I just saw the trailers for the Cats movie.

And I am not happy.

I know some people don’t like the Cats musical and that’s fine, to each their own. However, it’s one of my favorite musicals. The thing about Cats is the reason I think it does so well is because of the dancing, the song and the costumes. Altogether, it’s an enjoyable experience. 

This movie looks like complete and total garbage.

Not only does everyone look really weird but they’re giving the musical a plot and making Victoria, the white cat, the main star.

Oh boy, where do I even begin?

Cats doesn’t have a plot. It’s based off poems by T.S. Eliot.  All the names and characters come from those poems. And if it did have a plot, I would say it’s basically that the Jellicle cats come together once a year to send someone off to cat heaven. And Grizabella, the cat who sings Memory (the most famous song from the musical) is the one who gets sent. Throughout the musical, she’s shunned by the others. We don’t know why that is but like that’s a part of the musical.

So not only does adding a plot make zero sense and is probably not going to work, why did they make Victora the star? Hell, a lot of people don’t even know her name. I know her name because I love this musical.

This is going to be a trainwreck.

It`s called a langar and everyone, no matter what your religion, caste, race, age, gender, etc, is invited to come eat. Only vegetarian food is served, so regardless of dietary restrictions, anyone can eat. It was started by the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak. Langar was designed to uphold the principle of equality between all people. ~Gurneet

I have a lot of respect for the Punjabi institution of the Sikh Langar. Tens of thousands of people of all backgrounds have been fed good, fresh, complete meals every day for five hundred years, made entirely by volunteers, without a penny changing hands. Imagine that, making a serious, large-scale, sustained effort to feed people simply because people need to be fed.

Happy Birthday

Today is my 25th birthday, and it sucked. I'm hesitant to type it all out but today went from feeling a little disappointing to being made to feel like nothing but an annoyance. I got a few nice gifts, cards, and phone calls, but overall I spent most of my day feeling like an afterthought or dealing with stuff for other people. Very little celebration went on today.

To top it all off, I was getting dad's laundry out of the dryer and folding it for him since he has to head out at 3 AM, but I forgot to turn my light off when I left my room, and I guess it was shining in his face, so he slammed the door (which is what he does to communicate that you've pissed him off). I opened his door and put his freshly folded laundry on the bed and told him what it was, and he ignored me, so I just kinda quietly left and closed his door.

Happy Birthday Kadie. No one really cared to celebrate you turning 25, so I guess you just have to take the little victory, which is that you even made it to 25.

If you take anything away from this, it should be that you shouldn't be made to feel like a third class citizen on your birthday, especially by family. That isn't normal behavior and you deserve better. You shouldn't feel like you have to put yourself aside on the one day of the year that's supposed to be a celebration for you.
