Florida has disclosure laws that are extremely favorable to tabloid journalism and extremely hostile to human life, and that's the only reason "Florida man" is a thing, but people are so desensitized to privacy issues that they 100% believe Florida is magic and special and that weird shit can't possibly be happening around them all the time simply because they don't see it, like an infant playing peek-a-boo.
Y'know the place where some of the weirdest shit I've ever seen in my life happened? Monterey, California. But the state of California's PR department is way too smart to let y'all find out about Monterey Man.
It’s so fucked up how tiktok culture has made clout-poisoned people turn the public into content, every day I see people minding their business have their entire faces put online for thousands of likes, a couple kissing on the train, a lady dancing across a cross walk, a guy nodding his head to the music at a club, a lady buying a banana at the store, ring camera footage of the neighbors kids being stupid. Just let people live jfc
I think I may have made it seem like this is about wholesome content (which my sentiment towards that is the same) but most of the time when I see this stuff people are being ridiculed for being completely normal. And I didn’t make up any of these examples btw, I couldn’t find the dance one but only because there are too many videos of people being recorded at cross walks
(Faces censored and additional text added by me)
Im gonna add this to every post about this i see im never gonna shut up about it. This will get people killed. This will ruin lives. More people live in hiding than you think. So many people are one post away from having to abandon their whole lives. Dont ever post anything of anyone without their consent, stranger or not.
hey so tumblr just added this thing (community labels) and by default ALL these category filters are set to remove anything labelled with these from your feed entirely (not just blurred).
Please remember to go into your settings and adjust them to what you prefer! if you're under 18, you won't be able to adjust them as they are set to Hide until you turn 18
this is what it looks like in settings (i have everything set to Show, the default is Hidden)
Sadly not.
I found this really important tiktok about what to do if a Jehovah's Witness or Morman missionary comes to your door:
I spent some time in a Jehovah's Witness church. They're exceptionally skilled at recruiting people into their church. (And I was an ATHEIST)
I left after a couple months, I stayed just long enough to see that they explicitly believe women are inferior to men, and of course, that homosexuality is a sin on par with murder.
The whole missionary door to door thing is NOT how Jehovah's Witnesses recruit. That is how they convince their members that the world is out to get them. One of the first things they teach is that Jesus requires you to try to convert non Christians to the faith. (They say non Christian but mean non JW.)
Then they say, "look how people treat us, just for the crime of wanting to save their soul"
They have long time church members tutor the incoming members to smooth the process over. They're trained to smooth away any doubts you may have about the church.
It is a textbook cult but because it's a Christian cult, nobody will do anything about it.
I just wanted to share, in case no one realizes how messed up JW can be, my family only left after the elders followed around my teenage aunts and other young women to "ensure they weren't sinning" and my great-grandparents STILL stayed!
Exmormon here, this is TRUE, to reiterate from satanslover above, “The whole missionary door to door thing is NOT how Jehovah's Witnesses recruit. That is how they convince their members that the world is out to get them.”
The same is true of mormonism. I know how annoying the missionaries are, but please take just ten seconds to be polite to them instead, please support cult victims 💖💖

