Personally, I think having a mortgage and car payments and 2 kids at 23 is not something to brag about and certainly not something to brag about under another young adult’s account of their family being ripped apart by ICE. the comments under this post and the second comment in the screenshot really grinds my gears 😒 in some indigenous traditions (and i think the one i’m referencing in particular is from an indigenous south american group), you aren’t considered an “”adult”” til you turn 26.

someone correct me if i’m wrong if they know the cultural context i’m referencing, but i think the cycles come in thirteen. the progression from 0~13~26 all involve you gradually being nurtured by the community, finding your place amongst society, undergoing coming-of-age ceremonies and still learning from your elders and knowing how to coexist with other people in your general sphere — well past that 26 stage, too.

i truly do believe just because one person may not have “-teen” in their age, doesn’t make them any less a teen. ESPECIALLY considering those in their early twenties. i just can’t grasp my head around the folks calling lili 🌸’s behavior in her comment self-infantilization and ableism, because of the reasons i just stated above… because to me, in my understanding and cultural upbringing (i’m indigenous caribbean), lili 🌸’s behavior, emotional maturity/intelligence, and understanding of her circumstances are all very age-appropriate for her, as is similar behavior with the other people in her age-range.

like… i just turned nineteen a month ago, and if my dad got deported i’d be reacting the same way. nevermind the fact i’m an only child.
