"Now I've shot so many Nazis, Daddy will have to buy me a sable coat." (From his Wikipedia article).
Neil Munro "Bunny" Roger
June 9, 1911-April 27, 1997.
Bunny Roger killed a bunch of Nazis and then invented Capri pants.
He was expelled from Oxford for his indiscrete gayness (discrete gayness being perfectly fine at Oxford and part of the curriculum until...today probably, at least like 1992?). Then, having been sent down to London, he started his own fashion business, and his first client was Vivien Leigh.
Bunny served in WWII, killing fascists in North Africa and Italy, and often wearing a mauve scarf in the field. Roger claimed that he had gone into a battle brandishing a rolled-up copy of VOGUE and commanding: "When in doubt, powder heavily!"
Roger was known in high society for his themed soirées; Diamond, Amethyst, and Flame Balls were held to celebrate his 60th, 70th, and 80th birthdays. He wore a curious plum colored catsuit with a feathered headdress at his 70th birthday ball in 1981. At his 80th, he made his entrance in a catsuit of scarlet sequins with a cape of orange organza, greeting his guests from behind a wall of fire. His parties were covered by the newspapers, including a New Year's Eve Fetish Ball where the proper upper class mixed with young guests in rubber S/M gear.
From an obituary: "Beneath his mauve mannerisms, Bunny was stalwart, frank, dependable and undeceived; to onlookers a passing peacock, to intimates, a life enhancer and exemplary friend."
From another obituary:
He served valiantly in every way.
On one hand, I am grateful once again to not really be a part of or understand the current drama(s) in the m/m world (while keeping an eye on the people who always seem to be involved in it). On the other hand, once again it makes me aware of all the writer friend groups and/or cliques that exist behind the scenes and where the divisions are in what they like/do not like.
No, I will not elaborate. But the intense drama popping up every few months seems to always be about or divided along the lines of: gatekeeping, catfishing, and identity -including genre labels, and recently, sex positions for transmasc characters. (??? I know) And all of those things really go back to identity and the money to be made from it. (If any.)
Which feels like something that ought to be explored. Or discussed. And then maybe people in the fraction of the romance market that is dedicated to queer stuff wouldn't be sniping amongst themselves so much and could instead focus on real threats (such as the deeply conservative mindset deep within romance as an industry. or fucking America's book banning Libs of TikTok hatemongering) and maybe there would be less of a "need" for weirdo catfishers, and maybe the audience would grow, and maybe even the bestsellers of the genre would change. Or something. Something nice could happen maybe. But the crab bucket is nice too, I guess. Or maybe some people are just so used to fighting that they can't function without it. What I do know is that I've found readers to be mostly lovely, and other writers to be... rarely lovely. (At least, to me. But I don't pretend to know how their cliques work)
Anyway. I scrolled through some of the drama this morning while exercising and yeah.
For those of you not aware Mercury Stardust, Point of Pride, and friends are raising funds for Trans Healthcare.
Unfortunately, some TikTok peeps are being complete transphobic bastards and are reporting the lives and getting the accounts banned. The appeals are being rejected.
This hinders getting the word out on this fundraiser.
Make sure you donate if you can or at least share the link in your circles so people are aware and hopefully the message can reach a wider audience
I just want to stay home and write trashy books but instead I got myself 2 jobs.
Why? Why have I done this?
So a free tool called GLAZE has been developed that allows artists to cloak their artwork so it can't be mimicked by AI art tools.
AI art bros are big mad about it.
Seeing as Twitter is gonna legally steal your work now, please use glaze to protect what you make.
Guys did you hear about Nightshade?
Using both Glaze and Nightshade would corrupt the generation of pictures mimicking artist AND mess with the AI's recognition of what everything is. Like it would generate a dog when you ask for a cat.
And it would be hell for AI bros to remove the cloaked pictures from their database ʕ 👀人ʔ

With your wavy locks of auburn hair and eyes of emerald green?”
Quoth the woman, “I’m Jolene”
Ok but the new pornbot acct names are kind of fun.
hey!!!! remember standing rock water protectors and the dakota access pipeline?
the massive, poorly constructed environmental risk that spat all over the Standing Rock Sioux people's treaty rights? that dug up their sacred burial sites? the one where the oil corporation who owned it bought out a private company to do a sham of an "environmental analysis" and never consulted the tribe and STILL didn't actually get approval? the one that's literally operating illegally and without proper permits right fucking now?
yeah, that.
you remember that.
surprising absolutely no one, the army corps of engineers this week (September 8, 2023) released an EIS (environmental impact statement) draft for public comment that takes into account absolutely 0 of the tribe's concerns, and in fact did not consult with them once in the process!
they're going to officially approve the pipeline.
what's the good news?
IT'S A DRAFT. YOU CAN SUBMIT PUBLIC COMMENT RIGHT NOW UNTIL NOVEMBER 13!!!
This link RIGHT HERE (https://action.lakotalaw.org/action/dapl-eis-2023) will take you to a Lakota Law Project page where they've set up a form to make it easy to submit a comment.
All you have to do is add your name, email, and zip code, and it pulls up a form with a pre-written message you can just click and submit, listing the most pressing concerns. You can also personalize it if you want, but you don't have to. This will take you two minutes. Please.
you can also access the comment information on the USACE website here, email [email protected] yourself, or call Brent Cossette, the contact for the draft, at 402-995-2716!!!
you can also donate directly to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe here.

Second image shows protesters behind a barbed wire fence being sprayed with a jet of water by a piece of heavy machinery labelled "Stutsman County Sheriff"; on the other side of the fence are cops in riot gear with shields. In the third image, a person holds up a feather to armored vehicles labelled "police" and cops in camouflage holding guns. The fourth image shows protesters holding signs reading "oil, coal, gas = climate chaos" and "water is life." End ID]
双面三异绣 shuāng miàn sān yì xiù is a new genre of suzhou double-sided embroidery. It is done on both sides, but the patterns, stitches and colors are different, hence the name 双面三异绣( literally double-sided triple difference embroidery). It enables the viewer to appreciate the image of traditional chinese embroidery art with different patterns, stitches and colors on one embroidery.

Embroidery is a high art form
Okay… but how does the fiber change colors? I’ve been doing needlework fo decades. I’ve never met any sort of embroidery floss that was a different color on the back than it was on the front. (Don’t throw variegated at me. You can see this shirt ain’t variegated.)
The stitches are smaller on one side! Ive done something similar by couching one thread with a different colored in a satin stitch worked in one direction. With silk threads being so thin, you could make long satin stitches with one color on side a, but you wouldn’t be able to see the very tiny stitches made on side b. Then you do the same thing vice versa with side b, giving you two different colors on each side
It could be more complicated, idk, I couldn’t really find tutorials for it, but that’s how I do my double sided embroideries. it doesn’t look as good but here’s how the couching method looks when it’s done!
🌙 luna and artemis ☀️ finally figured out how to make the wrong side a different color! here’s my first double sided embroidery using this m
