i know we all hate fantasy stories that center royal families but i do think there's something interesting about how like, the social pressures associated with the nuclear family tend to get sublimated into narratives about the royal family. The expectations of parents for children to perform highly, the pressure that children feel to their community getting exaggerated to a whole nation, the heightened gender performance and expectations, the focus on image and how a family looks to outsiders. there's a lot to unpack there when you view the royalness as a metaphor

I've seen some people say no one yelled at Robby about his panic attack and. Um. Langdon literally did. I'm not saying this as a defense of Robby it's just relevant information to understanding the story that is being told.

This is actually a very significant parallel because Langdon lashed out at Robby and held his panic attack against him because he was consumed with his own issues and scared and angry about being found out. That is exactly what Robby is doing to Samira. But Samira can't walk away the way Robby did, because she's physically trapped, which also represents how Langdon was lashing out at someone above him on the power scale and Robby is lashing out at someone he holds a lot of power over.
