a good fitâ
When they ask you if you have âreliable transportationâ say  YES. donât tell them what kind of transportation, just say yes. (if you donât do this, you wont get the job , Iâm telling you right now).Â
Research the company. Know what they do, why they do it, how OLD the company is. WHERE it was founded, and what kind of position youâre intending to apply for.
When they ask you â give us a situation where you had to blah blah blahâ Make one the fuck up. Make yourself sound good as hell, and like you put your companyâs needs slightly above the customerâs needs, but make the customer happy.Â
If they ask you about being outgoing, Say you âlike to focus on your work so you can concentrate on doing things rightâ (which buys you out of having to act friendly all the time)
Questions for after the interview:
1. Â Does this position offer upward mobility?
2. Do you enjoy working for the company? (if youâre not interviewing for a temp agency who will send you anywhere)
Then, shake their hand,  Ask them to repeat their name (REMEMBER THIS) say thank you for your time, wish them a nice day and leave. write their name down outside if you have to, just remember the fuck out of it.Â
AFTER your interview, send a card directed to the name of the person who interviewed you (Iâll give you them) that says âThank you for the interview, I appreciate the opportunity. have a great dayâ This shows  that you have an understanding of professionalism, and will have them thinking of you kindly (or at least remembering you) when theyâre shuffling through the choices.Â
DO NOT tell them you just moved to the city over the phone. Â In person, tell them you just moved to the city. Make it sound like the only reason you need a job is because you moved. Not because youâre desperate.Â

Some advice for dressmakers:
1. Pockets are a thing. 2. Breasts are a thing.
Leave room in your design for both.
#Iâm looking at you summer dresses #made for people with flat chests#and no material possessions they need to carry with them (via @ticktockclockwork)
Yep, this is a real problem. From a design stand point it saves fabric and time since you donât have to add any darts or pockets, and they go with the premise that a flat square shape should fit everyone without having to make much changes to the pattern (except to make it bigger or smaller). This whole one-size-fits-all mentality in fashion is so flawed, and actually impractical, it really annoys me how teachers let it slide in college and how the apparel industry continues to spew it year after year.
As someone who has breasts (DDD-H depending on what manufacturer Iâm talking to) and loves pockets, let me wholeheartedly recommend eshakti.com. I started buying dresses from them in November and I love them. They will customize necklines, hemlines, etc., for a $9.95 flat fee, they will customize to your measurements if you donât fit a standard size, and Iâve really enjoyed all my dresses from them. Most of their dresses come in sizes from XS to 6XL Feel free to message or send me an ask if you have specific questions!Â

THEY HAVE MODEST OPTIONS!!
@ ladies of Catholic Tumblr, hijab-wearing gals, sensitive-skinned or heavily-scarred individuals, or anyone who feels more comfortable with more coverage â every dress I looked at had hemline options. Be no longer confined by the drudgery of unnecessary-leggings-under-cute-skirt-thatâs-just-a-LITTLE-too-short! (Note: not all of them had options to cover all the way to ankles and wrists, but all the ones I saw had options that AT LEAST: went to the knee, covered the shoulders*, and covered cleavage.)
{Also bears mentioning that a lot of these look like theyâd be cute layering pieces. So even if you have to do a little mix-and-match to get full collarbone-to-wrist-to-ankle coverage, you can make it look like a fashion choice instead of several pieces of awkward-fitting clothing duct taped together under a trench coat.}
A lot of them also had options for different neckline shapes â which is great if youâre like me and you find that certain necklines are really unflattering, or are majorly in love with a specific neckline thatâs usually hard to find (ahem, Queen Anne & non-sleeveless-sweetheart)
I havenât ordered from them yet, so I canât speak for quality, but just scrolling through it looks amazing. Will definitely hit them up next time I need to stock up on work or dressy clothes.
[[*except one very angular dress that was structured in such a way that it wouldnât look right with sleeves â basically anything that looks like it COULD plausibly be cut longer without compromising the dressâs most basic silhouette/look/shape, you can get cut longer]]
SIGNAL BOOST!!!!!!
Reblogging for that post, as well as to say that the quality is unfailingly excellent.
