so today a public health official guy came into my class to give a lecture on disaster awareness and he was talking about house fires and mentioned that the reason people most likely die during a house fire is because they refuse to leave their pet inside or they go back to get their pet. and right when he said this my friend immediately turned his head and looked at me and in that moment I had the most complete and genuine acceptance take over my body. I would 100% in front of my family and Jesus himself walk straight back into some raging inferno that was once my house to go get my fat cat. I nodded back
the best part of this post is reading all the tags from animal people who would also go back to save their pets. like no hesitation. walk backwards from heaven straight back into hell. someone even said they would go back for their fish. amazing
If you are a person who would walk into a blazing inferno for your animal, and your pet has free movement around the house, here’s a training exercise that could help save you both:
1) Set off your smoke alarm or play the sound on your phone (if your home has no smoke alarms, pease get some!)
2) stand BY THE FRONT DOOR to hand out treats
Do this a couple times and then keep it up NO EXCEPTIONS. Accidentally set the alarm off cooking? Treats by the door. Smoke alarm sound on TV? Treats by the door. Changing your smoke alarm batteries twice a year like you’re supposed to? Give them a test run and your pets get treats by the door.
Most dogs and cats will clue in VERY quickly that hearing that specific sound means go to the front door and wait for treats.
If there’s an emergency and even if you leave by another way, you will still know the most likely place your pet(s) is and can direct first responders to help.
You can also do this for any other kind of emergency alarm. My friend had both her cats trained to go to the front door for a tsunami siren.
My name is Maram, I am 25 years old from Gaza. I dreamed of a peaceful life, spending my life with my husband and my three children... but the war turned this dream into an impossible one 💔😭. We lived through this genocide with all its painful details and we are still suffering from it😭. We were so happy when the ceasefire was announced, and we returned to our homes in northern Gaza after being displaced for a year and a half in a tent in the south of the Gaza Strip. After repairing a small room in our destroyed house, we began to live there and start over. Unfortunately, the war came back, and it was even stronger than before 💔. Now, we have no shelter or source of income. We have used up all our savings during the war. I know I created my campaign very late, but that's because I have no other means to help my family 🙏. I am completely confident and hopeful that someone here will help us as much as they can and save my family in these tough circumstances 😔.
I know how painful and frustrating it is to start over from scratch, but I hope to get any amount for my family 🥺🙏.
My name is Maram, a Palestinian woman from Gaza. I am 26 years old and a mother of three children: Malik (8 years old), Ibrahim (6 years old
So, please, donate to my campaign, even if it's a small amount—it will have a big impact on us 🥺. May God bless you, my friend 🥰❤️.
I am Hanaa, a resident of Gaza City, specifically in the northern Gaza Strip. I am 38 years old. I live with my eight children and my husband in the Gaza Strip. Before the war on Gaza began, I was living a happy life with my children and my husband.
My name is Hanaa, I’m 41 years old, and I live in Gaza City—specifically in the northern Gaza Strip—with my husband and our eight children.
We had a monthly income that was sufficient to meet our needs and fulfill our requests. When the war on Gaza began on 10/7/2023, we lived as homeless people after our entire house was bombed at the beginning of the war. We were displaced to countless areas since the first day of the war. After more than 200 days of the war, one of my sons was martyred and two others were injured while trying to find us food to satisfy our hunger. I became fully responsible for him after my eldest son was martyred and the other two were seriously injured. My children,
my husband and I live in displacement camps. We have no other shelter. For the sake of God, help me feed my children and build a home for us. Donate to me, even if it is a little, because I need your help.
All of my friends that work at wildlife rehab centers have had to untangle animals from this stuff, or had animals brought in that died in it. This is especially nasty for small owl species.
Why would you put fake spiderwebs outside your home anyways?
Do what my family does and use them as indoor decorations, it's easier to clean up that way and it makes the living room look cool.
The classic Halloween decor can be a silent threat to furry friends if displayed unsafely.
"As autumn advances, leaves begin to fall from trees and a chill runs through the air, making it increasingly clear the spooky season is upon us. But as people decorate for Halloween, they may be setting up a trick rather than a treat for surrounding critters: That fake spider webbing commonly seen across the country every October is just as effective at trapping critters as a real web is.
Kathryn Dudeck, the wildlife director at Georgia's Chattahoochee Nature Center, told Snopes via phone that fake spider webbing, normally made out of a synthetic, fiber-like polyester, is similar to tightly woven fiberglass.
"The webbing actually adheres to the skin of a toad," she said. "For raptors and songbirds, it sticks to their feathers and then settles in between them, almost like velcro." ...
