as a gender-fluid person assigned female at birth i struggle a lot with feeling a connection to my masculinity and the male side of the gender spectrum due to many reasons, one of which being trauma inflicted by men in my life, so it’s hard to be true to myself and allow authenticity in my gender identity. that being said one of the ways i’ve found peace with my gender is in music and poetry written by men, connecting an uncontrollable aspect of who i am that changes constantly with something that is just as integral to me but is a choice i make and one that makes me more genuine has led to so much love and contentment with who i am, it is so validating and moving.

the artist that i’ve found the most kinship with in positive and authentic masculinity is ashton irwin, specifically his newest album blood on the drums. listening to his art and pairing that with what he’s said about his lyrics and his music is so relatable on the human level but then going deeper into the aspects of a man’s life and the unique feelings and experiences is so refreshing and important. i think everyone should listen to this album and all his other work. there aren’t enough people in this world radically accepting the duality of life and embracing the constant change it throws you so finding someone that does and is putting that into their art and contribution to the world is invaluable.