One of the most warmly human things I’ve ever seen was an old parchment from the Irish middle ages, the scribe’s cat had walked across the page and left inky pawprints on the page.
FOUND IT!!!
Oh, here’s another:
It would appear that Asian scribes were also plagued by feline predations:
Anyone want to start 2021 with a game? Reblog and put in the tags what animal you think this is:
[The Hague, KB, 76 E 4 fol.67v]
Congratulations to everyone who guessed hippo! You are correct & should probably add medieval animal identification to your resumés if it isn’t there already. Also congratulations to everyone who said it was “a friend,” because I can’t argue with that.
Here’s what some of the other popular responses actually look like in this manuscript (a 15th c. copy of Jacob van Maerlant’s Der naturen bloeme):
Elephant
Seal & sea cow (elephant seal was by far the most common guess, but manuscripts don’t usually get that granular re: pinniped taxonomy so these will have to do)
Narwal
Non-specific whale
Sea horse
& crocodile 🙃
Bro we are stuck here for ever why don’t we just take care of each other like we’re supposed to
patient: so the symptoms I've been having are—
doctor:
God I wish that were me. Literally every single person in my family has a thyroid disease and my doctor still claims my symptoms are "just anxiety" and refuses to test me
turns out doctors will test your thyroid if you have literally anything except a thyroid problem
You guys know you can switch doctors or demand that they indicate in your chart that they are refusing to test you, right?
I spent my entire adolescence going around to over 30 different absolutely clueless specialists more than half of whom insisted on testing my thyroid function despite being able to see in my records that it had already been tested a dozen times but thanks I guess
"Just switch doctors and make demands "??? In this economy???
Learning to advocate for yourself at the doctor is one of the biggest hurdles of early chronic illness. Here are some things someone could practice saying (practice with family, friends, or other safe people who will play this out with you):
“my thyroid function was checked recently. That information should be accessible to you in my chart. If it isn’t, please let me know so that I can get you those results. In the meantime, what else might be causing my symptoms?”
“Ive explored that avenue with other physicians. what else might be causing my symptoms?”
“I’d like to test ____. Can you order that one?” [if they say no] “Please note in my records that I requested that test and you declined to order it. I’ll wait here while you do that.” [then, ask the nurse for an after-visit summary that includes the doctor’s notes to check that they did it]
When in doubt- bring a friend!! There’s no reason why doctors appointments have to be solitary, and a friend can help you remember stuff you wanted to say, remember stuff the doctor said back, be brave and advocate for yourself, and if necessary, advocate for you.
I’ve recently had to explain “I have been suffering from anxiety/panic attacks for more than 20 years, so I know what those feel like. This is new.”
It worked, though.
Write things down before and during. Bring notes on what you need to talk about. Take notes on what the doctor is telling you.
If you request your records they have 30 days to comply or it’s a HIPPA violation. They can charge up to 10 cents per page for printing cost.
It can also be difficult to self-advocate if you have mental health problems on record. I know I’ve had doctors who pointed to my diagnosed anxiety disorder to claim I was just a hypochondriac when I was so sick it was hard to WALK.
One thing that seriously helps:
If you are having physical problems misconstrued as mental illness and have a good therapist or psychiatrist, ask them to vouch for you in writing.
My psychiatrist writing me a note that said, “actually my professional opinion is that this person’s anxiety is well-controlled, please take that into account and FUCKING BELIEVE HER PLEASE”, and he was listened to more than I was.
If you can get other professionals on your side it really is helpful.
Is it deeply fucked up that some doctors won’t trust that you know your own body? Yes. But in the moment, trying to find other ways to get yourself heard can be a necessary sacrifice. Do that first and lodge any complaints later — ESPECIALLY if you think you’ve been discriminated against or dismissed base on race/age/gender because that happens a ton.
And ALWAYS keep a paper trail.
EDIT: Even if you’re not dealing with illness actually I’d love if people would rb to spread it. Self-advocacy is hard and working needlessly difficult systems to get vital help all alone can be a deeply demoralizing experience.

Libraries are free, mostly. Pretty much everything millennials are “killing” costs money.
Plus, unlike half the stuff we’re killing, libraries actually have a practical use
we out here
Not to be *that* millennial, but as a librarian I’d just like to say that the greatest thing you can do to support your local library is to understand how they are funded and to support their funding with your vote. Libraries can do a lot all on their own but quite often they cannot legally “toot their own horn” so-to-speak when it comes to advocating for sustaining or increasing funding, getting levies or bond issues passed, etc. Libraries need you to love them not just with your checkouts and attendance at programs.
We can do that too.
build libraries on dead golf courses.
We Are Dewey’s Army X3
Friendly reminder that many Libraries double function as free schools and other free resources, sometimes including otherwise inaccessible technology, like 3D printers.
The libraries in my city host ‘English as a Secondary Language’ classes, cooking classes, classes on how to use that 3D printer, local history classes, responsible naturalistic gardening classes, beekeeping classes, and all sorts of other fun topics. Plus the plethora of clubs that use the library conference rooms as their meeting place.
All for free.
Support and visit your local library. Ask about their services and classes. VOTE TO KEEP THEM FUNDED

“3 Defining Features of ADHD That Everyone Overlooks”
FINALLY, SOME GOOD QUALITY EXPLANATION OF WHY “I DONT LOOK LIKE I HAVE ADHD” BECAUSE ITS NOT REALLY CANT SIT STILL FOCUS NONE DISORDER ITS SOMETHING A WHOLE LOT MORE COMPLEX
Actually yeah. I just reblogged this silently without any acknowledgement of it, but this is hones to god one of the best explanations I’ve seen.
My 4 year old nephew loves to paint his nails. Any time he sees someone wear nail polish he asks if he can have some too. The most difficult part is getting him to decide what color, because he he wants all of them.
Nail polish is for everyone.
Update!!
The kid’s favorite football player responded with support.

THIS IS MY FIRST ROLL OF 2021 AND I’M SCREAMING
This is the good luck d20. Reblog to roll into the new year with +20 epic stats
overstimulation/sensory overload really is like sorry I can’t hear you over the sound of my shirt tag being itchy and these two strands of hair touching my face and the tv and one of my shoelaces being undone and air touching me and the plane flying overhead and my own thoughts about remembering to buy hummus
