I’m working on a longer analysis of Chely Wright’s unintentional queer flagging in her earlier work when she was still solidly closeting. These two songs feel like part of the same conversation to me- the religious undertones + forbidden love are very closeted sapphic vibes imo.

Between this and Chely’s first single practically begging someone to take her man away, there’s a lot of material to work through.

Also just completely obsessed with this adaptation. Best book to screen adaptation imo, and also the best unreliable narrator execution.

I’m reading Eros the Bittersweet by Anne Carson because Marina mentioned it on the L word.

Two thoughts so far:

1- Eros sounds a lot like Arrows - is that why Cupid has arrows? Is that why Taylor Swift is the Archer?

2 - Eros is basically Greek for yearning and all of these poems about yearning feel like they belong here on shipping tumblr

Saw it pointed out that the XI in the exit sign stands out. XI roman numeral is 11. 11th letter of the alphabet is K. Lots of double exit signs. 🤔🧐

This line makes me think of Bette and Tina, but idk why. Plus, Bette is just one letter shy of Betty, solidifying the name as a lesbian name.

Bonus: the band who performs the title song for The L word is called BETTY. They also make recurring appearances in the show.

Thinking about a proposal as the single most important thing a woman can hope to achieve and reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s beautiful memoir, All the Way to the River, and these belong together.

The memoir is a gut wrenching personal story of love addiction and led me to re-read City of Girls, which yes, is a story about show girls. There’s a Betty reference and a few other things I haven’t fully explored yet.

In high school I worked at a deli with my now ex-husband, and I remember having a spirited discussion about which gender is naturally better looking. I asserted that women are always better looking and I’d rather look at a woman than a man all day any day. He said women were only artificially pretty and needed makeup to look half as good as men and in nature the male of the species are always better looking.

Anyway, we’re both gay now.

Is it actually romantic? Are we pledging allegiance to hands, teams, and exit signs?

Years ago a close friend of mine started a business with someone who turned out to be a garbage human being and really screwed her over. Anyway, after all this went down, the shady trash person did a photo shoot where she was covered in gold glitter.