Dudeck said that animals most at risk with fake cobwebs are small birds, including hummingbirds and small owls, bats and reptiles, like toads...
The danger of fake webs doesn’t immediately go away after Halloween, either. A 2019 article from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation explains that if not properly disposed of, birds might use the material to build their nests. In a worst-case scenario, the webbing could catch and trap any chicks in the nest. The solution to all of this is fairly easy: stop using fake webs outside.
Instead, consider moving the webbing indoors, perhaps behind a window so it’s still visible. If you are set on creating a web outdoors, Dudeck recommended making one out of rope and ensuring you've left ample space between strands to mitigate the risk to wildlife."
I had a fifteen minute long crying session yesternight over the fact that all I was 10 years ago, at the ripe old age of 14, is lost and lonely, and now, at 24, I am neither and that filled me with so much gratitude
reblog to tell a teenager that these aren’t actually the best years of your life and that things can and will get better when you have independance and maybe are away from your situation right now.
Hey someone suggested I use ChatGPT to figure out adulting today, and as I was going through the mental list of places I'd rather look, I realized "beloved strangers on Tumblr dot net" was on that list.
So if you have an aspect of adulting that you're really good at-taxes, budgeting, cooking, insurance, credit, time management, house upkeep, anything-please feel free to reblog with any tips.

I think parents don't understand how punishing a child isn't for when they make you upset, it's for when they do something wrong. Like, you don't just punish them for stress relief, it's so they can learn right from wrong.
So if your kid learns, for example, that helping mom make dinner = getting in the way, but not helping = being lazy, but asking if mom needs help = being annoying and asking stupid questions, then you have basically trained a person to see the only option that doesn't lead to scolding as 'hide and don't be thought of until dinner is done'. So now what relationship is your kid going to have with cooking or cleaning or chores in general? How is that going to affect them as an adult?
If there is no right answer regarding the things that bother a parent, then your kid is going to associate those things with being punished no matter what they do. If talking during a car ride is bad and annoying, but being quiet and staring out the window is bad and disrespectful, then what are they going to do every time they're in the car with you but count every word they say? If texting is suspicious, but why don't they have friends, but going out with people is irresponsible, but why don't they ever leave their room, but their friends are all bad influences, but why did they stop hanging out with them, they were nice kids, then what are you even doing?
If playing video games is lazy, going outside is unsafe, playing is ignoring chores and doing chores is being in the way, then YOU'VE CREATED A CHILD WHO'S LEARNED THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID BEING SCOLDED IS TO DISAPPEAR WHENEVER YOU'RE IN A BAD MOOD! You've created a person who is hardwired to feel guilty no matter what they choose to do. You turned them into a confrontation ninja, who can vanish as soon as a hard conversation enters the picture. You've trained a person to disregard why rules exist and instead focus on who they can placate and suck up to in order to make the rules change. Because to them, rules and punishments are just who gets on the bosses nerves at the wrong time.
This also includes a VPN ban, and the punishment for making any of the content named in the bill accessible to a resident of the state is $100,000 and 10-20 years in prison.
This is a blatant violation of the first amendment. Like. Horrendously so.
Here's a link to the bill itself for anyone who wants to read it. It's fairly short
Do not let these milktoast muppet white men content creators convince you that we are doomed. They are selling fear and profiting off of it.
His health is failing. The cult has lost its’ momentum. The Epstein victims are actively making their case and trials will be happening, worldwide. The GOP is fighting amongst themselves about everything. Dems are winning their elections at the state and federal levels. The military is being sent to cities to then stand around and be mocked. Judges have also ruled it’s illegal for them to be sent to blue cities in the first place. Alligator Alcatraz got shut down. They’re desperate to hire people for ICE because people keep quitting. Protests are happening every week, everywhere.
We are in a very scary and chaotic time. Project 2025 is terrifying. People are being emboldened to be violent, and people are being traumatized and harmed. The country has been divided and damaged, but not beyond repair and rebuild. We will get through this, we just can’t give up and comply in advance. Don’t let the bastards get you down.
Alligator Alcatraz isn't quite shut down – a federal judge has ordered they stop any new construction, stop bringing in prisoners, and take down any temporary fencing, light fixtures, etc. The order was passed on environmental grounds, i.e. this place is bad for the ecosystem of the Everglades. There's a separate case for the prisoners' legal rights that's only just now getting its first hearing today, September 4.
OP is still right though. Everyone is fighting back against these bastards, and they will crumble to pieces in the face of it.
