I know this is about capitalism but it's also about my knees
art school is a very expensive excercise in learning that someone being good at art does not make them a good person and if someone is an asshole it also does not make their art not good by default. there is no natural connection between skill and personality.
I want everyone to see this section of a mostly unredacted judgement I’ve been reading. Mostly it’s fine, but occasionally they have to X out a word or a profit margin or something. But then I encountered paragraph of the year.
i dont care if monday sucks... tuesday cost me sixty bucks... wednesday thursday give no fucks. it's friday im a duck

“Meatless alternatives are getting so good, you should try them! I bet you wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference! In fact….”
Please
Please
Please stop trying to sneak-feed me meat alternatives.
I am willing to prepare and share a vegan meal with you, I’m willing to skip animal products in our group spaces.
Please.
Stop trying to sneak-feed me meat alternatives.
Mycoprotein is fucking cool, vat-grown meat is fucking cool, believe me I am fucking down for figuring out efficient calories and I’m interested in attempting to reduce or eliminate animal agriculture but you wouldn’t want me to sneak-feed you cricket flour, you don’t get to sneak-feed me your stuff.
I wouldn’t mind if you snuck-fed me cricket flour, actually. If cricket flour is indistinguishable from regular flour then sure, go for it.
I really don’t know what the initial gripe is about, though. The anonymous person you quote is not trying to sneak-feed you anything. They outright say “meatless alternative.” Is your problem that they may have GMOs? I genuinely have no idea what your complaint is, because you’re talking about people sneak-feeding you meatless stuff but your pics are all about GMO corn starch or whatever.
I have celiac disease and a corn allergy and a relative who wanted to try to pass off impossible burger as ground beef to prove how good meat alternatives are.
I don’t care about “gmo” and I dont care about the fact that it’s “textured protein” I care about “corn” and “wheat” and I care that people without food allergies rarely know how inescapable some of those allergens are.
“Oh, I checked the ingredients, it doesn’t have corn”
Okay but does it have maltodextrin, modified food starch, xanthan gum, caramel coloring, dextrose, or glucose syrup?
If it does have any of those things do they specifically say “from potatoes,” “from tapioca,” “from cane sugar” or “from rice”?
If it didn’t did you check the manufacturer’s website? If that didn’t say did you call the manufacturer?
Sometimes I’ll use almond or coconut flour as a replacement for wheat flour when I’m cooking. I do not try to pretend that my alternate flour chocolate chip cookies are wheat flour chocolate chip cookies because most people don’t expect to run into coconut or almond when they pick up a chocolate chip cookie. I don’t try to hand them to people, wait for them to eat a cookie, and say “hah, bet you didn’t think gluten free cookies could taste good, huh?” because if I did that to someone with a severe allergy it could kill them, but also because people should have a say in what they’re eating.
I’ve got no problem with beyond beef or impossible burger describing their products as meat alternatives, I’ve got no problem with GMOs or the fact that quorn is made out of a heavily engineered protein. That’s all very neat, actually.
But I do have a problem with people trying to sneakily serve meat alternatives without considering that doing so is shitty for a number of reasons.
Also, insect protein can cause severe reactions to people with shellfish allergies, so that’s another reason not to feed cricket flour to people without telling them.
And by severe reactions to shellfish/insect protein they mean ANAPHYLAXIS.
That’s medical speak for:
IT CAN KILL YOU.
Anaphylaxis can cause you to have difficulty breathing or stop breathing at all. It can cause a critical drop in blood pressure or send you into medical shock.
Never sneak ingredients into someone’s food. Especially if you know they have dietary restrictions, but even if you don’t know. They may not have told you.
shellfish is just ocean bugs so it makes sense.
Anyways dont poison people
While we are at it I need nonblack people to stop saying “YN” and “🥷🏾” just to get around saying antiblack racial slurs. Yes that includes that stupid shit where white people go “ooh but I said nega not-“ I don’t give a shit. You know damn well what you meant. Fuck off. It’s a insta block from me for anyone who does this shit and think it’s funny or whatever don’t pmo.
And before someone fucking says “erm are you referring to the fanfic / shipping term? How is your name offen-“ obviously no I’m not referring to that and anyone who is using it to mean “your name” types it with a slash -> (y/n) *NOT* “yn”. Like. I need nonblacks to stop randomly regurgitating aave they see or hear without knowing what it fucking means and misusing it to hell and back thinking it’s cool/ trendy/ or something worthy of mockery. It means young nigga. Stop fucking using it if you’re not black lol
People wanna pretend it was all in good fun and only got racist afterwards (if they'll even acknowledge it ever was racist) meanwhile some of the earliest TikTok making clanker jokes were skits that were just "racist dad hates his daughter's black boyfriend" only the boyfriend is a robot instead, and before that, these exact same kinds of jokes were circulating the Star Wars fandom for over a decade
They want all the "fun" of being blatantly racist and provocative, but don't want any of the reactions you'd get from someone watching you being blatantly racist
being a Bandit is pretty great. Just got a new place with a couple friends, in Doghammer Cave (long history of hammering dogs there). It's pretty nice for the area! Zero bedrooms zero bathrooms, but it's got a falling spikeball trap in the entrance and a couple big linear multipurpose rooms full of barrels. I put a couple gold coins in each barrel. Really makes it feel like home.
Our leader is Klade Doghammer (long history of hammering dogs). He's the only one of us with a name. He likes to sit in the last room (our house has a last room because it's linear) at a desk with a half-finished page of notebook about how he'll get revenge on the town someday. My best friend Female Archer Bandit said the people in the town don't even consider us human. She says if you stay a bandit long enough they kill you for money. Sometimes when she and I are alone on watch late at night I get a funny feeling in my bandit parts. I think I just heard the falling spikeball trap go off. We didn't invite anyone over today but I hope it's someone friendly. Being a bandit is pretty great.

i like when a piece of media says that an all-powerful character "sees humans as insects" because that really could mean a lot of things. maybe they view us as insignifigant and will squish us under their boot. maybe theyre actually studying and cataloguing us for their thesis paper. maybe theyre campaigning for human protection because we're an important part of their ecosystem. maybe they see a human and go "ew ew ewwwwww someone get the cup and get that FREAK out of my house." .
I find it interesting how there's a grammatical difference between how "mail" and "e-mail" are used. Like, "e-mail" is etymologically just "electronic mail", but it's a count noun while mail is a mass noun. You can say, for example, "I wrote an e-mail" but you can't say "I wrote a mail", likewise, you can say "I got a lot of mail" but you wouldn't say "I got a lot of e-mail", you'd have to say "e-mails". To count mail you have to say "pieces of mail". "There's five pieces of mail in my inbox", but "there's five emails in my inbox"
It's really interesting to me how "mail" went from a mass noun to a count noun when the e- prefix was added
