look there’s a lot of gender politics takes where i disagree pretty strongly but i can at least see how you got there and respect that path. that is so not true of “every trans man has male privilege” though. thats like the flat earth of gender politics. i just can’t even fathom how you could unironically believe that. sorry

Isn't it fucking insane that so many people think that IQs are real. Like people genuinely believe you are born with one set level of intelligence that can be measured on a scale from 1 to ~200. As if intelligence wasn't extremely nuanced and completely subjective. And the fact that the majority of scientists that have advocated for IQ tests in the past have been eugenicists doesn't seem to concern anyone either

Hey kids who smoke! You are still fucking worthy of love, dignity and respect and anyone who mistreats you because of your addiction alone is a fucking cop.

There is hope for you, and hope beyond coping with smoke. Specifically, the younger you are, the safer you are to quit. Specifically, even if you cannot quit, you are not wrong. You are not evil or gross.

Smoking is a vice. Vices can be managed, cut back and replaced.

If anyone tells you go cold turkey on most drugs in a high stress period of your life if they are not causing insane self harm or harm to others, they are like a puritan and a cop who is going to inadvertently hospitalize you or give you a stress attack. Quitting cigarettes cold turkey while braving exterior stress can make your health worse should you relapse.

Consider counting cigarette intake down before quitting entirely. So you don't have intense panic attacks.

You often need to be stable to quit. It is okay when you aren't.

It’s so annoying when trans people complain about how ‘nowadays’ you don’t need dysphoria to be trans but back then it was only people who were miserable who transitioned because like. Lmao could never be me. I hope everyone who experiences even a tiny bit of discomfort in their gender adjust it as they see fit. I hope that people who just feel like it transition. I hope we make up 20% of the population one day

the truly evil part about lolcowing is that the targets are almost always people who have done something/things that are unsavory at best or objectively harmful at worst and that is used as justification to treat them however you want with no recourse whatsoever. like you suddenly have permission to dehumanize someone for what, fucking entertainment. and if anyone tells you to cool it for a minute, suddenly they're supportive of that behavior, making you effectively immune to anyone who disagrees. like apparently nobody's ever heard of disproportionate punishment

hi hi hi i just read your posts about the supergirl movie and i felt extremely similarly in regards to the "brides" as well specifically what was said about how they could be replaced with expensive vases and basically nothing at all would change. that entire subplot was basically just doing what popculture always does when discussing victims of sexual abuse, where every victim has to be silent and easy and they cant raise a fuss or be attached to their abusers, but they also cant have an opportunity to *ask* for help because the main character has to make the choice to help them out of the goodness of their heart, because anything else isnt as heroic. yk. that whole storyline frustrated me, because i understand that kara and ruthye were the main characters and it was always going to focus on them and their personal motivations more than anything, but if youre gonna include a whole sex trafficking plotline maybe develop it better. i feel like asking for a well written b plot is the bare minimum. kara and ruthye were both incredibly fascinating protagonists and i had a very good time watching it, but i can't help but feel like the entire b plot was a cop out to make the ending seem more justified (which is altered from the comic)

like. Ruthye and Kara and everything surrounding them were amazing. I genuinely almost cried, in the scene where Ruthye was talking about how she wishes it hadn’t happened. The scene where Argo detaches from the rest of the planet was horrifying, and done amazingly. The imagery of people screaming and darting through the streets and some of them being left behind? It was spine-chilling. This movie was so good when it was good, the fight scenes were epic and the music was on point and the visuals were amazing. And then when it was bad…..

It strikes me that Krem specifically took girls. Not in the gender sense, the targeting of people perceived as female makes sense bc of what he wanted them for. But it was all children, who were getting kidnapped. There’s a lot of reasons that could be in universe, it’s not a plot hole- But from a sense of, why did the writers make it that way, I have to think it’s because they sensed this plot would be insanely sexist if the victims were adult women! But because it’s children, who have largely maintained their place in people’s minds as adult’s property without consciousness of their own, it’s totally fine to use them as props like this- it’s feminist this time, because it’s a woman doing the saving, and you don’t have to worry about how the little girls have no agency because they’re children!

Like, okay. if you were going to add in that subplot, why would you not make Ruthye an escaped trafficking victim? It feels like the natural way to fix it- she can maintain her backstory of having her family decimated, she just got kidnapped after it. It ties the story tighter, makes the trafficking feel more like part of a unified narrative instead of something just dangling there. It harshens her hatred of Krem, and it solves the issue of the victims being largely faceless and voiceless. You would have to alter very little, you could keep the themes of Kara wanting to protect her from more weight- because despite how long Ruthye has had to take care of herself, she deserves people willing to shoulder her burdens for her, and she deserves to be given support and choice- like, it could have been good! I would probably still want a few more tweaks, but it would massively improve it.

And take out that godawful scene where Kara’s being #soepic and there are girls getting brutalized in the background. I genuinely don’t know what they were thinking there.