MODEST OPTIONS!!! SIGN ME THE FUCK UP
b just wear the seatbelt
Mmmmmmm
I gotta naysay here. Seatbelts do a LOT of harm. Not everyone can wear one  and not everyone wants to risk it. Just among my own friends and people I know in general; 4 females had a breast cut completely or partially off due to a seat belt. 6 people had their throats cut, to an obviously non-lethal degree. 2 had their stomachâs cut open to a horrifying degree that I wonât elaborate on.
Not even counting the uncomfortably awkward belt locations for particularly large, small, fat, skinny people. Females with large breasts get the joy of holding the belt in place or adjusting it every couple seconds.
Theyâre awkward, uncomfortable, painful, and can often cause the injuries in an accident. Sometimes itâs just better to forgo the belt.
Those injuries caused by seat belts more than very likely would have been deadly had they not been wearing them. To have enough force to cut skin or cut off a breast in an accident is far more than enough to cause someone to go flying through the windshield of a car, to slam them into the steering column, or through a window resulting in deadly injuries or causing an even bigger accident for other drivers now that your body is in the road along with your crashed car. Are you really going to risk being a smear of ground meat on the pavement because your seat belt was a little uncomfortable or it might cut you? Then I got good news for you, thereâs a wide variety of devices made specifically to make seat belts more comfortable and reduce that risk.
These make it so that your seat belt wonât cut your neck, a simple sleeve of padded fabric that velcros around it, meaning you can put it anywhere on the belt.Â
This one does something similar, by readjusting the positioning of the seat belt to move it farther away from your neck and hey, helps a bit with having boobs in the way.
They even make ones for children too.
Boobs still in the way? While itâs pretty silly looking, this helps keep the seat belt in place so you donât have to keep adjusting it.
And if youâre overweight, they make seat belt extenders so you can still be safe.Â
But maybe youâre still unsure, then listen to the CDC and all of their sources.Â
âMore than half of the people killed in car crashes were not restrained at the time of the crash.1 Wearing a seat belt is the most effective way to prevent death and serious injury in a crash.Seat belt use is on the rise. Laws, education, and technology have increased seat belt use from 11% in 19812 to nearly 85% in 20103, saving hundreds of thousands of lives. â
âMost drivers and passengers killed in crashes are unrestrained. 53% of drivers and passengers killed in car crashes in 2009 were not wearing restraints.1Seat belts dramatically reduce risk of death and serious injury. Among drivers and front-seat passengers, seat belts reduce the risk of death by 45%, and cut the risk of serious injury by 50%.4Seat belts prevent drivers and passengers from being ejected during a crash. People not wearing a seat belt are 30 times more likely to be ejected from a vehicle during a crash. More than 3 out of 4 people who are ejected during a fatal crash die from their injuries.5Seat belts save thousands of lives each year, and increasing use would save thousands more. Seat belts saved almost 13,000 lives in 2009. If all drivers and passengers had worn seat belts that year, almost 4,000 more people would be alive todayâ
Or this one
â The number of those who escaped injury [by wearing a seat belt] increased by 40% and those with mild and moderate injuries decreased by 35% after seatbelt legislation. There was a significant reduction in soft tissue injuries to the head. Only whiplash injuries to the neck showed a significant increase.â
Or this
â Fifty-five percent of those killed in passenger vehicle occupant crashes in 2008 were not wearing a seat beltâŠâ
âWearing a seat belt reduces the risk of fatal injury by almost 50%. For children, the risk of fatal injury is reduced by 71% with the use of child safety seats.â
âOf those thrown completely out of a vehicle in a car crash, 75% died. Only one percent of people totally ejected from their cars had on a seat belt during the crash. Over 30% were not wearing seat belts.â
Conclusion? Wear your fucking seat belt. Tell your kids to wear their fucking seat belt. Tell your friends and family to wear their fucking seat belts. Time and time again itâs been proven that you are significantly more likely to survive a crash if youâre wearing one. Most people think theyâre uncomfortable, but when youâre in a crash it can save your life. Iâd rather be mildly injured than dead.
Wear your seat belt.
2017 and people are still trying to spread the myth that you donât need to wear a seatbelt.
People really donât wear a seatbelt????
This reminds me of a story from WW1Â
When they first introduced Helmets to the troops fighting in trenches the number of head injuries suddenly skyrocketed and people wanted to take the helmets away again.
Until they realized that the reason for this was the fact that most of these head injuries would have been fatal if it wasnât for the Helmets.
You always need to look at the bigger picture. Â
